JAX - RB Daryl Richardson added by Jaguars

    Source: NFL

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Daryl Richardson was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson is a speed back who could latch on with the Jaguars with a futures deal if he impresses this final week of the regular season. They needed to add him with T.J. Yeldon on Injured Reserve.

OAK - QB Matt McGloin will start Week 17

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Oakland Raiders QB Matt McGloin will start in Week 17, while QB Connor Cook will serve as the backup.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here with Derek Carr likely done for the year. McGloin was successful in college at Penn State, and he might be one of the best backup QBs in the league. We'll see what he can do against the Broncos fierce pass defense in Week 17.

TB - RB Doug Martin's Week 17 status uncertain

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter would not say if RB Doug Martin will be active for the team's Week 17 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was a bit of a shock to see Martin a healthy scratch in Week 16. Even if he practices this week in full, there may be another decision to deactivate him for Week 17.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls should play this week

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (shoulder) will have an MRI Monday, Dec. 26, but he is expected to play in Week 17, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The shoulder injury is considered minor. Alex Collins may get more work in the backfield if they want to limit the snaps for Rawls in Week 17.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett should be ready for camp

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (knee) should be recovered in time for training camp, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lockett's injury was hard to look at, but it sounds like his pro career won't be in jeopardy from this.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller feeling better

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller (ankle) is feeling better after sitting out Week 16 because of an ankle injury, but head coach Bill O'Brien said he is not sure if Miller will play in Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team wants to make some noise in the postseason, and having Miller near full strength would help. They're in the postseason, but the Texans cannot improve their playoff seeding in Week 17. They won't push Miller if he's not ready.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor to keep starting job

Source: The Buffalo News - Jay Skurski

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan indicated that QB Tyrod Taylor will continue to be the team's starting quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rookie Cardale Jones is too raw, and former first-round pick E.J. Manuel isn't really good at football. Taylor's future with the team is a bit of a question mark, but it's more likely Ryan is fired than Taylor is not with the team in 2017.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty goes to IR

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (shoulder) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Petty got in six games this year as Ryan Fitzpatrick disappointed as the starter. The second-year pro had 809 passing yards, three touchdowns and seven interceptions. Playing Madden doesn't make you a better NFL QB, and Petty didn't really improve during his time as the starter. The Jets should go back to Fitzpatrick as 2016 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg is unlikely to see the field this year.

SD - Kenneth Farrow placed on IR
Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Kenneth Farrow (shoulder) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Dec. 26.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Farrow tried to come back in Week 16 after sustaining this injury, but he's just not had much success as the team's lead back. Melvin Gordon could return to the lineup in Week 17 against the Chiefs. Ronnie Hillman will get a larger role without Farrow taking snaps.

TEN - QB Matt Cassel officially named starter

    Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans QB Matt Cassel was name the starter for Week 17 by head coach Mike Mularkey. Mularkey was noncommittal on QB Alex Tanney possibly playing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tanney is the best trick-shot QB in the league...seriously, look him up on YouTube. However, he doesn't have the experience that Cassel does. Cassel should be able to make the Texans defense a strong fantasy or DFS play in Week 17, but we seriously doubt his ability to move the offense with consistency or potency.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde won't need surgery

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (knee) will not need surgery on his torn medial collateral ligament.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hyde has been banged up quite a bit during his pro career. Entering a contract season in 2017, he'll need to prove that he can stay healthy and produce. With Hyde done for the year, Shaun Draughn should be the top back in a RBBC with DuJuan Harris in the season finale against the Seahawks.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson also day-to-day

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (jaw) is day-to-day, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson played through this issue in Week 16, and his status for Week 17 is up in the air. We should know more about his availability on Wednesday.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed day-to-day

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (shoulder) is day-to-day, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed missed the game in Week 16 to get some much needed rest. He's likely to be doubtful for Week 17, but Reed may try to tough it out against the Giants.

