Do pro-friendly books ban steam players?
For instance, if I see some reverse line movement at Pinnacle and I instantly bet big at Bookmaker before they adjust will I be banned or have my limits cut? If they accept professional action I don't see why they would, but I'd like to hear from those of you with experience. Also, which books allow sharps to play without ever lowering their limits? Thank you. POINTS WILL BE AWARDED

^ 5Dimes is a recreational book though. They are open about the fact that they will lower your limits if you win or chase steam. I'm talking about books that accept pro action.

Every book except Pinnacle will take countermeasures for betting steam. Greek and Cris will cut your limits to $500. Rec books will do much worse.

Do those same books that cut you down to $500 if you bet steam allow you to continue to let you bet the max if you are a sharp that is beating them straight up?

If you beat them by originating (and aren't steaming the whole market) the pro books (including Greek and Cris) don't care. If you are beating up Greek on props, they might drop your prop limits.

Define it. If it's what I think you mean, reverse line movement is a deadly predictor of winning plays.

For me reverse line movement is when the public % is on one side of a game pretty strongly yet the line moves in the opposite direction due to smart $. Thank you Justin. 1 more thing though: what books accept professional action. IOW what books do you use. Thanks again.

i've yet to see any evidence that steam or reverse line movements is anything more than short term blips on the radar screen.

I probably will be able to answer that question fairly soon as I have started to bet steamers a few days ago as an experiment. So far I have beaten the closing line 41 out of 44 times. Avg value ~6%

For instance I got Cubs > 10 @ 1.87 2 hours before the game at a book that hadn't adjusted its line yet. 5dimes closing line was 1.617. (15% value vs no-vig line)

No need to experiment. If you can consistently do this you should quit your job.

This is surprising to me. Pretty much by definition, if you are betting steam you are following the market (playing the now true market price) at a book that has yet to move. It seems odd to me that Cris/Olympic would ever have an "off market" number since they compose such a large part of what I would consider the market price.

There are countless opportunities for that everyday.

Right now you can get Braves v Philies < 8 @ 1.87 / -115 (William Hill). Current 5dimes and market line is 1.709 / -141. There's only 30min between these two lines. But they will make all the difference.

i've researched thousands of games. early steam, late steam, opening steam closing steam--you name it.

1] You probably agree the closing line is efficient (ie. you can't just blindly bet unders or underdogs and make a profit).

2] Yet if the closing line is -105/-105 and you're able to get +110 on one side, you don't think you can make a profit? If you chase late steam it is pretty rare that you will end up with a number worse than the closer.

                                        Something's gotta give.

I am assuming you only used closing lines in your analysis, which is the wrong way to analyze steam chasing. You have to use the line you actually bet the game at, as mathy alluded to.

Matchbook is the only way to go imo....However you need to be quick. steam moves always seem to originate from matchbook, so good luck laying the same number as the wise guy.

Shouldn't the late steam be the one to watch out for more than any thing, where's there's no risk of someone just looking to get the right number?

If they accept professional action I don't see why they would, but I'd like to hear from those of you with experience. Also, which books allow sharps to play without ever lowering their limits? Thank you. POINTS WILL BE AWARDED

Pinnacle allegedly will not distinguish between players regarding limits. They say you can bet the published limit (often GBP30,000) as you wish. They will then probably move the line, and you can bet it again. A

Yes all books do not like steam chasers.

That's great. "A" books that have all your information giving threats. Sports betting looks better and better every day. What's next? Will they come to my house and tie me down until I say "Uncle"?
