Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars interim head coach Doug Marrone was officially named the Jaguars' permanent head coach Monday, Jan. 9.

Marrone failed as the head coach of the Bills in 2013 and 2014, but he did a good job in two games as interim coach of the Jaguars in 2016. His main project will be to revive the career of QB Blake Bortles. The Jaguars seemed to play better (against weak defenses) over the last two games with Marrone at the helm.

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (ribs) suffered two fractured ribs against the New York Giants Sunday, Jan. 8.

No matter who is hired, Anderson should have a sizable role once again -- so long as he can stay healthy.

North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky announced Monday, Jan. 9, that he will enter the NFL Draft.

Trubisky is going to be a first-round pick, and there's a chance he goes off the board in the top 10 of the 2017 NFL draft. When the pocket is clean, Trubisky has the ability to fire-back shoulder throws on deep targets. He played in a screen-heavy offense, but when given time Trubisky will look deep. Often late to respond to pressure, Trubisky doesn't have the arm to just sling passes into tight spots.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) should be 'good to go' for the team's Divisional Round matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Baltimore Ravens RBs Kenneth Dixon and Terrance West appear to be on solid footing with the team, but head coach John Harbaugh hinted the Ravens will be interested in adding a player to the mix that could help them improve on the seven 20-yard plays (six runs, one reception) his backs created in 2016.

This is a great running back draft class, and the Ravens will have plenty of choices. They could wait until the fourth round and still potentially add a playmaker like San Diego State's Donnel Pumphrey. He's not built to be a full-time running back in the NFL, but Pumphrey can score anytime he touches the ball.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he hasn't been approached by the team about a contract extension yet.

Stafford is on the books for $16.5 million in 2017, and he's set to be a free agent in 2018. His injured finger ended up costing the Lions late in the year and in the playoff game against the Seahawks on Saturday. Even with that injury, Stafford passes for 4,327 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2016.

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (wrist) had his left wrist in a hard cast Monday, Jan. 9, but he said he hasn't had surgery on it.

Riddick was a PPR flex play when healthy, but he only played in 10 games this season. He finished the season on Injured Reserve and missed the Lions postseason run. Riddick had 357 yards rushing this year, one rushing touchdown along with 371 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. A free agent in 2017, it will be interesting to see if the Lions make a move to keep Riddick on the team.

NE - RB LeGarrette Blount played well against HOU

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount had 24 rushes for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans.

The agent for Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray has had talks with the team about a contract extension. Murray has said he'd like to stay with the team that drafted him.

It seems that whoever plays at WR, Aaron Rogers will find them. Giving him enough time to do so is the thing. The Offensive Line did a great job of it in recent games, but can they manage David Irving and Company?

That is what I saw in the Giants game. Rodgers dancing in the pocket. He is playing well. Got to believe he takes revenge on the Cowboys for the regular season game.

Wednesday Update

PIT - Roethlisberger's foot 'shouldn't be an issue'

Free-agent WR Rueben Randle (Eagles) signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Randle was eligible to sign a futures contract with the Bears since he was out of football in 2016. They worked him out in November and must've felt like he was worth a shot. There's a chance he could find a spot with the Bears, but he didn't do anything to impress a WR-needy Eagles team in 2016 training camp.

Charles has a $7 million cap number in 2017, and the Chiefs might want to move on with that salary (and no dead money left on the contract). He'd get some interest on the open market if the Chiefs release him.

After winning it all with Clemson on Monday night, Watson has nothing left to prove. A plus athlete, Watson is tough and proved that he can take big hits and stay aggressive as a passer. He's a first-round pick for sure, but after his performance in the title game we could see him as a top-5 pick or perhaps even number one overall.

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph will interview for the San Francisco 49ers' head coaching vacancy Thursday, Jan. 12.

That's if the Broncos don't hire him on Tuesday or Wednesday. Seen as the top candidate in Denver, Joseph could land the best job opening in the NFL. The Broncos still have a great core on defense and arguably the league's best secondary. Joseph could then hire someone like Mike McCoy to run the offense and get more production out of that side of the ball. The 49ers could use a guy like Joseph as well, but they may not get the chance if Denver strikes quickly.

Bridgewater is under contract for $2.18 million for 2017, and the 2018 option could be worth more than $11 million. That would be a wise move for the Vikings. Nobody knows how Bridgewater is going to come back from his horrific knee injury, so the Vikings need to kind of wait and see.

The Broncos could use someone to boost that offense, and Shanahan would do the trick. They need to find a coach that could get the most out of their 2016 first-round pick QB Paxton Lynch. Shanahan could follow in the footsteps of his father, Mike Shanahan, and go work with John Elway to get the Broncos back in a Super Bowl window. They're closer than some may think, and adding a guy like Kyle Shanahan could put them over the top.

He's known as a strong leader and talent evaluator, and Joseph will have to work with strong personalities...especially on the defensive side...in Denver. If you want to see something scary, look at the home/road splits for Roethlisberger. Their last game against the Chiefs was a blowout win, but the Steelers are traveling to Kansas City this time around. In 2016, Roethlisberger has 22 passing TDs at home and only nine on the road. He only has seven interceptions at home this year, but he's got eight interceptions on the road. The Steelers would be wise to feed RB Le'Veon Bell as much as possible.

Don't be surprised if a team like Baltimore shows some interest in Garcon on the open market.
