EN - WR Eric Decker Agrees To Terms With Titans

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Eric Decker and the Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, a source informed told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love this news for QB Marcus Mariota. This could be trouble for TE Delanie Walker though as there's only one football to go around. But we'll be watching this summer to see how this offense shakes out but overall we love this move for Tennessee.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi rounding out his game

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi looks much smoother running routes and finishing receptions than he did last year, as catching the ball out of the backfield became a major focus during his offseason training.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a constant drumbeat we've heard in the offseason. Ajayi could be used more in the passing game, and that improves his already high fantasy value. We could see him going over 1,200 yards rushing again with 35 or so receptions (he had 27 catches last year). Ajayi is currently going off the board at RB7 (2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TEN - RB Derrick Henry showing more speed

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry looks faster this offseason, according to head coach Mike Mularkey, and Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com said Henry has looked more comfortable catching the ball.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry is just waiting in the wings behind starter Demarco Murray. When Henry gets his chance, he should be able to thrive in the Titans system. As it stands right now, Henry is an expensive (but worth it) handcuff you can get around RB25 in your fantasy draft.

CLE - Expectations high for RB Duke Johnson

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson is one of the 'better playmakers' for the offense and 'big things' are expected from him this season, according to running backs coach Kirby Wilson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's great and all, but they've been high for Johnson before and he's not played up to his potential. With Isaiah Crowell being used more in the passing game (40 catches last year), it limits the value for Johnson.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell just entering his prime

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell has only 'scratched the surface' of his potential, according to running backs coach Kirby Wilson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The quarterback situation in Cleveland clouds what could be a RB1 in Crowell. This could be the first 1,000 yard season of his career, and Crowell could easily snag 40 or more catches in 2017. Scoop up Crowell at RB14 (3.05) in 12-team PPR leagues while you can.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz finishes minicamp strong

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz 'appeared to hit his stride' during the team's three-day minicamp, throwing crisper and more accurate passes than he did at the beginning.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is working to avoid any sophomore slump. The Eagles did a lot of work this offseason to put better pass-catching talent around him. New WRs Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith should help Wentz avoid any slump and put up better numbers than he did last season during his rookie year. Wentz is a QB2 for fantasy owners this year and is going off the board at QB18 (12.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - RB Alex Collins in great shape

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Alex Collins has focused on his conditioning and it is showing on the field, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'He is in phenomenal shape,' Carroll said. 'He showed it. He's just clicking out here for us in every drill that we've done throughout every single day that we've been out here.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on Collins here in dynasty leagues. We loved his instincts and running style in college at Arkansas, and he's just got to wait his turn with the Seahawks. He's fourth on the RB depth chart right now, but Collins has the potential to thrive in a featured role.

TEN - Corey Davis playing physical

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis' strength has stood out during drills, according to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com, and Wyatt said Davis has been able to make contested catches in traffic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what Davis does best. He is a tough receiver who isn't afraid of contact and can rip away contested passes from defenders. That's why he should become a favorite target of QB Marcus Mariota. He's a WR3 with upside for fantasy owners in 2017.

DAL - Dallas continues endorsing QB Kellen Moore

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys QB Kellen Moore's understanding of the offense and ability to move the chains were on display at times during last week's three-day minicamp, and his accuracy continues to be a strong point as well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kellen Moore is the likely backup to Dak Prescott in 2017. He's facing competition from guys like rookie Cooper Rush and recently added free agent Zac Dysert. Moore is likely the winner of the competition, but the Dallas offense would not be as exciting if he was forced into the lineup due to an injury to Prescott. We don't see dynasty value in Moore, and there are several other backups we'd rather stash in that format.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph improving as a blocker

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Sid Hartman

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph is doing a better job as a blocker, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's going to help the offense, but you don't get fantasy points for blocking. Rudolph should continue as a check down favorite of QB Sam Bradford, and that elevates his fantasy value. Last year, Rudolph was quietly the no3 tight end in fantasy football with a final stat line of 83 catches, 840 yards and seven touchdowns. Projecting him for 75 or more catches is reasonable, and that keeps his value in the TE1 range. You can get him at TE9 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues currently.

DET - RB Zach Zenner's versatility praised

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Mike O'Hara

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner is still progressing and improving, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. 'He can run the ball,' Caldwell said. 'He can pass protect. He can catch the ball out of the backfield.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zenner is a jack of all trades and that versatility will get him on the field in certain situations. The Lions have a cluttered backfield, so Zenner's fantasy value is limited. Ameer Abdullah should be the lead back provided he can stay healthy. Theo Riddick should continue as the team's primary pass-catching back. That leaves little for Zenner outside of perhaps some short-yardage or goal-line work.

