ARI - QB Carson Palmer tosses four picks

    Source: The Associated Press

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 23 of 40 passes for 235 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions in a 49-15 loss to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clearly not how Palmer wanted to end the year. But congrats on an excellent season.

DEN - Incentive kicks in for QB Peyton Manning

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning earned a $2 million bonus with a 20-18 win over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning took a $4 million pay cut before this season started. He could make that money back with an AFC Championship win ($2 million) and a Super Bowl win ($2 million). Manning is going to have a chance at a storybook ending to his career if he can win Super Bowl 50. He's obviously got a huge financial opportunity too.

NE - QB Tom Brady pressured in loss

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was hit a season-high 23 times in a 20-18 loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24. Entering the game, Brady hadn't been hit more than 12 times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The amount of pressure Brady was under was simply astounding. The Broncos were not afraid of blitzing Brady even though he gets rid of the football quickly. Brady passed for over 300 yards in the losing effort.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson runs well

    Source: The Associated Press

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson finished with 16 carries for 72 yards and three catches for 18 yards in a 20-18 win over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos are undefeated this year when Anderson gets 14 or more carries in a game. Ronnie Hillman may be the starter, but Anderson is clearly the better and more trusted back when the team needs to close out a game.

DEN - TE Owen Daniels scores twice

    Source: The Associated Press

Denver Broncos TE Owen Daniels had two catches for 33 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-18 win over the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Daniels started out hot for the Broncos. He only hauled in three catches overall, but two were for scores and he was doing a good job of getting open underneath.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski big in loss

    Source: The Associated Press

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski finished with eight catches for a game-high 144 yards and a touchdown in a 20-18 loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos struggle against the tight end position, and Gronkowski is arguably the best in the game at that spot. It's no surprise that he was able to come through for the Patriots.

TB - Todd Monken to be Bucs OC

    Source: Buccaneers.com

Southern Mississippi head coach Todd Monken has been hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be their new offensive coordinator. Monken will also serve as the team's wide receivers coach.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Monken and new head coach Dirk Koetter spent four seasons together when they were with the Jaguars. In addition to helping turn Southern Mississippi's program around, Monken was also an offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.

DAL - QB Tony Romo to be out a while

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) is anticipating a six-to-eight week recovery from his eventual surgery date.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No big deal here. Romo is going to get the surgery he needs, then the team will ease him back into action. They can go far with Romo as their starter, but they have to find a better backup plan in case he goes down with another injury.

NFL - Paxton Lynch compared to QB Blake Bortles

    Source: ESPN

Former University of Memphis QB Paxton Lynch is being trained by former Univeristy of Central Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe, and Taaffe said Lynch has a stronger arm than Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles, who played for Central Florida when Taaffe was the coordinator.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see that comparison. Lynch is big, strong and has the arm to make all the throws in the NFL. However, he needs to prove that he can make complicated reads after working in a simplistic Memphis offense in college that relied a lot on wide receiver screens and shorter routes. Lynch is likely a first-round pick, and there's a chance he's the first QB off the board.

Saw a mock draft that had Goff as the first QB of the board. They had Lych going to the Niners to be with Chip Kelly

        Tuesday Update:

JAX - QB Chad Henne open to re-signing

        Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent QB Chad Henne said he is open to re-signing with the Jaguars this offseason but may want to see if there opportunities for him to compete for a starting job with another team.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't imagine other teams lined up around the block for Henne. If the Jaguars want a veteran backup behind Blake Bortles, then they could decide to just keep Henne.

CIN - RB Jeremy Hill struggled after contact

        Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill averaged only 1.46 yards after contact this season, which ranked him behind 42 other running backs in the NFL.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill had only one more carry than he did as a rookie in 2014, but he had over 300 fewer yards rushing this season. He finished 2015 as the 14th-best fantasy running back in standard scoring, but Hill was inconsistent and he failed to play up to his potential. We'll see if he can get back on track in 2016, but we won't see him taken in the first round like we did in 2015.

NFL - Carson Wentz receiving interest

Source: Yahoo! Sports - Charles Robinson

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz said he has met with nearly half of the NFL teams at the Senior Bowl.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good. Wentz may be the best quarterback in the 2016 NFL draft. He's a tall quarterback, but he's athletic and has a quick release to get rid of the football. Wentz should be a first-round pick this year, and he may be the first QB taken off the board if he impresses during the pre-draft process.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer will let finger heal

        Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (finger) won't be playing in the Pro Bowl in order to let his injured finger heal. He will not need surgery, however.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said that he didn't think the finger was an issue against the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship, but we tend to disagree. Palmer was not effective and didn't take care of the football. Arians said that Palmer probably should not have played in Week 17 of the regular season because of the finger.

NE - RB LeGarrette Blount staying with Patriots?

        Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots impending free-agent RB LeGarrette Blount could be on his way out of New England as he enters free agency this offseason. RB Dion Lewis (knee) will return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and RB James White filled in nicely for Lewis. The Patriots also have another big back on their roster in RB Steven Jackson, putting Blount's future with New England in limbo.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd be shocked if Jackson was back with the Patriots next year. Blount works well with the Patriots when healthy. The team needs a power element to their rushing attack, and they may decide that Blount is the best way to go in 2016.