DEN - No decision on Denver's QB

Source: The Denver Post - Lindsay Jones

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak has not yet decided who will start in Week 17 between QBs Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Siemian was downright awful against the Chiefs on Christmas night. The Broncos are out of the playoff picture, so they might as well play their first-round pick. The team needs to focus on the future, and that may be Lynch. It certainly doesn't look like Siemian will be anything more than a spot starter or career backup at best.

WAS - Rob Kelley had MRI

Source: The Washington Post - Master Tesfatsion

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley (knee) had an MRI on his injured knee Tuesday, Dec. 26, and is considered day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's early, but Kelley may be sidelined for the season finale against the Giants. When he was banged up against the Bears, Mack Brown came in and had over 80 yards rushing and a touchdown on only eight carries. If Kelley is out, then Brown and Chris Thompson could work in a RBBC for Washington.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert placed on IR

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Limited to eight games this year, Eifert finishes the season with 29 catches, 394 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Entering the final year of his contract in 2017, Eifert needs to prove that he can stay healthy and produce if he wants to get an extension with the team. Back injuries can be tricky to come back from, so watch Eifert's status entering OTAs this upcoming offseason.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson moved around in Week 16

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars interim head coach Doug Marrone explained part of the reason WR Allen Robinson had so much success in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans had to do with the team's focus on moving him around the formation more often.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marrone was able to get a lot of production out of Robinson in Week 16. Robinson's 147 receiving yards was easily a season high for the young receiver. We should see the Jaguars employ a similar tactic for Robinson in Week 17.

KC - RB Spencer Ware could have returned Week 16

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) could have returned to the team's Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos, but the team chose to be cautious and hold him out.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs pounded the Broncos on the ground, and there was no need to bring Ware back into the contest. They are trying to win the AFC West, and they are certainly building for what they hope is a deep playoff run. Those prospects are greatly helped if Ware is healthy.

MIA - Miami unlikely to rest its starters

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase told reporters Monday, Dec. 26, his goal is to go '1-0 this week', implying he will not rest his starters in Week 17 versus the New England Patriots with a chance to improve the team's seeding in the NFL Playoffs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They may have to rest Jay Ajayi a little bit. The Dolphins are in the postseason, and they need Ajayi to lead the way on the ground if they want to advance. This week against the Patriots, Ajayi might be limited. Ajayi was favoring his left shoulder near the end of the team's Week 16 win over the Buffalo Bills.

NE - New England unlikely to rest starters

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick hinted he would not be resting his starters in Week 17, suggesting Tom Brady, LeGarrette Blount and Julian Edelman among others will play their full complement of snaps in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for fantasy owners still playing in Week 17. The Patriots have locked up a first-round bye, but they don't have the number one seed just yet. With something to play for, expect the Patriots to keep everyone's workload at a normal level in Week 17.

          Steelers are resting their starters.

And I agree no fantasy league should include Week 17, but this thread also has information important to BETTORS as well so I will probably keep it going through the playoffs.

            Wednesday Update

            BUF - Rex Ryan fired

            Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan was fired Tuesday, Dec. 27. Assistant head coach Anthony Lynn will serve as interim head coach.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, so Ryan is out. Ryan went 15-16 in two years as the Bills head coach. Injuries set back the team this year, and Ryan couldn't bring them out of their playoff drought. We think his time as a head coach is over, but Ryan could latch on as a defensive coordinator with another team somewhere.

BUF - Tyrod Taylor will not play Week 17

            Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor will reportedly be benched for Week 17 against the New York Jets. Buffalo reportedly does not want to take the chance of owing Taylor $30.75 million should he get hurt in the regular-season finale. Impending free-agent EJ Manuel will start in his place.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's just a business decision for the Bills. They don't want Taylor to get hurt so they'll keep him off the field in Week 17. We may have seen the last of Taylor in a Bills uniform as some reports speculate the team will release him in the offseason. With Rex Ryan fired, the Bills are moving in a whole new direction yet again.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert may need surgery

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) had surgery recommended to correct a disc problem in his back, which has become more uncomfortable in recent weeks, according to multiple sources.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert has been banged up quite a bit during his pro career. This back problem wasn't his only injury this season as an ankle injury (suffered in the Pro Bowl) also held him down. Hopefully this surgery takes care of the back injury that has been problematic for him. The 2017 season isn't in jeopardy for the veteran tight end.