WAS - WR Ryan Grant 'our most consistent guy'

    Source: CSNWashington.com - JP Finlay
Washington Redskins WR Ryan Grant is 'our most consistent guy, without a doubt, as far as being able to line up everywhere, run the routes exactly how we want them at the right depth coming out of them,' head coach Jay Gruden told reporters during minicamp.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another day and another report praising Grant. Earlier this month, Washington coach Jay Gruden said Grant can line up 'all over the place' and is 'going to play' this season. Grant is fourth on the WR depth chart (at best) in Washington and fifth or sixth in the pecking order for targets when you include TE Jordan Reed and RB Chris Thompson. These reports are interesting for dynasty owners, but the path is cluttered in front of Grant if he wants to produce in 2017.

    Tuesday Update

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater could be cleared this year

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) could receive clearance to return at some point this season, in the opinion of beat writer Matt Vensel. Bridgewater has surfaced in videos throwing 40-yard passes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's cool, and we're rooting for Bridgewater to get back onto the field someday. However, he may not be ready for the start of the regular season and when he comes back it could be as the backup to Sam Bradford. With no fifth-year option picked up, it will be interesting to see where Bridgewater is playing in 2018. At this point as we look towards this season, things are far from decided. We see this as Bridgewater "could" serve as the backup this year but there's plenty to be decided as the summer and season progress.

NYJ - QB Josh McCown losing grip on starting gig?

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets QB Christian Hackenberg made some strides during minicamp, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post, and Costello believes Hackenberg could beat out QB Josh McCown to be the Week 1 starter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sounds like Hackenberg is hitting fewer reporters on the sidelines during Jets mandatory minicamp. The Jets are tanking and the best way to get into a top pick in next year's draft is to start Hackenberg. Sam Darnold (USC) or Josh Allen (Wyoming) should get used to the idea of playing for the Jets.

MIA - TE Julius Thomas struggling

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins TE Julius Thomas has been a non-factor in practices and appears to have chemistry issues with QB Ryan Tannehill, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They've got time to work things out, so don't panic with this story. Keep a mental note of it, but watch to see if Thomas shows better chemistry during training camp. The offense is familiar to him as he played under head coach Adam Gase during their time together in Denver. Thomas is a TE2 with upside for fantasy owners.

LAC - WR Travis Benjamin as fast as ever

    Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

Los Angeles Chargers WR Travis Benjamin's vertical speed is a 'game changer' for the offense, according to head coach Anthony Lynn, and Lynn said he wants Benjamin to return punts this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin has the speed to take the top off the defense. If healthy, he can be a favorite deep target for QB Philip Rivers. Benjamin partially tore his PCL in 2016 and played through the injury. In January, he had surgery to repair the injury. Fantasy owners should watch to see if Benjamin can produce in a cramped WR corps with the Chargers. As the no4 WR on the depth chart, Benjamin is unlikely to be much of a fantasy factor in 2017.

LAR - WR Mike Thomas has found his niche

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams WR Mike Thomas has 'found a role for himself,' according to QB Jared Goff. 'He's one of our faster receivers and can stretch the defense,' Goff said. 'I think he enjoys that role and understands that he's going to be an over-the-top guy.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sixth-round pick out of Southern Miss in 2016, Thomas spent most of his rookie season playing on special teams. Thomas is a grinder with the speed to take the top off the defense. He's buried on the Rams depth chart but we're monitoring his progress in super deep dynasty leagues.

DET - WR Marvin Jones improving this offseason

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones focused on strengthening his lower body to improve his explosiveness this offseason. He worked out with former NFL WR Randy Moss to help him in that endeavor and to improve his yards after the catch. Head coach Jim Caldwell praised Jones for the offseason he has put together so far. 'This guy is right there on the verge of maintaining that kind of explosive start that he had last year,' Caldwell said. 'He's really, really had a real good spring.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones can only benefit from working out with Moss. Last year, Jones started off his time with the Lions at an incredible rate and he led the NFL with 482 receiving yards after four weeks. It all fell apart after that due to nagging injuries and inconsistencies as Jones managed just 448 yards the rest of the season. Jones has a current ADP of WR48 (10.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

LAR - TE Tyler Higbee favored to start?