NO - TE Ben Watson wants to return

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Christopher Dabe

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson said he would love to stay in New Orleans, adding that he has had good talks with owner Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton about re-signing.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A first-round draft pick in 2004 (Patriots), Watson had a career resurgence in 2015 with the Saints. He put up a career-best 825 yards receiving and tied a career high with six touchdown catches. Watson finished the year as the 7th-best fantasy tight end, and he would have to be considered a top-10 option in 2016 if he stays with the Saints.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning efficient in Super Bowl

        Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has completed 68.2% of his passes in Super Bowl play in his career, and only Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman (70.0%) had a higher completion percentage in multiple Super Bowl appearances.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is going to have to be efficient against an opportunistic Panthers defense. With two weeks to rest and prepare, it will be interesting to see what kind of game plan the Broncos come up with.

CAR - QB Cam Newton has faced Denver once

        Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was sacked seven times and had a career-low 5.9 total QBR in his one career matchup against the Denver Broncos back in 2012.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not going to drudge up a game from a few seasons ago to predict anything about Newton's potential against the Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Throw out the records, throw out the history and get ready for a fantastic matchup against a world-class Broncos defense and Superman aka Cam Newton.

CLE - WR Travis Benjamin a priority for Browns?

        Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent WR Travis Benjamin could be a top priority for the Browns this offseason after totaling 68 catches for 966 yards and five touchdowns. He was also fourth in the NFL with 11.6 yards per punt return.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin showed well for the Browns in 2015. The market shouldn't be too pricey for his services, so there's a good chance he could stick around with the Browns.

NE - WR Brandon LaFell could be gone

        Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Brandon LaFell was the fourth wide receiver on the Patriots' depth chart for the AFC Championship, only played on 33 of 38 snaps and was not targeted. This could spell a LaFell release, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell is just too inconsistent to be relied on, and the Patriots finally figured that out. After a career-high 74 catches for 953 yards and seven touchdowns in 2014, LaFell could only muster 37 catches for 515 yards and zero touchdowns in just 11 games. Simply put, the Patriots need better pass-catchers behind TE Rob Gronkowski and WR Julian Edelman.

CLE - Mitchell Swartz talks not going well

        Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns impending free-agent OT Mitchell Schwartz did not have promising initial negotiations for a new deal, as he could be one of the more attractive free-agent offensive tackles this offseason.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Schwartz hits the open market, he'll be one of the hottest names at his position. The Browns are going in a different direction with new head coach Hue Jackson, but having Schwartz around would be a big help.

DEN - S T.J. Ward should be ready

        Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Denver Broncos FS T.J. Ward (ankle) is expected to be ready to play in the Super Bowl against the Carolina Panthers in two weeks.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ward will get some time to rest before the big game. He's an intimidating presence on the field who will likely be tasked (at least in part) with covering TE Greg Olsen.

PHI - TE Zach Ertz finished strong

        Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz had 35 catches for 450 yards over the last four weeks of the regular season, which was the highest yardage total by a tight end in NFL history in the final four weeks.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not everything went right for the Eagles this year, but Ertz was a bright spot. New Eagles head coach Doug Pederson will use Ertz in a similar fashion to the way he used Travis Kelce when he was OC with the Chiefs. That's great news for Ertz, the Eagles....and fantasy owners.

CAR - Ron Rivera optimistic about OLB Thomas Davis

        Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is optimistic that LB Thomas Davis (forearm) will be able to play in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos after having surgery to fix a broken right right arm Monday, Jan. 25. 'If everything goes well, it is my understanding this is something he can play with,' Rivera said.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers have two weeks to get Davis ready. He's one of the best in the game at his position, and the Panthers defense would not be as strong without Davis on the field.

PHI - West coast offense in Philly?

        Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

With the arrival of new Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, the Eagles are expected to switch to the West Coast offense that doesn't require as much blocking for its tight ends.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In other news, water is wet. Pederson is a West Coast guy, and the Eagles will take on that style of offense in 2016.

CAR - DE Jared Allen expects to play in SB50

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) said Sunday, Jan. 24, that the next two weeks will be the longest of his life, but he expects to play in Super Bowl 50 against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Feb. 7.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see if Allen can pull this off. This foot injury was originally thought to be season-ending, but with two more weeks of rest we could see the veteran pass-rusher inserted as a part-time player against the Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

BUF - Buffalo could draft quarterback

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley said he would consider taking a quarterback early in the draft. 'If [the opportunity] presents itself, it makes sense and it's a guy we like, and we believe in, absolutely,' Whaley said.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tyrod Taylor was a fine starter for the Bills this year, but they may be looking to add competition. Whaley has given a couple of halfhearted endorsements to Taylor this offseason in an interesting public display. Due only $1 million in 2016, the Bills may try to work something out long term with Taylor if they feel confident that he can be their franchise quarterback.