NYJ - QB Bryce Petty to undergo surgery

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta and Daniel Popper

Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Bryce Petty (shoulder) will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, according to a source.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Petty's injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, but the damage was bad enough that he needed surgery to repair it. He's already on Injured Reserve, and the team will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starter in Week 17.

DET - RB Theo Riddick did more side work

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (wrist) ramped up his side work in practice last week.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Riddick could be back this week against the Packers. If the Lions win in Week 17, they win their first division title since 1993. Zach Zenner looked good as a runner against the Cowboys, but he's not the receiving threat that Riddick is. Having Riddick back would be a boost for the Lions offense -- specifically the passing game in a win-and-you're-in game against the Packers.

DAL - QB Tony Romo unlikely for finale

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is unlikely to play in Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to owner Jerry Jones. 'We don't feel like we can gain anything from him running a few plays,' Jones said. '(It's) not worth the risk.'

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys have the no.1 seed in the NFC locked up with their win over the Lions on Monday night. Romo won't play and even Dak Prescott's time is up in the air. Right now, coach Jason Garrett says the starters will play but we'll see how this story develops.

TB - RB Doug Martin won't play finale

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin will be inactive again in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another week, and another healthy scratch designation for Martin. Set to make $7 million in base salary in 2017, it looks like Martin will not be back with the Bucs. Jacquizz Rodgers should be their lead back in Week 17, and Charles Sims should work as a receiving/change-of-pace back.

DAL - Jason Garrett plans to play starters

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the 'preliminary plan' for the team's Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, Jan. 1, is to play the starters who are healthy.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's the plan now, but it could change as we get closer to Sunday. If you have to play this week, then proceed with caution when considering your Cowboys.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed will play Week 17

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (shoulder) will play in the team's Week 17 finale Sunday, Jan. 1, against the New York Giants.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed isn't at 100 percent, but Washington needs all the help they can get in Week 17. They need some help to get in, but Washington is still alive for a playoff spot.

SEA - Seahawks work out veteran RBs

            Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RBs Stevan Ridley (Falcons), Jonas Gray (Jaguars), LaMichael James (Dolphins), Dominique Williams (Jets) and Dan Herron (Bills) worked out for the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, Dec. 27.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No signing is imminent, but it shows how thin Seattle is at running back.

            Source: CSNPhilly.com - Dave Zangaro

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (back) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, Dec. 27.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles are thin at running back with only Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall healthy on the active roster. Practice squad running back Terrell Watson could be called up later this week.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon 'probably' a Game Time Decision

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee, hip) said he will 'probably be a game-time decision' for the team's Week 17 game Sunday, Jan. 1. He added, 'If I can (play Sunday), I will.'

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers are thin at running back with Kenneth Farrow on I.R. They could use Gordon, but there's no need to rush him back for a meaningless Week 17 game. Ronnie Hillman could start for the Chargers this week.

TB - TE Cameron Brate won't play this week

            Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cameron Brate (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 27.
            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A third-year UDFA out of Harvard, Brate turned in career-best numbers this season. With 57 catches, 660 yards and eight receiving touchdowns Brate was a top-10 fantasy tight end in standard scoring leagues. He's an Exclusive Rights Free Agent in 2017, and that guarantees he's returning to the Bucs. Entering next year, Brate will be considered top 10 at his position again.

