Say you like a fav -10.5 at 1.95/-105. You can sell 3 points to -13.5 to get higher odds, 2.47/+147. What happens if you do this with 1000 favs?

Yeah that's the idea, easier to win at plus odds. The OP was about NBA where I think it's a good to sell points especially on double digit favs. If it's 50/50 whether a blowout happens, might as well take better odds instead of the standard spread.

Buying the hook may bail you out once in a while, long term buying the hook is a sucker bet.
Without going into the long and short of the mathematics, the reason being the reduced payouts makes it extremely difficult to grind out a profit long term.

That wouldn't work in OKC/DET game yesterday.

No. Look at the vig/juice. So you're buying 3 points to -170 but only selling back at +147. If you could sell back at +170, then yeah, might make sense in some situations. Or if you could buy 3 points at -147.

Q.If buying points is for suckers, is selling points easy money?

Not in my opinion. That's kind of like if driving too fast is bad, is driving too slow good?

In this game, I usually found that it's always all about the percentages and the math you are having to play into.

That is how I learned to see it.

Of course, those percentages have been and will always be there to deal with.

I think it is the gamblers job to see when there are mistakes or less risk than what should otherwise be the price.

Not perceived value which might include prejudice or a personnel feelings like your favorite team or something like that, but true value which includes logic and percentages.

                That's my take.