SD - QB Philip Rivers considered retirement

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers considered retirement after the 2014 season when he dealt with rib and back injuries. He eventually signed a four-year contract extension last August, and Rivers now says he feels far better this offseason than last. 'This year, physically, I'm great. Emotionally, it's been rough, but I'm excited -- I really am excited about who the new core is going to be. I'm excited to be part of that group. I'm waiting for it, kind of letting them take it. ... It's not going to be the buddies I came with; they're going to be gone,' Rivers said.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Every longtime starting quarterback gets to that point in their career, so it's no surprise to read this report about Rivers. Things are up in the air with the Chargers right now, but Rivers will be there to lead the way in 2016.

CAR - S Roman Harper to be kept from contact

                    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Carolina Panthers SS Roman Harper (eye) will be kept out of contact drills in practice this week as he recovers from a scratched eye that he suffered in the NFC Championship.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A wise move from the Panthers here. Harper is going to get plenty of time to heal as the team has two weeks before Super Bowl 50 is here.

CAR - RB Fozzy Whittaker tweaked his ankle

                    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) tweaked his sprained ankle in the NFC Championship game, but he is expected to be fine for Super Bowl 50, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Whittaker shouldn't get much work in Super Bowl 50 against the Broncos. We're not counting on him to do much in the game. First, the Broncos defense is tremendous at stopping the run. Second, Whittaker is serving as a backup behind Jonathan Stewart. It could be a long day for the Panthers if they force things on the ground against the Broncos.

CIN - Free agency for three Bengals receivers

                    Source: Spotrac.com

Cincinnati Bengals WRs Marvin Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Tate are impending unrestricted free agents this offseason.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals (like all teams) will have a little bit of time to sign their own free agents before the start of the new league year. While Tate may be gone, they could keep him around to keep contributing on special teams. Sanu is a fine possession receiver, but he may be looking for a larger role. Jones is the guy to keep around above the others, but his price tag is unknown at this time.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning trying to make history

                    Source: ESPN.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning would become the oldest quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl if he's able to beat the Carolina Panthers, breaking the record of former Broncos QB John Elway in 1998.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have a feeling that Elway would be fine with Manning breaking his record. Manning wants to go out the same way that Elway did; on the back of a Super Bowl Championship. Not many are picking the Broncos in this game against the Panthers, but they have the defense to shock the world. It should be a great game.

With Chip Kelly's offense, the defense is often put in bad positions as the team goes 3-and-out on the other side. O'Neil's defense fell apart in 2015 after having a decent 2014 season. We have a feeling the 49ers defense could be among the worst in the league in 2016.

                    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Clifton Brown

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent WR Kamar Aiken is expected to be re-signed this offseason, according to Clifton Brown of CSNMidAtlantic.com.

This has to be an easy call for the WR-starved Ravens. Steve Smith is returning in 2016, and Breshad Perriman is going to be back after missing his entire rookie season in 2015. That makes Aiken the favorite for the team's WR3 going forward.

Buffalo Bills DT Kyle Williams (knee) is expected to be ready for training camp, according to general manager Doug Whaley. Williams is recovering from meniscus surgery.

Williams is an important player up front on the Bills defense. Don't be surprised if the Bills hold him out of the entire offseason program due to this injury. They could ramp him up later in training camp if Williams is on track to be ready for Week 1.

CAR - OLB Thomas Davis healing

                    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Carolina Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) is 'healing nicely,' according to head coach Ron Rivera. Davis guaranteed that he would play in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos.

Our very own Dr. Jene Bramel believes that Davis should be able to play barring any setbacks. This injury is not in any area that would impede the range of motion in his arm or wrist. Davis is a stud, and he should be ready to go for Super Bowl 50.

                    DEN - S T.J. Ward aggravated injury

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos FS T.J. Ward (ankle) re-aggravated an ankle sprain in the AFC Championship against the New England Patriots, but he should still play in Super Bowl 50, according to a source.

We had a feeling that was a re-aggravation for Ward. He missed three games (Week 13-15) earlier in the season with this ankle problem. With two weeks to rest before Super Bowl 50, we feel confident that Ward will be able to start and be close enough to full strength.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles' development to go faster

                    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will have his development accelerated, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who said he and the Jaguars are comfortable enough with the quarterback to do so.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles had a breakout 2015 regular season, finishing the year with 4,428 passing yards and 35 touchdowns. That was good to finish as the 4th-best QB last season in standard-scoring leagues. Even with the breakout season, Bortles has plenty of improvements he can make. He can start by throwing fewer interceptions (18 in 2015), taking fewer sacks (51 in 2015) and completing a higher percentage of his passes (58.6 percent in 2015).

DET - No timetable for WR Calvin Johnson decision

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson does not have a timetable on a decision to retire or not, according to Johnson's agent.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson has earned the right to take as long as he wants. The Lions need to get back on the winning track after a disappointing 2015 season, and having Johnson out there would help them do that. If he doesn't retire, the Lions may ask Johnson to take a pay cut. Under contract through 2019, Johnson is due $15.95 million next season.

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek signed a three-year, $13 million extension Tuesday, Jan. 26, which includes $6 million guaranteed, according to sources.

