Roscoe Parrish - WR, San Diego Chargers
The Oakland Raiders agreed to terms with free-agent WR Roscoe Parrish Monday, Aug. 27, according to a league source.
With Jacoby Ford nicked, Parish could move immediately into the role of primary return man for Oakland. He'll also contend to carve out a role in the Raiders' unsettled receiver rotation.
Sidney Rice - WR, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, Aug. 27, that WR Sidney Rice is ready for the regular season, and he is in great shape and the strongest he has been. "He's ready to go and that's a big deal to us," Carroll said.
Ryan Williams - RB, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals RBs Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams will each get a chance to play in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 30, against the Denver Broncos.
Ronnie Hillman - RB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman made his preseason debut Sunday, Aug. 26, against the San Francisco 49ers. He had missed the first two preseason games due to a hamstring injury. Hillman had a team-high 10 carries for 29 yards, and he added a catch for four yards.
Hillman looks to be the primary backup to Willis McGahee, who has quite a bit of wear on the tires. You'd like to see at least three yards a carry, but in the Broncos' Peyton Manning-led offense there's plenty of upside for whichever running back winds up with the touches.
Knowshon Moreno - RB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno saw his most extensive action of the preseason Sunday, Aug. 26, against the San Francisco 49ers as he works his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He had five carries for 16 yards and two catches for 28 yards.
moreno is fighting more for a roster spot than a role in the Broncos' running back rotation. At this juncture he's an insurance add for Willis McGahee in larger leagues only--and that's his upside.
Mike Kafka - QB, Philadelphia Eagles
Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Mike Kafka (hand) was able to take a few reps in practice Monday, Aug. 27. It was his first time on the field since suffering a fractured left hand Aug. 9. He did not indicate whether or not he will see playing time in the team's preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 30. Head coach Andy Reid said he will decide after practice Wednesday, Aug. 29, whether or not Kafka will participate in the game.
Justin Medlock - PK, Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are reportedly 'sold' on PK Justin Medlock after releasing veteran PK Olindo Mare. He is expected to be the team's starting kicker heading into Week 1.
Kevin Smith - RB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith (ankle) did not practice Monday, Aug. 27, due to an ankle sprain suffered in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25.
Smith was forced to leave Saturday's game early but is expected to be good to go for Week 1 of the regular season a week from Sunday. Even though second-year back Mikel Leshoure saw his first NFL action Saturday after missing all of 2011 with a ruptured Achillies', he is suspended for the first two games of the season, meaning the Lions have all their chips in on Smith with Jahvid Best opening the season on the PUP list.
Ed Dickson - TE, Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said tight ends Ed Dickson and Dennis Pitta will miss the team's final preseason game.
Dickson has two catches this preseason for 15 yards, while Pitta has yet to play after getting a cast taken off a broken hand last week. Dickson is the better fantasy option for the time being, but neither are likely to give you the week-in, week-out production you need.
Jonathan Dwyer - RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley said he liked how RB Jonathan Dwyer played in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25, especially the 33-yard pass he caught on a third down. 'That was a big time play, now,' Haley said. 'He didn't get as many opportunities running as in other weeks, but that was a big-time play when we needed it. Because that's the game, really. If that was a real game and you convert coming out of there and going 98 yards and they're burning their timeouts? That was a big play when you needed it most. Anytime you have a guy who does that, that's a real good sign
Dwyer is the Steelers' second-leading rusher this preseason with 84 yards on 15 carries (5.6 avg.). He's also shown some skills as a receiver with 4 grabs for 46 yards. With Rashard Mendenhall still on the mend from last season's ACL tear, Dwyer is the Steelers back you want early in the season if you missed out on No. 2 man Isaac Redman.
Jake Long - OT, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins believe OT Jake Long (knee) sprained his medial collateral ligament in practice Monday, Aug. 27, and he'll undergo an MRI exam.
The Dolphins desperately are hoping it's nothing more than a sprain. Otherwise, it's a recipe for disaster with one of the game's top left tackles unavailable to protect the blindside of a rookie QB in Ryan Tannehill.
Maurice Jones-Drew - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said he expects RB Rashard Jennings to be the starting running back in Week 1 but still has not ruled out the possibility of RB Maurice Jones-Drew starting the game.
It's crunch time for MJD. Even if he reports now he is unlikely to be up to speed to start in week one. Jennings has performed admirably in Drew's absence so the Jags will not hesitate to hold MJD back if they feel it is in their best interest. That's assuming he actually shows up at some point.
Danario Alexander - WR, St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams have waived injured WR Danario Alexander (hamstring).
The talented Mr. Alexander fought valiantly through injuries and multiple surgeries to make it in the NFL, and the Rams have been very patient, but have now apparently decided to give that roster spot to a more realistic project.
Mike Wallace - WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace is expected to report to the team Tuesday, Aug. 28.
Hakeem Nicks - WR, New York Giants
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) is expecting to get snaps in the team's final preseason game Wednesday, Aug. 29. Nicks said he is absolutely ready for the regular season to begin. 'Definitely,' Nicks said, adding with a grin: 'If the season was last week, I could play.'
Austin Collie - WR, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said WR Austin Collie (concussion) should be able to play Week 1 after suffering a concussion earlier in the preseason.
