The Zero RB Strategy

This went against everything I've learned and practiced in the over 10 years doing FF but after a few mock drafts, research, and reaching out to some people I know who have done it and had success I decided to try it out. Yesterday I had my draft in a league I've been doing since high school it's a 12-man standard 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR FLEX(WR,TE,RB) TE K Def. Points system is relatively the norm. Year after year this league is always RB heavy in the early rounds. You find out your draft pick once the lobby opens and I had #2. Here's my team in draft order.

Had the SBR PPR draft tonight and decided to go with the Zero RB again and I think this draft went much better than yesterday's with some of the same players in both leagues. Had the #2.

In most drafts I did many people adopted the zero rb strategy. I planned for it by having both wrs and rbs to target in rounds 4-7. In drafts where I felt there was value taking the rbs early I went after Cobb and Montcrief but still picked up a stud wr in first two rounds while also usually getting 2 of L Miller , Mark Ingram , L McCoy. In the others where I did go heavy wr early I targeted J Langford, L Murray, R Jennings and got J White in the later rounds.

Since the zero rb strategy was so popular I thought it was the right move to take advantage. Especially in ppr leagues of grabbing rbs that project to see a ton of targets in the passing game.

I don't get the strategy and won't ever do it. You will struggle at RB. Yeldon was an "iffy" starter last year and he had zero competition in the backfield. He will be very hit and miss with Ivory. He will be TD dependent, and I would only expect a TD form him once every 4 games or so. I like the value with Blount, but like Yeldon, I would never depend on a NE RB on a week-to-week basis. He will have some great games, but expect games where he only see's like 5 snaps. That's what Bellicheck does with his RB's.

Honestly, I don't like your team at all. If you do go zero RB strategy early, I wouldn't use an early round pick on QB, and I wouldn't have taken Floyd with your 5th round pick.

Ended up going with Carr in Week 1 which was the right choice after watching tonight's game I may wantvto re-evaluate my QB situation. Had a tough match-up vs the No1 pick. Close game to the end, if DJ caught that pass inference play I would've won but I'm still happy with the outcome. Yeldon did well but I shoud've gone with Gordon but was only a 2 pt difference between the 2. This was the PPR league. As it is right now I'm 3rd in points on the week

Here I sat Gore and started Ware and Yeldon which was the right move. Wilson got injured early so his running was limited but so far it seems he was hurt that bad and should be good to go Week 2. Getting Julius Thomas in both leagues has paid off well so far. Rogers to Nelson is back in effect, liked what Blount brought to the game but not good enough for RB2 or flex just yet. Amari Cooper is ready for another big year with plenty of targets and AB had a huge game which helped but going into tonight I was far ahead. I was top points in this league.


So far the No RB draft worked well. The only thing I'm upset about is DJ with a few drops on tonight's game could've won me both leagues.

Mikemca couldn't agree more grabbing RBs who can catch is a must when going with the zero rb that's why I was able to get Yeldon, Gordon, and Ware(which depending on when Charles comes back will be limited). I did pick up James White on Sunday a good addition to have in my back pocket when needed.

If your looking for a spot start TE pick up Uzomah from Cincy. Pitts D is weak vs TE's Jordan Reed had 7 catches for 64 Yds and last year Pitt's D allowed 85 catches for 883 yds and 8 tds avg fantasy points 8.5 or if your on DK his price is only $2600 def value imo.

PPR Match-up, sitting Gordon again today. Ivory's out again so Yeldon's going to be getting all the carries. SD gave up 83 Rush yards as well as 129 receiving yards to KC's RB Ware. I gotta expect Yeldon to bust 100 rush today and hopefully get 100 passing.

Standard league, now this may be a crazy move or genius but I'm sitting Ware after his big game last week and starting Blount. Ware has a minor toe injury, which may or may not affect him but I made this decision because I think the Pats are going to run the ball a lot today vs a Mia D that's still struggling to stop the run.

Got a lot of favorable match-ups here to day as well going against #2 in points behind me and down 29.9 points already got a lot of ground to catch.

PPR League, mad at myself here. Made several mistakes with the line-up yet I can still win. As of now 2nd in points Week 2 behind by 20pts. Going with Yeldon was the bad move the correct move should've been Yeldon at Flex sit DJ because of how bad Cousins looked Monday night and start Gordon at RB2 but when Bell comes back I won't have to much dilemma about this. I knew coming into today Benjamin workload was going to increase but not the numbers he put up today. I did start him on my DK line-up but left him out here ...Overall though I'm still really happy with my team Yeldon is hauling a lot of receptions, Odell had a big game, Carr will continue to put up good numbers, getting big numbers from DeAngelo til LeVeon comes back, Edelman is Edelman, Thomas will once again become a top tier TE by the end of the season.

Standard league, now this may be a crazy move or genius but I'm sitting Ware after his big game last week and starting Blount. Ware has a minor toe injury, which may or may not affect him but I made this decision because I think the Pats are going to run the ball a lot today vs a Mia D that's still struggling to stop the run.

I did miss out on a few points from Gore which usually he has a slow start and under 20 carries a game but the upside he's now starting to get receptions 3 this game and 3 last week. Getting my line-up right every week in the RB position is going to be tough with these 3. 2-0 to start

Update. Well looking at my W/L records in both leagues I had a horrible year but I put up a ton of points in both leagues and managed to make the playoffs in both here's the final records for cash league. This league does standings a bit different it takes your avg W/L rank a and total points rank. So if your 1st in W/L and 3rd in points your in 2nd place. 1st tie breaker is W/L and then points. Final standings had me in 5th place.