The Eagles have now locked down both of their tight ends. On Monday, Zach Ertz signed a five-year, $42.5 million deal with $20 million in guarantees. Now, the team keep Celek around for a reasonable price. New head coach Doug Pederson is bringing the West Coast offense back to the Eagles, and both tight ends were important to the plans for 2016. Ertz will be the most fantasy relevant of the two as he's the best receiver, but Celek will continue to work well as the in-line blocker.

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford would like to stay in Philadelphia, according to Eagles TE Zach Ertz. 'I think he's excited,' Ertz said. 'He wants to be in Philadelphia.' New head coach Doug Pederson said last week that Bradford is a top-notch quarterback that would fit his system well.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like both sides want to work things out. With Pederson taking over as head coach, the Eagles are going to run a timing-based West Coast offense. That's perfect for the type of quarterback that Bradford is.

                    Source: ESPN.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is under contract for the 2016 season and carries a salary cap charge of $21.5 million, which is larger than his cap figure last year when the Broncos asked him to take a pay cut. Manning has said that he won't make a decision about 2016 until this season is over.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning only gets that salary if he passes a physical before the start of the new league year. We could see Manning retiring if he wins Super Bowl 50, but he may also retire if the team loses. Manning is nearing the end, and we've all been blessed to see one of the all-time greats play.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning iffy against ball hawks

                    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning delivered a mixed bag against the Kansas City Chiefs this season, who ranked second in the NFL with 22 interceptions. He was 26-for-45 (57.8%) for 256 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against them in Week 2. He had a miserable game against them Nov. 15, when he was 5-for-20 (25.0%) for 35 yards and four interceptions. The Carolina Panthers, his Super Bowl opponent, led the league with 24 interceptions.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers are going to bring pressure, and while Manning is a bit more mobile since recovered from his foot injury he could be under duress quite often. The Broncos receivers are going to have to stop dropping passes, and on any contested catch they'll need to make sure they rip the ball away.

CAR - QB Cam Newton performed when pressured

                    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton was sacked four or more times twice in the 2015 season, and his numbers didn't suffer. He was 21-for-25 (84.0%) for 217 yards and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans, who sacked him four times in Week 10. He was 21-for-26 (80.8%) for 293 yards and two touchdowns while being sacked five times in Week 17 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He didn't throw an interception in either game. The Denver Broncos, Newton's Super Bowl opponent, led the NFL with 53 sacks this season.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is going to be a problem for the Broncos defense. If they get too far upfield when rushing, Newton can just gash them as a runner. If they don't get to Newton, then he can take some deep shots with guys like WR Ted Ginn Jr.

NE - New England likely to add at RB

                    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB James White played 57 of the 83 offensive snaps in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 24, and RB Brandon Bolden played 16. RB Steven Jackson rounded things out with 11 snaps. The team will also get RB Dion Lewis (knee) back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in 2016, while RB LeGarrette Blount is an impending free agent. The team might face an offseason similar to 2011 when the selected a pair of backs in the NFL Draft.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adding more weapons to the offense is a great idea. The team just wasn't the same after Lewis was lost for the season. Blount is okay, but he's a one-dimensional back who gets banged up. Lewis looked great in 2015 before getting hurt, but the Patriots need better options available and better competition in the backfield. Look for them to add a back in the draft or through a rich free agent class.

DET - RB Joique Bell feeling good into offseason

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell said Monday, Jan. 25, that he is primed for a rebound in 2016, as he feels healthier entering the offseason than he has in year. 'Going into my third year, I had a pretty good season. I feel probably just as good now as I felt then. So I really have an offseason when I can train the way I want to train and get after it,' Bell said.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dynasty owners shouldn't feel too good about Bell. The team drafted Ameer Abdullah last year, and while some think he's nothing more than a change-of-pace back we could see Abdullah get a shot to be more. Abdullah looks like the lead back for the Lions in 2016, making Bell more of the part-time player.

                    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (finger) is expected to bounce back to lead the team in 2016, general manager Steve Keim said in a radio interview Monday, Jan. 25. 'There is nobody I respect and appreciate more than Carson Palmer,' Keim said. 'In a league full of teams who are looking for a quarterback, I'm certainly proud he's our guy.'

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Head coach Bruce Arians would not blame the finger injury on Palmer's rocky performance in the NFC Championship Game. However, Palmer clearly wasn't right and off his game. Like Keim, we're expecting Palmer to bounce back in 2016.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart and RB Mike Tolbert were not at the portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Jan. 27.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no need to wear Stewart out before the big game. The Panthers kept Stewart out of action for weeks so they could unleash him in the postseason. They've done just that, and Stewart has looked great. However, against a tough Broncos defense we're not expecting the Panthers to have much success on the ground. QB Cam Newton could end the game as the team's leading rusher.

We'll see if this deep threat can attack the Broncos secondary on those long routes. We'll also see if the Panthers can give QB Cam Newton that much time to throw against the Broncos defense.