OAK - QB Derek Carr doing well

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (fibula) underwent successful surgery Tuesday, Dec. 27, and is doing well, according to his mother. Carr is expected to be fully recovered from his broken fibula in six to eight weeks.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a small chance he could be ready for the Super Bowl if the Raiders make it that far, but let's just move forward considering that Carr is done for this season...no matter how far the Raiders go. He should be good to go for OTAs and of course training camp next year. Carr is the best QB in his division, and he's one of the best young players at his position in the league.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green still in protocol

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Gerry Dulac

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) is still in the league's concussion protocol and not expected to play in Week 17 versus the Cleveland Browns.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Without Green, the Steelers should turn to Xavier Grimble and Jesse James once again. The Steelers can't move from the no.3 spot in the playoffs, so expect them to rest their starters at some point in Week 17.

SD - RB Andre Williams promoted

            Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

San Diego Chargers RB Andre Williams was elevated from the team's practice squad Tuesday, Dec. 27.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Kenneth Farrow on I.R. the team had to do something. Williams will serve as a backup to Melvin Gordon and Ronnie Hillman. Gordon's status is unclear for this week as he's dealing with a knee/hip injury that has cost him two games.

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Gordon may actually play for the Chargers this week. If he can't, the Chargers have to turn to Ronnie Hillman as Kenneth Farrow is on I.R. Gordon is a game-time decision.

There is no short hook for Savage. The Texans are going to make a postseason run with Savage as their starter.

JAX - Tom Coughlin interviewing with Jags

                  Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is interviewing for the vacant head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, Dec. 28.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coughlin is a rather hot coaching candidate this year. The Jaguars were his first head coaching gig, and he may end up back there in 2017. The team may be closer to competing for the playoffs than some think. They certainly have a defense that can make plays, but they just need to find a way to get the best out of Blake Bortles. They may peg Couglin as the guy to do just that.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is going to have finger surgery this offseason, but he's been toughing it out for weeks with this injury. Cody Kessler is likely to start at quarterback, so Pryor may have better production than he did with Robert Griffin III under center.

TB - RB Doug Martin's guarantee will be void

                  Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin's four-game suspension will make void his $7 million in guaranteed money next year, according to sources.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin is going to take time to clear up some personal issues. He was a healthy scratch in Week 16, and he's suspended for Week 17 this year and the first three games of the 2017 season. Whether or not those games will be with the Bucs is incredibly unclear at the moment.

                  Source: Steelers.com

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers can't move up or down in the playoff seeding. That makes Week 17 completely irrelevant. It wouldn't make sense to risk Green's health in a meaningless game. They'll try to have him back for the playoffs if at all possible.

BAL - WR Steve Smith will retire after season

                  Source: SportsCenter

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith announced Wednesday, Dec. 28, that he will retire at the end of the regular season.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a bummer. We were hoping that after a disappointing season for the Ravens, Smith would come back for one more year. A third-round pick in 2001, Smith has over 1,000 receptions and over 14,000 receiving yards. In his final game on Sunday, we expect the Ravens to feature Smith early and often.

Reed should play in Week 17. Washington needs to win and get some help to get into the postseason, so it's 'all hands on deck' this week.

Let's not put the cart in front of the horse. If the Raiders make it to the postseason, it likely means they went through the Patriots. Let's just say with Matt McGloin at quarterback we don't see that happening.

BUF - Anthony Lynn likely the guy

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills interim head coach Anthony Lynn is likely the team's choice to take over as head coach beyond his interim basis. The team has given every indication they're sticking with him.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's too soon to say what is going to happen. Tom Coughlin was reportedly the top candidate here, but Lynn is certainly going to be in the mix.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is likely to be full go this weekend in a spectacular matchup against the Saints "secondary" - and yes, that was meant to be in quotes. The only limiting factor could be an early lead, which would likely get him on the sideline.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams may receive a solid amount of playing time in Week 17 because he missed several weeks with a knee injury, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams should be a solid start, but we're not sure if he will split time with Fitzgerald Toussaint. As that is the case, we are avoiding both unless there is clarity in the next few days.

