Derek Stepan scored a goal for Arizona tonight, but no Assists.

Toronto - I felt very strongly Toronto would win the game, but at -245 ML it looked like a good discount to play the still heavily juiced -0.5 -155 regulation win option. So when they only scored one goal for a 1-0 lead heading into the 3rd period, it felt like Overtime was coming, which it did after Buffalo scored once about 7-minutes into the 3rd, then nothing more after the tie was achieved. Toronto captain John Tavares got the game-winner 1:45 into OT. Toronto had plenty of shots in the game by a margin of 43-30. It seems like they get anxious or something, not finishing on the scoring chances, which we've seen during a lot of the season, just not in the previous 3 games of the road trip prior to returning home tonight for this 2nd game of a home-and-home vs Buffalo. I'm sure books also got people's money who were expecting another Over in this game.

Another game I did not play, but wanted to make a quick comment about was Washington at Detroit. That was a "no-brainer" play the puckline at -1.5 +115 for Washington. The reason I didn't play it because Detroit has a history of playing them tight, and that was the case again tonight. If you only look at the final 5-2 score, you don't understand how tight that game was until very late. Washington is good at potting the empty-net goals, and did so twice tonight. Detroit was in that game for a possible upset most of the way. Looking ahead, I wonder if Detroit will be able to carry forward something positive from their effort.

Boston had their home points streak snapped at 17 games. They didn't show up for Saturday's 4-1 loss vs Colorado. Had only 7 shots halfway through the game. End of game box score shows Boston had more total shots 20-19, but they had 2 Power Plays in the 3rd period which skewed that final number, and didn't score after opening the game with a goal in the first period.

Overtime almost hit in Calgary, after the Kings scored 2 goals in the first period, they allowed 4 in a row by Calgary. Later made it 4-3 and almost tied it at the end of the game right after killing a penalty in the final 3 minutes of the game. Jack Campbell as the Kings goalie has not helped. Meantime, Cam Talbot got the start and only his second win of the season for Calgary.

Brief comment for tonight's pick. People are gonna look at this game and see Montreal on a back-to-back, possibly overvalued odds after winning 3 of their past 4 games (which I missed out on). My reason for the pick is situational.... rookie goalie Cayden Primeau gets his second start, lost his first start at home to Colorado, who the Habs were overmatched against, but they have a great opportunity tonight to get Primeau his first win against this inferior Ottawa team. Also, in this season series of divisional opponents, Ottawa already won game #1 in Montreal by 2-1 Overtime score back on Nov.20.... if Canadiens want to prove the better team, they need to win this one, as the remaining 2 meetings will be later in Ottawa.