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee appears to have a leg up on rookie TE Gerald Everett for the starting tight end position, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky last year, Higbee has an athletic profile at 6'6" 249 pounds. He didn't do much as a rookie in 2016, but Higbee should be considered the frontrunner for the starting job entering training camp. Everett is a talented move tight end in his own right, but rookie tight ends are usually slow to progress at the pro level.

LAR - QB Jared Goff grasping the offense

    Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff said he has understood and grasped all of head coach Sean McVay's so far this offseason. Goff said he has learned the offense much quicker this year than he did his rookie season. McVay said he has implemented about 95% of his offense so far.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Goff was pretty bad as a rookie last year, but this new offense should be more capable of getting the best out of the second-year pro. He's a work in progress as a passer, but Goff should be better this year. Goff is a QB3 for fantasy owners in redraft leagues and this new offense greatly benefits his dynasty potential.

CAR - WR Russell Shepard shines

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers WR Russell Shepard consistently got open from the slot this spring and caught everything thrown his way, according to beat writer Joseph Person.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shepard is a bit of the forgotten man in the Panthers offense. He'll compete with rookie sensation WR Curtis Samuel for the no3 WR job in Carolina behind Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin back in shape

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin appears to have worked himself back in shape, in the opinion of beat writer Joseph Person. Head coach Ron Rivera said that Benjamin didn't weigh the reported 280 pounds in April, but he might have been 270 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pictures surfaced earlier this offseason where Benjamin looked like he could play in Big Momma's House 4. It's a good sign that Benjamin has worked himself into better shape. He has the ability to gash defenses and his size makes him a great target in the red zone. Benjamin has a current ADP of WR29 (6.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - Dalvin Cook flashes speed

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook flashed his speed in minicamp last week and is a fast, long strider in the open field.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Cook is an explosive back who reminded some in the scouting community of former Colts great Edgerrin James. We'll see Cook compete with veteran Latavius Murray for the starting job. Expect him to get playing time -- and perhaps win the main job -- due to his natural playmaking skill set.

BAL - RB Danny Woodhead active in practice

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Danny Woodhead was a popular target in the passing game during minicamp last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Here is a drumbeat fantasy owners need to be listening for. There are 86 receptions missing from this offense with Dennis Pitta released. Those targets/catches aren't necessarily going to whatever tight end wins the starting job. Woodhead could certainly be in for some of those targets along with WR Jeremy Maclin. We think projecting Woodhead for 50-ish catches in 2017 sounds reasonable.

BAL - WR Chris Moore the fourth receiver

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Chris Moore will be the team's fourth receiver on the depth chart, according to owner Steve Bisciotti.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds about right. A fourth-round pick out of Cincinnati in 2016, Moore brings a lot of speed to the field. He can track passes over his shoulder consistently and goes all out to make the catch. Moore is a one-trick, vertical receiver who we are monitoring in deep dynasty leagues.

HOU - WR Braxton Miller, WR Will Fuller improving

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller and WR Will Fuller have made big jumps in their second seasons, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Miller is still learning the position as he converted from quarterback late in his career at Ohio State. The second-year pro has outstanding athleticism and can be dangerous after the catch. Fuller is a speed guy who needs better concentration. Both are dangerous weapons who make for interesting 'lottery ticket' picks late in your fantasy draft.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise a matchup problem

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia
Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise runs routes like a receiver, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com, and Kapadia called Prosise 'the biggest mismatch player' on Seattle's offense.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Prosise is a converted wide receiver from his college days at Notre Dame. He runs routes like a receiver, but he looks like a running back when running after the catch. Prosise will mix in as a change-of-pace back behind starter Eddie Lacy.

      Wednesday Update

TEN - WR Eric Decker contract details

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Tennessee Titans WR Eric Decker's one-year deal is worth up to $5.35 million, according to a source. The deal comes with a $2.5 million signing bonus, a $1.35 million salary and up to $1.50 million in incentives.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker could be a very interesting addition to this offense and might be a good fit as the No. 2 there. Two things will impact that. First is the health of Marcus Mariota, which looks good. Second will be how quickly rookie Corey Davis starts drawing coverage. When he's the focal point of a secondary, Decker can struggle. When he has a legit number one across from him, though, he can be very productive. Right now, Decker is trending with an overall ADP of 102 and is the 39th receiver off the board. We suspect that will get more expensive as summer goes by and the market adjusts to his new situation.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell extension iffy before deadline?

