Half point price on team totals
Trying to estimate value of half points on team totals. Can full game prices be used as a reasonable estimate? Are half points on team totals more valuable, like half versus full game prices?

Unfortunately, this would be pretty tough to solve out.

The correct way to do it would be to get tons of historical data on team totals, and figure out how much a half point would be based on how often they flipped a losing bet to a push or win. The challenge is getting this data.

Half points are certainly worth more on a team total, likely very significantly. On a team total half, absolutely even more. Hard to say exactly how much though.

KVB will eventually chime in, and give you a shortcut. See how much heritage or another book will charge you to purchase one. You can get a rough estimate from there.

Not something I intuitively thought of at first. My first step would have been the get all the data step. Because of this, I tend to avoid things like team totals or more exotic stuff. Probably costs me money in the long term, but helps me keep accounts at books.

          This is the correct answer.

Another way that is a little less good is to just look at first half totals. For basketball the value of a half-point on a team total is very close to the value of a half-point on a first half line. Same is true for football through the same numbers, ie moving on or off 24 is about the same on a first half line as it is a team total. Baseball is a little different because it's five innings to eight or nine. Hockey is a little different because of how common overtime is.