The Giants secondary is a tad battered, so if Jackson is healthy, he is an excellent start this weekend. Jackson is coming off three straight 100-yard games, and we feel he could come close to making it four.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) underwent back surgery Tuesday, Dec. 28, according to head coach Marvin Lewis.

This back injury wasn't the only problem Eifert had this season. He had an ankle problem that required surgery and a lengthy recovery. He's played eight games this season, and Eifert has never played a full 16-game season. He needs to prove that he can stay durable and produce next season. Reed's injury is a concern, and he has had two awful games. As a result, we are pretty cool on him this week and wouldn't put him in our lineups unless we were up against a wall.

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore (rest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore is likely to make a strong push to crack 1,000 yards and given his age and the relative ineptitude of the offensive line, we should applaud him for it. It's a good matchup for him this weekend, so we expect him to get far more than the 36 yards he needs to reach that goal.

Watkins is in a run-first offense with EJ Manuel throwing the ball, so even though the matchup against the pathetic Jets secondary is choice, Watkins' ceiling is rather low. He's a decent start, but a bit risky.

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden likely will receive most of the snaps at running back in Week 17 since the team likely will give RB Ezekiel Elliott limited work.

Elliott is going to have to be fresh for the playoffs. They will give him some work, but it will be severely curtailed. McFadden is likely to get a lot of work though, and should be an excellent start against Philadelphia this weekend.

Dallas Cowboys QB Mark Sanchez will be active for the team's Week 17 game and is expected to play once the team decides to take QB Dak Prescott out of the game.

This makes it impossible to confidently play either guy as Prescott could be in for one snap, one quarter or the whole game, which means Sanchez might be in a lot or not at all. Go with a quarterback we know will be in the whole game.

We don't think Hill will play, but Rex Burkhead should be a solid start against Baltimore this weekend. The Baltimore defense doesn't allow more than 85.1 yards a game, but Burkhead should get enough carries (and a few receptions) to make him worth a start.

If Miller is out, Alfred Blue is a solid start against the Tennessee Titans. We expect him to have a full load of carries, but his limited skillset puts a low ceiling on his production.

Lee isn't more than a "hail mary" type start, and we don't trust him this week. He has upside, but his floor is too low to trust.

Atlanta Falcons WR Taylor Gabriel (foot) will be a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 29, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gabriel has been a bit streaky in terms of catches and targets, but has scored touchdowns two out of the last three games. He faces a suspect secondary, but is a little too touchdown dependent to rely on.

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) likely will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 as long as he does not suffer a setback.

We won't be starting him, even if the Steelers might take their foot off the gas. The Browns got their win last week, and we expect things to revert to "Factory of Sadness" levels again this week.

Lewis has seen a large uptick in carries the last two games, but we think this will be more of a split with James White and LeGarrette Blount, limiting his impact. He has upside, but he's also very risky.

NYJ - Todd Bowles coming back in 2017

Source: New York Daily News - Gary Myers

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles will return for the 2017 season, according to a well-placed source close to the team.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The concern Jets fans should have is the current chaos in the locker-room. Pair that with Mo Wilkerson's skipping meetings, Sheldon Richardson's lack of focus and Darrelle Revis ghosting the last half of the season and this won't instill confidence anytime soon.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Byron Marshall should see an expanded role in the regular season finale against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still see Darren Sproles as a slightly better play (in PPR leagues) in a tough matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. The only good thing here is that the Cowboys don't have anything to play for and can rest starters, so Marshall and Sproles might both have success against bench players.

SD - TE Antonio Gates might play in 2017

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates indicated Wednesday, Dec. 28, that he might play one more season in 2017. 'This is not the way I expected to be done. I'm definitely leaning toward coming back,' Gates said.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates is coming off a nice effort in a loss to the Cleveland Browns, so we would imagine he feels he has to come back. The Chargers should be a team competing each year but after back to back 9-7 seasons under head coach Mike McCoy, it's been all downhill. Gates has a tough matchup this weekend, and while we think he could be a reliable play in a week where a lot of other tight ends may be resting or on short minutes.