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell has a 50% chance of agreeing to a long-term extension before the July 17 deadline, in the opinion of Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. La Canfora cites Bell's history of injuries and suspensions as logical reasons to take a year-by-year approach with Bell. Plus, Bell counts $12 million against the Steelers' salary cap.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's going to happen. The Steelers don't want him to walk, because he will last half a minute on the market. Yes, there is danger because of those suspensions and injuries but you can only string him along for so long before he takes his talents elsewhere, unless you just tag him every season, which gets cost-prohibitive. We expect Bell to be both healthy and not suspended, making him a shoe-in for one of the top running back spots in fantasy again this season.

CLE - DeShone Kizer closing the gap

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer has narrowed the gap between him and QB Cody Kessler for the starting job. Kizer essentially split the first-team repetitions with Kessler during minicamp. The two are expected to battle for the starting job in training camp.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The rookie from Notre Dame is picking things up quickly. The Browns don't do everything right, but we love how they've emphasized building from the offensive line out. That O-Line is going to make things better for the quarterback -- no matter who the starter is. Kizer is seen as the QB of the future, and he should get on the field as the starter even if he begins the 2017 season as a backup behind Kessler.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor impresses

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor has impressed head coach Sean McDermott. 'I've really been impressed with the leadership,' McDermott said. '(He displayed) the intangible qualities that are inherent or must be inherent to that quarterback position. I've watched him develop in those areas and that's important as we look to move forward. There's leadership qualities at that quarterback position that are important to winning football games, and I think he's done a nice job in that area.'

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor needed to grow into his role as a leader with the Bills and it sounds like that's what he did. He's a playmaking quarterback who throws a beautiful deep pass, but Taylor needs to play with better consistency and accuracy. Taylor is the Bills starter for the 2017 season, but there is some question as to whether or not he's a long-term answer for the franchise.

DAL - RB Alfred Morris still likely to go

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris is still likely to be moved or cut before the 53-man roster is finalized, in the opinion of beat writer Jon Machota.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Morris doesn't play special teams and that could cost him his roster spot. The Cowboys could use Darren McFadden as the primary backup behind Ezekiel Elliott. Morris may not be what he used to be, but there would be more than a few teams interested in his services if he hit the open market.

PIT - Ben Roethlisberger praises WR Martavis Bryant

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Brian Batko

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said WR Martavis Bryant 'looks like a stud, as usual' when asked how the returning wide-out is fitting back in with the team.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like Bryant is back to dominating on the football field. He should be able to carry that momentum from minicamp over to training camp and from training camp to the preseason. Once we see him back in game action, we'll feel better about Bryant's potential. In this high-powered passing attack, Bryant has a chance to outperform his current ADP of WR27 (5.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

KC - Andy Reid confident in offense

      Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs WR Chris Conley is just one piece of a young offensive group that has given head coach Andy Reid confidence despite the loss of Baltimore Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin. 'We have a lot of talent right here to do whatever we need to do,' Reid said. Conley himself is ready to take on a leadership role. 'You have to be a good listener [in order to lead], and I got a lot of time being able to watch and listen, and I think that's the way you help these younger guys is you just pay attention,' Conley said.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin had a poor 2016, so how much his departure really matters for this group is debatable. That said, getting the run game back on track and a third option to Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill is critical. We don't expect Conley to be more than the fourth or fifth option in the passing offense, and Fantasy GMs seem to feel the same as his ADP is a very deep 271 overall.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman could have contract soon

Source: ESPN.com - Dianna Marie Russini

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman's possible long-term contract could be done by the first week of training camp, according to a source. Freeman is entering the final year of his current contract.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All reports have been positive about the two sides getting a deal done. While Freeman may want 'elite' RB money, he's unlikely to set the market at the position. We're expecting a new long-term contract for Freeman before the start of training camp.

NYJ - Gang Green adds WR Marquess Wilson

      Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Free-agent WR Marquess Wilson (Bears) signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Jets on Tuesday, June 20.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is a speed merchant on the field but has struggled with staying healthy. A foot injury limited him to just three games with the Bears in 2016. The Jets need competition at the WR position and we'll see if Wilson can latch on as a reserve receiver for 2017.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford long-term deal coming?