Washington Redskins impending free-agent QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be re-signed this offseason, and general manager Scot McCloughan prefers signing him to a long-term deal instead of giving their quarterback the franchise tag. A long-term deal would be in the $17-20 million range, according to McCloughan, while Washington would have to pay Cousins about $20 million if they were to tag him.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins is about ready to get paid....and in a big way. We could see Washington sign him to a new long-term deal around the $20 million range. The team seems to have found their franchise quarterback, but they may put some clauses in the contract that can get them out from under Cousins if he doesn't continue to flourish.

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III may not know if he'll be released or not until early March, according to general manager Scot McCloughan. The league-wide date on which teams can begin placing players on waivers is March 9.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd be shocked to see Griffin stay with Washington. Griffin's $16 million option becomes fully guaranteed on the first day of the new league year (March 9th), and we think the team moves on before that deadline.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he doesn't feel pressured to draft a quarterback in 2016 as QB Tony Romo's heir apparent. 'There are many options,' Jones said. 'There's free agency ... We have to (draft a QB) to do what? We have to win a Super Bowl next year? Do we have to compete for a Super Bowl in the future? Do you have to have it in place after this draft? There's no have-to here, in my mind, because we have the luxury of having Romo here for three, four, five more years.'

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They may not draft a quarterback, but we feel the Cowboys will add a better backup somehow this offseason. That may include adding second-chance guys like Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel if they're available. The Cowboys can go far with Romo, but they need insurance for if he gets hurt again.

Our very own Dr. Jene Bramel notes a couple of things here. First; the location of the injury is not in a spot where it will hinder his movement. Second; Davis is a tough player who has dealt with a lot more severe injuries before. This basically comes down to a pain-tolerance issue, and we think Davis will be able to play in Super Bowl 50.

                            Source: Spotrac.com

Indianapolis Colts impending free-agent TE Coby Fleener will be entering free agency as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fleener has scored 17 touchdowns in his four-year career. He's been splitting time with Dwayne Allen, and now he may want to move on for a chance to be 'the man' for a different team. The Colts may want to bring Fleener back if the price is right.

DEN - Will Denver's running backs stay?

                            Source: Spotrac.com

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RBs Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson are both slated to become free agents this offseason. Anderson, however, will be a restricted free agent, so he'll be easier to bring back than Hillman, who will be an unrestricted free agent.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson should be back, and so long as he's healthy he can be an effective starter. The Broncos have been grooming Kapri Bibbs (deep dynasty alert), and we could see him finally make the active roster in 2016. The Broncos may let Hillman move on in free agency, and the Bears or the Dolphins could show interest. Without Hillman, we could see the Broncos make a move to add another running back in free agency or through the draft.

DEN - OLB Von Miller biggest free agent

                            Source: Spotrac.com

Denver Broncos impending free-agent LB Von Miller figures to be at the top of the Broncos' priority list this offseason, especially coming off a dominating performance in the AFC Championship. Denver's other big-name impending free agents on defense include DE Malik Jackson and LB Danny Trevathan.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're expecting Miller to get the franchise tag when possible. Then, the Broncos would have until mid-July to get a long-term contract done with Miller. With his play in the postseason, Miller is in line to be the next $100 million linebacker.

BUF - WR Robert Woods losing starting job?

                            Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods was mentioned in a group of wide receivers by general manager Doug Whaley who are considered not to be No. 2 receivers. Whaley said the Bills have a mix of guys who may not be bona fide No. 2 receivers, but who they can use in different roles.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills will add more competition to the position this offseason. That's good for them, and it's likely a bad thing for Woods. Dynasty owners should be ready to move on.

Good news for Blount here as he is expected to hit free agency. We feel pretty confident that Blount is going to return to the Patriots on a cheap deal. It's a good move for both sides.

DAL - QB Tony Romo's injuries a concern?

                            Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo's (collarbone) injuries are a concern, especially as he ages, according to former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman. 'I think the collarbone certainly is a concern,' Aikman said. 'He's broken it now three times in, I believe, the last five years. As you mentioned, they're going to go in, they're going to put a plate in. That should strengthen it, is that going to be enough? I don't know.'

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Why is there a question mark in the headline? Of course the Cowboys are concerned with Romo's injuries. They need to find a better backup option just in case Romo gets hurt again this year.

Seattle Seahawks OT Russell Okung (shoulder) will have surgery to repair his dislocated left shoulder soon and should be fully cleared for activities in five months.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Okung has not played a full 16-game season in his entire pro career. A first-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, Okung is a free agent in 2016 and should be facing an cooler market due to his injury history.

BUF - Buffalo GM hesitant about QB class

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley doesn't really see a quarterback from the 2016 draft class that would be ready to step into a starting role in the NFL immediately. 'I think it's a deep crop and I think it's a crop that's going to need some time,' Whaley said. 'Now, it depends on their situation, who takes them and what they do. But I would say it's not as top-heavy as last year where those top two guys would still be the top two guys. How quickly these guys can matriculate into the league, I think it's going to take a little bit of time. Maybe a year, maybe a half of a year.'

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd summarize this QB class as good but not great. We like Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) and Jared Goff (California) in the 2016 NFL draft class. Both should be first-round picks, and we should also see guys like Connor Cook (Michigan State) and Paxton Lynch (Memphis) go on the first day of the draft. All four have positives and negatives, but there's not really a clear-cut top prospect at the position.

