Handicap lines vs ML

Hello All,

Just wondering why do bookies make the handicap line vs ML so different sometimes?

Just as an example they might have -2 as the handicap and make the ML 3 in one game then make the handicap -4 and the ML as 3 again.

I see it in every market regardless of the sport

Just seems weird to me

Shouldn't the handicap be based of the ML?

You should take into consideration Total of game. It matters.

What do you mean by ML 3? I think it's better if you give prices of ML.

You mean:

-2 is at -110, and ML is at -160?

-4 is at -110, and ML is at -150?

You right, what happens is that ML and Handicap are manually changed in the bookies systems ad sometimes the trader forgets to update one after moving the other. Other times is just to get money on one of the sides.

Basically, when a bookie has an Handicap and a total line he just uses a normal distribution with the spread as mean and on the sqrt of the totals as the standard deviation. From there you get your ML.