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has one year left on the extension he signed in 2013, and Lions general manager Bob Quinn told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio over the weekend he's "confident" a deal will get done.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford is entering the final year of his contract, and the Lions should work diligently to get this deal done. He's in line to be one of the highest paid players at his position. Earlier reports have speculated the Lions are waiting for the Raiders to get Derek Carr a new deal before rewarding Stafford.

WAS - Odds strong QB Kirk Cousins re-signs?

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins has 'become a leader and a fixture at a position of perpetual angst for (team owner Dan) Snyder,' according to CBS sports Jason La Confora, who believes there is now an 80 percent chance Cousins signs a long-term deal with the Redskins.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things change quickly around the NFL. Cousins didn't seem to be in the long-term plans for Washington after back-to-back franchise tags (2016, 2017). The team could get a new deal done that gives Cousins the security every player is looking for. If Cousins were to hit the open market, we'd expect a team like the 49ers to break the bank to get him.

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will not negotiate with the Dolphins regarding a contract extension after the start of the season, according to his agent, who added the receiver will not hold out training camp if the deal is not reached in the next few weeks.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As a second-round pick in 2014, Landry had no fifth-year option for the Dolphins to exercise. He's one of the most productive receivers in the league and can continue to be a key component of the Dolphins passing game. However, the two sides have not talked money and there seems to be a slight bit of hesitation from the team's side of things.

NFL - WR Anquan Boldin waiting to sign before camp

      Source: ArizonaSports.com

Free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (Lions) said that his preference is to sign with a team 'right before training camp.'

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Boldin proved last year with the Lions that he still had something left in the tank. He's looking for the 'right situation' and previous reports had indicated Boldin wants to stay near his Florida home. The veteran receiver will still be playing somewhere in 2017.

        Thursday Update

OAK - QB Derek Carr close to extension

        Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is close to agreeing on a contract extension that is expected to pay him around $25 million per season, according to sources. The deal could be announced as early as the end of this week.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carr is entering the final year of his contract, and the Raiders should get something done to lock him up before the start of training camp. That's been the expectation, and that's the track the two sides seem to be on. The top number for QBs is Andrew Luck ($24.6 million) and Carr should top that. Once he does, expect the contracts for Matthew Stafford and Kirk Cousins to fall in line next.

HOU - Houston wants to keep RB Lamar Miller fresh

        Source: ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller received 268 carries in 2016 but likely will see a drop in his carries this season so the team could keep him fresher later in the season. Running backs coach Charles London said the team has a diverse group of running backs, which will allow the team to balance Miller's workload.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the addition of rookie D'Onta Foreman, we could see a smaller amount of carries for Miller as the team tries to manage his touches. He can be just as effective on fewer touches if used the right way. Miller is more comfortable in this offense, and the team has better weapons around him. Fantasy owners should consider Miller a RB2 with RB1 upside.

LAR - RB Todd Gurley, o-line on same page this spring

        Source: ESPN.com - Alden Gonzalez

Los Angeles Rams OL Rodger Saffold told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez he saw improvement in the communication with RB Todd Gurley during the offseason program.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for Gurley and his fantasy owners. Under new head coach Sean McVay, Gurley could get back to the 1,000-yard mark that he surpassed in his rookie season. He's going off the board at RB12 (2.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen could hold out

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen doesn't rule out holding out of training camp for a new contract.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Olsen has a cap hit this year of $10.35 million with $6.6 million in dead money per Spotrac.com. He's under contract the next two years at a base salary of $6.5 million, and Olsen ranks 12th among tight ends in guaranteed money. One of the best tight ends in the league at age 32, Olsen believes he can play another five years in the pros. Olsen attended minicamp, and there have been no previous signs that he would hold out for training camp.

BAL - WR Jeremy Maclin had a torn groin

        Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Baltimore Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin (groin) said that he played through a torn groin muscle last season.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Something didn't seem right last year with Maclin after his Week 9 groin tear that caused him to miss four games. His groin tear didn't require surgery and Maclin is said to be at full strength now. The Ravens were wise to pick him up as they already have dynamic deep-threat receivers like Mike Wallace and Breshad Perriman. Maclin can be that go-to guy on underneath routes and should become a favorite of QB Joe Flacco.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles struggles with turnovers

        Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has committed 63 turnovers over the last three seasons, which is the most in the NFL. His 51 interceptions during that span ranks second among quarterbacks.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In other news, water is wet. Bortles is known to get careless with the football and his turnover numbers have always been high. If he wants to play up to his potential then Bortles will have to cut down on the turnovers. We should see the Jaguars use more balanced attack (featuring rookie RB Leonard Fournette) to keep things simple for Bortles. With over 600 passing attempts last year, Bortles may have 100 fewer attempts in 2017.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry getting it done in the slot

        Source: Pro Football Focus

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry has secured 199 catches out of the slot over the last three seasons, more than any other receiver in the NFL over that time.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Landry is going to get a ton of catches in 2017 ...just like he does every year and mostly out of the slot. He's unlikely to be used much in the red zone, and that limits his fantasy value. In 12-team PPR leagues, Landry is going off the board at WR19 (4.02).