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) will undergo surgery on his left shoulder to repair a torn labrum Wednesday, Jan. 27. He injured the shoulder in Week 13 and finished the season.

Thompson is an exciting player with the ball in his hands. However, he's a smaller back who gets dinged up too much. He'll compete to be the team's change-of-pace back in training camp.

Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Jan. 28.

The Panthers want all hands on deck next week, and the strength of the passing offense comes from the variety of players they can use (along with Cam Newton's unreal abilities). Brown is coming off a huge day and while we won't bet on him replicating that, we do think he will have a big part of the offense.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has improved as a pocket passer since his rookie season in 2011. In his first year, he had 20 touchdowns and 16 interceptions from the pocket, compared to 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions from the pocket in 2015. Newton has 21 touchdowns and two interceptions from the pocket in the last 10 games.

TEN - Balanced offense for Titans?

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota will lead what new offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie wants to be a balanced offense next season. Robiskie said the Titans will try to have a balance of run and pass, but that the run-pass ratio would be determined game by game. The new coordinator also said he expects Mariota to make a smooth transition into a redesigned offense, which he promised not to complicate too much for his sophomore quarterback.

                                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It an't all be about Mariota of course, and he needs more weapons of all types around him. We'll see what the team really does in free agency and the draft, both areas where they must do well if they are really to pursue the offensive balance they want.

Naturally the Steelers want Bell to remain in Pittsburgh. While running back has largely become a replaceable position, Bell is that rare back who is nearly impossible to replace. We expect him to get back to 100 percent and be one of the better backs in the NFL next year.

'A plate and probably around 11 or 12 screws in my arm right now,' Davis added. 'It is what it is.' Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor threw for 3,035 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and six interceptions in his first season as a starter after spending four years as a little-used backup for the Baltimore Ravens. The first-time Pro Bowler, who added 568 yards and four more touchdowns as a runner, hopes 2015 was the first of many seasons in western New York.

The Bills are excited by the Pro Bowl quarterback but don't want to repeat the mistake they've made before of overpaying just because a guy had one good season. They'll try to reach an agreement that limits their exposure while Taylor tries to get as much money as possible. he has to know the market is limited though, so we think they come to terms, though it may not happen for some time.

Raji really came on the last few seasons, so the Packers are wise to lock him up. It might be the best fit for both sides.

Ohio State WR Braxton Miller has impressed at Senior Bowl practices this week, and he had an informal meeting with the Atlanta Falcons. 'I would love to come help out Julio (Jones) in Atlanta,' Miller told ESPN.com. 'I would love to wear the red and black.' Miller is projected to go in the second or third round of the draft this year.

Footballguys had multiple staff members in Mobile, and all came away impressed with Miller's ability and aggressiveness. He finished the week of practice on a great note, frustrating the defensive backs so much there that things got chippy. Miller is still a bit raw but talked about how he is willing to do everything he needs to reach his potential. He could go as early as the second round right now.

The Carolina Panthers and QB Cam Newton ran the ball by design on 46% of their offensive plays this year, which was highest in the NFL. The Denver Broncos allowed just 3.28 yards per rush in 2015, which was the fewest in the NFL.

Newton is very hard to stop once he gets going, so why not take advantage of it? His mobility will be a key in how Super Bowl 50 plays out.

Cleveland Browns new head coach Hue Jackson has yet to meet with QB Johnny Manziel, and Manziel hasn't tried to reach out to the team's new head coach in the two weeks since he's been hired. 'There's no rhyme or reason why I haven't talked to him, but it's just the process I'm in right now. I'm just kind of picking the guys as I go,' Jackson said. Jackson has studied tape of Manziel and knows that he's athletic and can succeed in the NFL, but he suggested that talent alone doesn't make a quarterback.

It's likely to be an awkward conversation which will sound a lot like "We're letting you go" so maybe everyone is just putting it off. Manziel could end up in Dallas with the Cowboys or another spot in the NFL, but we don't expect him to remain in Cleveland.

Forte is 30 years old, so they won't want to invest a ton in him, especially with Jeremy Langford performing well last season. Forte will likely have to take a minimal contract elsewhere and prove that the age won't impact his ability.

Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo finished the day Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Senior Bowl practice showing his route running is better than expected. He also displayed soft, strong hands while using his big frame to block out defenders for the reception.

                                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Carroo does a good job of using his hands to separate at the line of scrimmage. He's got the concentration to catch off-target passes consistently, and Carroo is a willing run-blocker. He's shown the capability of running multiple routes, and this versatility will help his draft stock.

North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz performed well at Senior Bowl practice Tuesday, Jan. 26, despite poor weather conditions. He displayed the best arm strength while throwing with great velocity, and he was not affected by sloppy conditions or wind.

                                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is one of our favorite QBs in this draft class. There's a good chance the Cleveland Browns strongly consider him at no2 overall in the 2016 NFL draft. Went is big, athletic, can throw accurately on the run and he's got the arm strength to make all the throws in the NFL.