                              Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo is expected to see action in Week 17. QB Dak Prescott will start the game, and QB Mark Sanchez will also see playing time, but the amount hasn't been determined.

Romo gets to play, but how much is a mystery. We can't see him playing that much, but the team wants to knock some rust off his game just in case they need to go to him in the postseason.

CLE - QB Josh McCown hopes to play

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown said he hopes to play in 2017, but he also has an offer from head coach Hue Jackson to serve on his staff.

A third-round pick out of Sam Houston State all the way back in 2002, McCown has bounced to several NFL teams during his pro career and even had a stop in the UFL. McCown made it into five games this year, finishing with 1,100 yards passing, six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill (knee) is unlikely to play against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17.

The Bengals will have a backfield led by Rex Burkhead with some Cedric Peerman thrown in for good measure.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett should play

                                      Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) is expected to play against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 even though he is listed as questionable for the game.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots haven't locked up the no.1 seed in the AFC, so they'll be playing hard against the Dolphins. Bennett has been hot and cold this year for fantasy owners. On the season, the Dolphins allow an average of 58.6 passing yards per game (13th) to tight ends. The last time Bennett played Miami (Week 2), he had five catches, 114 receiving yards and one touchdown.

SD - TE Hunter Henry to be featured TE in 2017

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter

San Diego Chargers TE Hunter Henry will be the team's featured tight end next season regardless of whether or not Antonio Gates returns for a 15th season.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Henry is certainly the heir apparent at the position for the Chargers. He should get work as the primary tight end for the team in 2017, and he's got low-end TE1 ability for fantasy owners with that role.

BAL - Firing imminent for Marty Mornhinweg?

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is not expected to remain in his current post at the end of the season, according to the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If that's the case, the Ravens have burned through two offensive coordinators since Gary Kubiak (2014) moved on to be the head coach for the Broncos. Any coach they hire will have to find a way to properly use the talent already on the offense.

SF - RB Shaun Draughn expected to start finale

                                      Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Shaun Draughn is in line to get the start in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks with Carlos Hyde ruled out due to a left MCL sprain.

It's almost all a crapshoot at running back this week. We're not expecting a robust day from the 49ers on Sunday, and that means Draughn may not do much if things go the way we expect.

PIT - RB Fitzgerald Toussaint to see solid work

                                      Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Fitzgerald Toussaint is expected to receive a solid amount of playing time against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17. RB DeAngelo Williams is also expected to receive carries during the game.

Fantasy owners need to proceed with caution here. If Williams got most of the work against the Browns, he could post RB1 numbers....but he's not going to get that workload. If Toussaint gets most of the work against the Browns, we'd trust him more as a flex player...but it sounds like Williams will cut into his workload. This is yet another reason why Week 17 championships are problematic.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews may not play

                                      Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) was very limited during practice Friday, Dec. 30, and may not be able to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Injuries and inconsistencies have plagued Matthews this year. If he doesn't play in Week 17 (certainly seems like he's going to be out), Matthews will finish with 73 catches, 804 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

NE - WR Michael Floyd could face longer jail term

Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter

New England Patriots WR Michael Floyd could face 180 days in jail instead of 45 for his Dec. 12 arrest on a Super Extreme DUI charge.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Floyd is not in a good spot, and this sentence could be much more severe than anticipated. If he is sentenced to 180 days, his availability for next season could be in jeopardy.

TB - RB Jacquizz Rodgers to carry the load

                                      Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Jacquizz Rodgers is expected to see a heavy workload against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17.
                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Without Doug Martin (suspended) and Charles Sims (Injured Reserve), the Bucs have no choice but to turn to Rodgers. He's proven this year that he can handle a starter's workload...if just for a few weeks.

Impossible to tell what teams will show up or not today. Most games are meaningless
