Math problem with the "poster of the year" polls
If you're not familiar with the system I'm using for the contest, you can read about it here:

Sports betting and handicapping forum: discuss picks, odds, and predictions for upcoming games and results on latest bets.

There is a small glitch in my system. If you end up in a less popular group, that decreases your chances of advancing. There's nothing that can be done about this because the highest possible number for a poll is 21.

In order to combat this problem, I'm thinking of rather than having the 21 posters with the most number of votes move on, we should have the 21 posters with the highest % of votes in their group move on.

To illustrate this problem and the proposed solution, compare group B and group D. 42 people have voted in group B's poll while only 28 have voted in group D's poll. Under my proposal, Bread, who has 11 votes and 39.29% (11 out of the 28 people who have voted in the poll voted for Bread) would be higher ranked than rogue juror who has 14 votes and 33.33% (14/42). Check it out:

I think this is the only fair way to go. People shouldn't be punished just because they ended up in a less popular poll, that's just luck of the draw.

    What do you guys think?

The above idea is out, imho.

Now we're adding new groups. In these new groups it's quite possible that people may look at them and think that no one in the group deserves a vote. No offense to posters in groups E and F but it's possible that people will skip those polls entirely if they think no one deserves a vote. That will make the proposition in the original post highly unfair to those posters in the polls where there's lots of voting.

Perfect or imperfect, we've got to go with total votes as the criteria for moving on to the next round. All the polls will be open for exactly 5 days and I'll bump all of them everyday. That's the best we can do, imho.

    Any thoughts on this?

Yep. It's insane. I'm getting a little taste of how pico must feel with his contest, that's a lot harder than what I'm doing. Next year it won't require so much thought. Once the system is perfected, everything runs smoothly. It's a good thing I love stuff like this.

fearless, check with Willie Bee. I am wondering if they can't override 21 max. I seem to recall a poll in the past where he manipulated the numbers as a joke.

Since I've already marketed the "SBRFORUM final 21" everywhere, I think it's too late to change it now.

I will contact Willie if I do this next year. Thanks for your advice.