TB - TB talking extension with RB Doug Martin

                                    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and RB Doug Martin's representatives have started discussing a contract extension. Martin, who is slated to be a free agent in 2016, finished second for the league rushing title behind Adrian Peterson. He also scored six touchdowns. If the team cannot work out an extension they do not plan on using the franchise tag on him.

                                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin had a bounce-back year in 2015 after two seasons of disappointment. He can be the workhorse for the Bucs offense, and his play helps establish the offense. In four years, Martin has finished as the 3rd-best fantasy running back twice (2012, 2015). So long as he's healthy, Martin is a proven top-5 player for fantasy owners.

White is looking at a likely pay cut if he's even going to make the team. He's got a $4.25 million cap number in 2016, and White has previously stated that he is unwilling to take a pay cut. He's not the same player he used to be, and we'd be shocked if they kept White on the roster with his current price tag.

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't expect any major changes in the offensive philosophy in 2016, and he added that he expects QB Tony Romo back and ready to go for the start of the season.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo should be ready to go in 2016, and fantasy owners should consider him a low-end QB1 with injury risk. His propensity to get injured is the reason why we think the Cowboys will look to add a better backup QB through the draft or free agency.

That's not much, so expect the team to re-work some deals or cut certain players to clear some cap space. Ivory is going to face a free agent market chock full of good running backs. We have a feeling the Jets will be able to work something out with him.

San Francisco 49ers chief executive officer Jed York can see QB Colin Kaepernick winning his starting job back in 2016 if he is healthy. 'There's no question in my mind,' York replied. 'I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap. Kap's a great kid, he's done a lot of great things for us. And again, this is a fresh start for everybody.'

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kaepernick has the athleticism to fit into Chip Kelly's system. However, he needs to prove that he can make quick decisions and accurate throws as a passer in order to flourish. The Kelly system is somewhat simple, and mainly uses tempo as a weapon. They'll leave a defender unblocked opposite play side, and that's where Kaepernick's athleticism should be able to freeze that player on the edge. If Kaepernick doesn't throw accurately, then teams will respect his rushing ability less and try to force a quick throw.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has not shown any decline in his play and is expected to play several more seasons, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team is not looking to start grooming their next starting quarterback at this point.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're a year or two away from any sort of "quarterback of the future" being added by the Steelers...maybe even longer. So long as Roethlisberger is healthy-ish, he can be a quality starter. The Steelers can go far with Roethlisberger, and they were only stunted this year in the postseason due to injuries (Antonio Brown, DeAngelo Williams to name two) at other positions.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant has room to grow

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has the chance to become a better player but needs to avoid any off-field problems this offseason, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team hopes Bryant's four-game suspension to start the 2015 season will have an impact on him.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has amazing natural talent, but he needs to stay out of trouble off the field and be more consistent on the field. We'll see if he can continue to flourish and grow as a player in 2016. He ranked as the 32nd-highest fantasy WR this year in standard scoring, but Bryant has the ability to be a top-15 player if he plays up to his potential.

CLE - Carson Wentz worthy of No. 2 pick?

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

A top NFL personnel executive suggested this week that the Cleveland Browns should take North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The interest in Wentz from the Browns is real. They need a new quarterback after the failed Johnny Manziel experiment, and Wentz may be the best QB in the 2016 NFL draft. Wentz impressed on film with good size, athleticism and arm strength. He's done a good job of continuing to impress during the week of practice for the 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl this week too.

TB - WR Mike Evans led league in drops in 2015

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers new offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Todd Monken stated in his introductory news conference that is top priority will be to coach the team's receivers. His top priority will be finding a way to cut down on WR Mike Evans' league-leading 11 drops.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans had a disappointing season in 2015. Not only did he drop too many passes, Evans struggled to create separation or make many big plays. We have a good feeling that Evans will bounce back in a big way in 2016.

Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to five-year, $46 million extension Friday, Jan. 29, with $20.5 million guaranteed. He's the second-highest paid tight end in the league.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelce is now the second-highest paid tight end in the NFL behind only Jimmy Graham (Seahawks). We still have yet to see the best from Kelce in the NFL. He's finished as the 7th- and 8th-best fantasy tight end his first two years in the league, but he's got the ability to at least to a top-5 player someday.

NFL - Braxton Miller displayed moves

                                      Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Ohio State WR Braxton Miller (calf) helped his draft stock at the Senior Bowl before a calf cramp ended his practice early Thursday, Jan. 28. Miller showed quick moves and juked opposing cornerbacks often. He gained separation on nearly every route he ran and showed great hands.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller has looked good as a route-runner, but he needs to learn how to play better against tight coverage. He also should play with a bit more composure. Twice in Thursday's practice, Miller got a little hyper with the corner who was covering him and the two had to be split up.

TB - WR Vincent Jackson returning

                                      Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson will return to the team in 2016. The Buccaneers were 4-4 with him and 2-6 without him in the lineup in 2015.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson has a $9.7 million cap hit next year, and he's set to be a free agent in 2017. The Bucs may ask him to take a pay cut or extend him to lower that number for 2016. However, they could just pay him the full price and see if the veteran can stay healthy in a contract year. Jackson can obviously be a big part of what they do on offense, and his presence helps out young WR Mike Evans.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel situation fixable?

