MS Excel - Capturing Current Win/Loss Streaks
I know this is probably not a complicated question but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me how to do one or all of the following in Excel:

    1. Calculate the win percentage over the last 15 days (w/out having to update the formula daily).

    2. Calculate Streaks; both wins and losses within a given month

    3. And any tips/tricks related to streaks and current win percentages to help evaluate and forecast future bets.

(all Wins and Losses are noted as "win" or "loss" in each cell, vertically in one column)

    Thanks.

Give an example of what you are looking for...I have stuff like this in my Excel database, but you're description isn't telling me what you want in this cell or that cell...

Example: Wins:Losses over the last 10 days ......just keep a running tally. Wins: 10 Losses: 4 and maybe another cell with the winning percentage % over that period.

Not looking for anything over complicated, short and simple works for me

I could figure that out easily daily but i want it to automatically update for the last 10 days (or whatever range of days i want)

Example: In the past 30 days a cell containing the longest winning streak or losing streak.

      Thank you

if you have the results in say a1 thru a10 for the past 10 days
you should be able to do =countif(a1:a10,"w")
or the same for loss and it should count the wins (or loses)
        in that column
if you need 20 or 30 days just change the range

          Is this for baseball?...

Well, if you want the last 10 days AND the last 30 days, then we're talking about 2 columns because we're looking at 2 different sets of specs...If you want Last 5, then another column, unless you just want one long column where you can just see the whole damn string, but again, I am not really sure exactly what you want without seeing something laid out in a spreadsheet...

I attached a small sample of a NBA database I have and you can see some L3, L5 & L10 columns (I took out all the formulas in this sample)...

Again, "a picture is worth a thousand words", so if you quick slap together something in a spreadsheet and say, "I want something like this", then people can look at your spreadsheet and know what you want...

Here are some tips/tricks regarding the above:
            1. Win percentage over the last 15 days is pretty meaningless and won't help you cap games
            2. Winning/losing streaks within a given month are pretty meaningless and won't help you cap games

I tend to agree..somewhat. It's a nice tool to refer to, but unless you have more info to incorporate these sets of data will be of limited help. Posters above mentioned possibilities for disecting imported data, but you may find exactly what you need at Fumble around his site and you can find data that can be sorted as you need.

FWIW, I use similar data, but only to attempt to denote teams that are performing above/below their season data sets.....but you need to consider the quality of competition during a given cycle also.

              Good luck on your action...

Appreciate the help guys. But I am not using this to find winning and losing streaks of teams, but cappers. I am trying to find winning and losing streaks with handicappers as it relates to baseball. As everyone knows these guys go on streaks one way or another and their are several that i follow and use in conjunction with my own data. And the last ten days or 5 days means a lot on how hot a certain capper is at that point in time. Thanks all for your input so far. sorry for not being more specific.

My point still applies -- looking at short-term streaks is not going to help you evaluate cappers. And your desire to identify "hot cappers" is unlikely to provide any useful information for your own betting.