SEA - QB Austin Davis contract update

        Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Updating a previous report, Seattle Seahawks QB Austin Davis signed a one-year deal worth $855,000. The deal includes a $50,000 signing bonus, and Davis would receive a $30,000 bonus if he is on the roster at the start of the regular season.
        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

          Friday Update

SEA - Equal share of carries between RB Eddie Lacy and RB Thomas Rawls?

Source: Bob Condotta - Seattle Times

Bob Condotta, from the Seattle Times, speculates that the Seattle Seahawks could give Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls a fairly equal share of the basedown carries in 2017. Health and productivity (plus he brings up the dreaded 'hot hand' approach) should be the primary factors in how carries are split between the two.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If Lacy is healthy and not overweight, we think he'll get the bulk of the carries. However, Rawls is a player who could see some snaps if Lacy falters. There is absolutely cause for concern with these players. And let's not forget C.J. Prosise could take a lot of third-down snaps.

NYG - Does QB Eli Manning have plenty of gas in tank?

          Source: NJ.com - Dan Duggan

New York Giants QB Eli Manning still has many years to play in the NFL, in the opinion of owner John Mara.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It would be fascinating to know what GM Jerry Reese and coach Ben McAdoo think about the 'gas gauge' for Manning. Some of the moves they have made this offseason seem more bent on capitalizing on winning now, with an eye beyond Manning. Certainly the addition of rookie QB Davis Webb has given people the impression the Giants are thinking of a few years down the line. Short term, the Giants added WR Brandon Marshall and rookie TE Evan Engram, both weapons which will help Manning immensely. Early drafts seem undecided on Manning's real value, and his ADP is at 108 overall -- the No. 16 quarterback coming off the board.

OAK - QB Derek Carr fully guaranteed $40 million

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating earlier reports, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is fully guaranteed $40 million and has more than $70 million in total guarantees. He's under contract through 2022.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, we all know the chances of reaching that 2022 finish line are scant, as teams and players tend to renegotiate before the end of a contract. Hence the large amount of guaranteed dollars. Carr continues to improve his game and if he is back 100% healthy as we expect, you can bet he'll be a great option for Fantasy GMs this season.

CHI - WR Markus Wheaton has good chance to start

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Markus Wheaton likely has a good chance to start on the outside for the team. The Pittsburgh Steelers used Wheaton in the slot, but he wasn't nearly as productive as he was on the outside.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure if it really will make much of a difference where he lines up with the Bears. Wheaton was underwhelming with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL throwing him the ball when Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was tossing him passes. He is unlikely to see an equivalent level of play out of either Mike Glennon or rookie Mitchell Trubisky, so we're not sold that he finally reaches his potential in Chicago.

PIT - Xavier Grimble could 'make a run' at starting job

          Source: Bob Labriola - Steelers.com

Bob Labriola, of Steelers.com, believes Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Xavier Grimble could 'make a run' at the starting job in training camp this year. While Grimble has flashed the ability to be special, Labriola cautions that the young tight end must get more consistent if he's going to beat out Jesse James for the top spot on the depth chart.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With all the weapons in Pittsburgh, we don't expect big production from the tight end position. Both players have intriguing upside but unless looking to take a flier on someone, this isn't a team we'd go to for a fantasy tight end.

BAL - More 3-WR sets for Baltimore in 2017?

Source: Jeff Zrebeic - Baltimore Sun

Jeff Zrebeic, from the Baltimore Sun, believes the Baltimore Ravens are going to use more three-wide receiver sets in 2017. They used such formations on 58 percent of the offensive snaps in 2016, a mark that should increase this season. Joe Flacco ranked 11th in the NFL with 429 passing attempts with three or more wide receivers on the field last year. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning led the league with 580 passing attempts in such personnel packages.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This would be good news for Flacco's numbers, but could water down the production for the receivers. Mind you, this rhetoric could just be stemming from the fact that the Ravens don't really know how their receivers will shake out. Jeremy Maclin and Mike Wallace could both do really well, and Breshad Perriman has intriguing speed on the outside if healthy. We need to watch this very closely throughout the summer and preseason. We think Wallace and Maclin have a lot of value but Perriman could be good enough to throw all three receivers into inconsistent chaos.

