I think Paddack loses today and the Padres lose their first game of 2021.

#916Prior to today’s game, the Dodgers placed righty Tony Gonsolin on the 10-day injured list due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. The placement was retroactive to April 1. Right-hander Dennis Santana was called up from the alternate training site to take Gonsolin’s spot on the active roster.
Manager Dave Roberts told reporters (including Jorge Castillo of the L.A. Times) that Gonsolin has been dealing with the shoulder problem “the last few days,” which explains why Gonsolin has yet to make his 2021 debut. Gonsolin had been ticketed for a multi-inning bullpen role to begin the season, though given the Dodgers’ penchant for managing pitchers and the right-hander’s own track record over his short MLB career, Gonsolin is likely in line to receive some proper starts as the year goes along.
Gonsolin has a 2.60 ERA/4.11 SIERA over 86 2/3 innings as a big leaguer, starting 14 of his 20 career games over the 2019-20 seasons. He also started both Game 2 and Game 6 of the World Series last fall, though both of his outings were essentially bullpen games as the Dodgers mixed and matched pitchers throughout the Fall Classic. With generally above-average career metrics, the 26-year-old Gonsolin would likely be seen as promising rotation building block on a team that wasn’t so deep in pitching, and it’s possible the Dodgers might still use him in a more traditional starter role down the road.Comment -

#927Even though it was a nice win for the Giants on the road against the Padres it is bittersweet because you never want to see a guy like Fernando Tatis go down. Hopefully he's ok but its a bit of a concern when a guy like that has to leave the ballgame.Comment -

#928Padres superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. departed their game Monday against the Giants with an apparent left elbow injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com was among those to report. Tatis struck out in an at-bat against Giants right-hander Anthony DeSclafani and then went down “crumpled in a heap,” per Cassavell. Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area provided video on Twitter.
A serious injury to Tatis would not only be a massive loss for the Padres, who have World Series hopes this year, but the game of baseball as a whole. The 22-year-old was one of the most ballyhooed prospects in the sport before he reached the majors, and he has more than lived up to that status so far in the bigs. Dating back to his 2019 debut, Tatis has slashed .298/.372/.577 (148 wRC+) with 40 home runs, 27 stolen bases and 6.5 fWAR in just 147 games and 648 plate appearances. He’s among the main reasons the Padres look like an elite team on paper, not to mention one of baseball’s greatest talents.
Tatis has been so productive during his short career that the Padres signed him to a jaw-dropping 14-year, $340MM extension near the end of February. The Padres obviously did so with confidence that Tatis would stay healthy, but now they may be dealing with a disastrous scenario just a few games into his contract.Comment -

#929ANAHEIM, Calif. -- An exhilarating start to a historic night ended in a scare for Los Angeles Angels two-way player Shohei Ohtani, who exited his outing after taking a Jose Abreu cleat to his left ankle in the fifth inning of a 7-4 walk-off victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
The Angels said Ohtani wasn't removed from his outing because of injury -- he had already thrown 92 pitches and had navigated a very taxing half-inning -- and that he was merely sore. Ohtani said his leg felt "fine" after the game, adding that the collision "wasn't as bad as it looked." He will be reevaluated on Monday, according to the team.
Angels manager Joe Maddon said Ohtani won't be in the starting lineup Monday against the visiting Houston Astros, but it doesn't sound as if the scare will preclude Maddon from continuing to use Ohtani aggressively.
Ohtani -- hitting on the same day of his start for the first time in his major league career -- was left in to face Yoan Moncada with the bases loaded, two outs and his command seemingly wavering. Ohtani struck out Moncada with the seventh pitch of the at-bat, but Angels catcher Max Stassi failed to corral a splitter, ultimately prompting Ohtani to cover home, where he got clipped by Abreu as he slid in to tie the game. Ohtani limped off the field, paving the way for Steve Cishek to finish the top of the fifth.

AL MVP or end of the two-way experiment? Debating Shohei Ohtani's 2021 potential
Asked about keeping Ohtani in the game to that point given that the White Sox were threatening and it was the third time through the order, Maddon said: "Did you see the stuff he had?"
"He had great stuff," Maddon added. "I don't believe in the third-time-through stuff. It depends on what the pitcher has. I don't think any of those hitters had good swings at him. Did they hit any balls hard? He did walk a couple guys, there's no question, but his stuff was still premium.
"He had great stuff, and that's the part of a player's situation that he can really, mentally, become something even more special than he is by fighting through that moment. So, I totally disagree with that evaluation. That was his spot. He had great stuff, I had a lot of confidence in him, and the ball that gets past the catcher is strike three, which would have been an entirely different outcome."
Instead, it was a sour end to a thrilling night for Ohtani, who began it by throwing a baseball 101 mph in the top of the first inning and hitting a baseball 115 mph in the bottom of the first. Ohtani's 100.6 mph pitch to Adam Eaton, which helped set up his first strikeout, was the fastest-thrown pitch by any starting pitcher this season. And Ohtani's home run, which carried an exit velocity of 115.2 mph, was the hardest-hit homer of the season by any player.
Ohtani, 26, finished 1-for-3 at the plate, including a lineout to center and a hard groundout up the middle. On the mound, he was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits, five walks and seven strikeouts in 4⅔ innings. He threw eight pitches at least 100 mph, one more than he had accumulated in 12 prior major league starts.
Ohtani became the first starting pitcher to bat second in a game since Jack Dunleavy in 1903, and it sounds as if that will be the norm this season.
Maddon believes juggling both disciplines brings out more of Ohtani's personality.
"I think you're seeing him for the first time," Maddon said. "I'm absolutely seeing Shohei as he is, as he functions as a human. There's no barriers.
"He wanted to stay in for one more guy after he fell to the ground, and I said, 'No, that's about right there, brother.' I think he was at early 90 number of pitches, which was right about our threshold. Man, that's how a guy becomes a guy. You gotta give him that opportunity."Comment -

#932Man that Twins line up is lethal.
15 runs yesterday on 14 hits.
And they have some pitching .
Speaking of pitching (I am the king of perfect segues after all) how about the Duff Man yesterday.
Danny Duffy 6 IP 2H 5 K 6 complete shutout innings and Whit homers (again) goes 2 for 3 (again) with 3 RBI (again)
Whit now has 9 RBI through 3 games, when you consider he hits leadoff....
KC 3 Cle 0
You guys are going to be sick of hearing about Whit from me come weeks end.
I know it.
Bad news for us KC fans.
We face Bieber tonight.
Matheny is a great manager, I want to see him instruct the line up tonight to 'work' Bieber.
Have the hitters be patient. Get that pitch count up.
Twins look like the team to beat early in the AL Central though.Comment -

#941Padres SS Fernando Tatis Jr. fell to the ground and clutched his arm after a big swing-and-miss on Monday night and he left the game. San Diego has since confirmed that Tatis suffered a left shoulder subluxation and he will be re-evaluated tomorrow. A subluxation is an official term for a dislocation. Tatis has dealt with his shoulder popping out at times in the past, and the broadcast booth for tonight's game mentioned him dealing with a shoulder injury in the spring, but this one looked particularly painful. That's all the speculation we'll be doing -- we'll wait for the official word on his status -- but a trip to the IL seems likely.Comment -

#943Padres pitching will keep them in games until Tatis gets back. Lucky for him and the Padres he doesn't require surgery but it still sucks that he wound up on the IL. That Padres lineup is still scary and their pitching is just filthy which is a recipe for winning baseball games even without your star shortstop.Comment -