IND - Chester Rogers challenging for serious playing time

          Source: Kevin Bowen - Colts.com

Kevin Bowen, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Chester Rogers is challenging for serious playing time in 2017. According to the report, Rogers has a 'real shot' at winning the no3 job at wide receiver behind T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's definitely way too early to start talking about this, and third wide receiver isn't particularly a lucrative and high-producing fantasy option. The Colts have TE Jack Doyle as the likely third option in the passing game, limiting the value of Rogers, Kamar Aiken or Philip Dorsett. We'll watch this, but we're not terribly excited. Yet.

"I'm getting there. It's a process," Coates said. "That's what this process is for, to get your body back so you can compete during camp."

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey was relieved of his duties Thursday, June 22.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a bit shocking. Given that it seemed like the Chiefs were making very specific moves (dumping WR Jeremy Maclin, moving up to draft QB Patrick Mahomes), it made sense to think the front office was stable. Clearly something was going on, and perhaps Andy Reid was the one in the driver's seat. It will be interesting to see who the new general manager is.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs have been to the playoffs in three of the four years Reid has been their coach. He sports a 43-21 record overall in four seasons. With rookie QB Patrick Mahomes set to take over for Alex Smith in the future (near future?), we should see the Chiefs have a more exciting and downfield passing attack with Reid calling the shots.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This isn't a shock considering how few and far between his carries were in 2016. It's Carey's final year on his rookie deal and with Jordan Howard the main back, there's a good chance Carey won't see that play out.

Make sure to note this is just in the opinion of the writer, Connor Hughes. Who like the rest of us, is trying to figure out who'll do what for the Jets this year. It's also a conflicting report as to what most expected with the rebuilding Jets in 2017. Bilal Powell was thought to be the primary back with Forte playing the complementary role. DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott to catch more passes?

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This report is music to the ears of Elliott's fantasy owners. Elliott was second in rushing/receiving yards last year with 1,994 yards -- but most of it was done on the ground (1,631 yards). Going over 2,000 combined yards seems like a given, and getting used more as a receiver could make him the top fantasy player to own in 2017. His 11.34 yards per catch ranked 2nd in the NFL last year (1st was Spencer Ware, 13.55) for running backs.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things change pretty quickly around here. Sharpe started last year as a rookie and hauled in 41 passes for the Titans. This year, Sharpe has a tenuous hold on his roster spot. He's not going to be a fantasy factor behind Corey Davis, Rishard Matthews, Eric Decker and Taywan Taylor.

DET - TE Eric Ebron expecting big things

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said he believes the addition of TE Darren Fells will allow him to play to his strengths. 'I think it's going to play a significant role for me to allow me to do the things that I'm best at,' Ebron said.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron will be the primary receiving threat for the Lions at the tight end position. Fuller is a blocker and won't contribute much as a receiver. In the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft, the Lions selected another big-bodied tight end in Mike Roberts. In college at Toledo he was a noted touchdown hog, but rookie tight ends usually struggle their first season or two. Ebron should get over 100 targets this year and has the upside to be a top-10 fantasy tight end in 2017. He's going off the board at TE14 (12.08) right now in 12-team PPR leagues.

Coates is going to compete with rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster for the no3 wide receiver position in Pittsburgh behind Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant. We like the rookie (Smith-Schuster) more in this battle. Coates is fast and can get downfield in the blink of an eye, but he's had problems with drops since he started catching (or dropping) footballs and he's been banged up. Dynasty owners should be able to score him on the cheap if you believe he'll ever play up to his potential.

Terrelle Pryor could be the primary target for QB Kirk Cousins and of course TE Jordan Reed will have a significant role. Crowder is there to catch 70 or more catches this year, and there's a chance he could get 90-ish receptions in 2017 depending on how things shake out around him.

NYJ - Elijah McGuire will have a role

Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes

New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire will have a role with the team this season, according to running backs coach Stump Mitchell. 'I like everything (about him),' Mitchell said. 'He's got great hands. As a third-down back or simply a back, he can catch the ball extremely well. He has good vision, and a good ability to make cuts. I like him. He's a student of the game and good in the classroom.'

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McGuire can be a standout player in a certain role. At 5'10" 214 pounds, McGuire has a good size/speed combination. He's not a forceful runner between the tackles but can be especially dangerous in space. McGuire can be lined up in the slot or catch passes easily as a relief-valve receiver out of the backfield.

HOU - WR Braxton Miller making strides

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain
Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller was praised for his progress in OTAs by assistant coach Wes Welker.
            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Miller was a converted quarterback from Ohio State who barely started learning the wide receiver position in college. He's a phenomenal athlete and could be a fine slot receiver for the Texans. Their passing game is a bit of a question mark with rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson as the likely starter. That limits Miller's fantasy impact (especially behind DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller), and we'd project the second-year pro for around 25 catches in 2017.

NYG - Odell Beckham deal not top priority

                  Source: Newsday - Neil Best

New York Giants team president John Mara said WR Odell Beckham Jr. could receive a contract extension in the near future but it is not a top priority for the Giants at this time.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Beckham's fifth-year option exercised, the Giants control his rights for the next two years. It's better to get something done sooner rather than later as Beckham is one of the most productive players at his position. He'll get big money and could set the market for wide receivers. Mara said there is no timetable for Beckham's extension.

WAS - WR Brian Quick on bubble

Source: CSN Mid-Atlantic - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins WR Brian Quick struggled was disappointing during offseason workouts and will need a strong training camp to make the final roster, in the opinion of CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Quick signed a one-year, $855,000 deal in March, receiving a mere $80,000 signing bonus but he's not guaranteed a roster spot. Washington has a new-look WR corps with Terrelle Pryor, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder as their top three at the position. Even if Quick does make the team, he's unlikely to make a fantasy impact.

WAS - WR Terrelle Pryor reaching out to NFL greats

                  Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Terrelle Pryor is working out 'at various points in the summer' with Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown and seeks out the counsel of former NFL receiver Randy Moss on a regular basis, according to ESPN's John Keim.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor had a breakout season last year with the Browns, finishing with 77 catches, 1,007 yards plus four touchdowns which helped him rank as the 20th fantasy WR in 2016. In his first season with Washington, fantasy owners should project Pryor with around 70 catches. He's going off the board at WR18 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NO - Alvin Kamara working as receiver

                  Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara spent time working with the receivers during OTAs.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara is a running back, but he is certainly dangerous with the ball in open space. The Saints should use him as a receiving/change-of-pace back behind Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson. Despite their collection of talent in 2017, Kamara should be able to flash enough to get fantasy owners excited about his potential with this team.

PHI - Donnel Pumphrey moved around during workouts

                  Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com - Dave Spadaro

Philadelphia Eagles RB Donnel Pumphrey lined up at running back, wide receiver and slot receiver during offseason workouts because the team wanted to see if he could catch and what he could do in space.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pumphrey is dangerous in space and the Eagles are grooming him to be the eventual replacement to Darren Sproles. They'll have a package of plays in for him this year as a rookie, and his role will be limited by his size (170 pounds).

TEN - WR Eric Weems likely will make team

Source: USA TODAY NETWORK-Tennessee - Jason Wolf

Tennessee Titans WR Eric Weems likely will make the 53-man roster because of his ability to be a kick and punt returner.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Weems played only 16 snaps for the Falcons in 2016 and didn't get a single target on offense. He's a return man only but should be able to find a place in the now crowded Titans WR corps.

DAL - WR Lucky Whitehead's spot in danger?

Source: The Dallas Morning News - David Moore

Dallas Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead could lose his roster spot if WR Ryan Switzer shows he is capable of being the primary return man, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Switzer is a quick-twitch wide receiver who can get open on underneath routes. His fast foot frequency allows him to change direction without losing much speed within his route. With his size, Switzer has a smaller catch radius, but if the pass is on point he can make a play after the catch. He's also a good return man. Whitehead will have his work cut out for him if he wants to make the 53-man roster.

HOU - Houston wants more from TE Ryan Griffin

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain
Houston Texans TE Ryan Griffin needs to be more effective in red zone this season, according to the coaching staff.
                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Griffin had six red-zone targets in 2016, catching four passes for 24 yards and two touchdowns near pay dirt. His stat line overall (50 catches, 442 yards, two TDs) helped him finish as the no27 fantasy tight end in 2016. The Texans have a plethora of pass-catching talent that will likely take targets away from Griffin in 2017.