                                      Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam thinks the situation with QB Johnny Manziel is fixable. However, new head coach Hue Jackson made it clear when he interviewed for the job that he wanted the team to move on from Manziel, according to a source. Haslam has been non-committal about Manziel's future.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fixable isn't the word we would use to describe the Browns relationship with Manziel. It's likely best for both sides to move on. Manziel has maturity issues, but on the field he has briefly flashed starter's ability. Perhaps a team like Dallas would be interested in grooming Manziel to be an eventual starter. Stay tuned.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest) and RB Mike Tolbert (knee) did little-to-no work at practice Friday, Jan. 29, but RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) returned to practice.

The duo has some time to rest before things ramp up. Super Bowl 50 features the Panthers going up against a tough Broncos run defense. We're not expecting a ton from either back, and there's a chance that QB Cam Newton could finish the game as the team's leading rusher.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill will run an offense under new offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen that resembles what QB Peyton Manning ran with the Indianapolis Colts.

With new head coach Adam Gase, we're really excited by what the Dolphins offense could be. They should be able to get the best out of QB Ryan Tannehill, and that makes WRs Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker even more exciting fantasy options for the 2016 season. Using tempo as a weapon and improving the play from the defense could make the Dolphins an exciting team to watch.

According to sources, Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent DE Greg Hardy is not expected to be re-signed by the team due to excessive partying.

Should anyone be shocked by this? Hardy is already a handful because of the baggage and reputation he comes with. Excessive partying and still being a problem when the Cowboys gave him a second chance is not going to help his chances of staying with the team. But as the story notes, Hardy was still an effective player when he was on the field.

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford could hit the open market if the team believes there is a franchise quarterback available in the 2016 NFL Draft.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles have been spending some money to extend guys like OT Lane Johnson, TE Zach Ertz and TE Brent Celek. The future of Bradford is up in the air. There have been multiple reports about him staying with the team if the price if right. Bradford could fit well under new head coach Doug Pederson, but his contract would have to be structured correctly and take into account his injury history. There are some mock drafts out there that have North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz (a potential franchise QB) falling to the Eagles at 13th overall. Stay tuned.

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (Achilles') has been in the team's facilities working hard on his rehab, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foster is known as a hard-worker, so it's no surprise to learn that he's working hard to come back. He's got a $6.5 million cap hit in 2016, and Foster is set to hit free agency in 2017. There's a chance the Texans decide to let the veteran go due to his price tag. If Foster is on the open market, we feel a team like the Broncos would make a move to add him.

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones won't necessarily be the workhorse back in 2016 if RB Alfred Morris leaves in free agency because the team isn't sure Jones can fix everything he needs to over one offseason in order to become a lead back.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is an exciting playmaker because of his size/speed combination. However, fumbling and consistency seem to be a problem for the young runner. We expect Washington to add another back in the mix via the draft or free agency if Morris moves on.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller likely will be back with the team next year, despite carrying a cap hit of $7.2 million, according to beat writer Ed Bouchette.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bouchette is the best Steelers beat writer there is, and if he says Miller will return with that big cap number we believe it. Miller is not the same player he used to be, but he's a favorite target of QB Ben Roethlisberger and may retire a Steeler. Watch to see if Jesse James gets worked more into the mix with Miller aging and slowing down.

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't expect any major changes in the offensive philosophy in 2016, and he added that he expects QB Tony Romoback and ready to go for the start of the season.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo should be ready to go in 2016, and fantasy owners should consider him a low-end QB1 with injury risk. His propensity to get injured is the reason why we think the Cowboys will look to add a better backup QB through the draft or free agency.

You think they need to add a quality back-up QB ??

New England Patriots TE Scott Chandler could interest the New York Jets if he's cut as he put up good numbers with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey with the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets have to find better answers at the tight end position. Guys like Jace Amaro and Zach Sudfeld aren't the answer, but a guy like Chandler could be. Chandler has a big frame and can box out smaller defenders for the football. We'll see if he's available this offseason.

CLE - QB Josh McCown could be cleared soon

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (collarbone) said his recover from a broken collarbone is going well. His recovery is on schedule and he hopes to be cleared soon to work out.

Expect the Browns to add a quarterback through the draft or free agency. Reports indicate their interest in North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz is real. We could see them select Wentz with the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. McCown should be ready to rock by the time training camp rolls around, but the situation around him is likely to be different from what we saw last year.

NE - Bengals receivers of interest to Patriots?

                                              Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent WRs Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu could be targets for the New England Patriots this offseason, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Reiss believes Jones' route-running ability would translate well in New England's offensive system, and that Sanu could draw interest as an alumnus of the Rutgers, a program for which the Patriots have high regard.

The Patriots have to upgrade the WR position. They need to move on from Brandon LaFell, and adding either Marvin Jones or Mohamed Sanu would be the necessary upgrade.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend Saturday, Jan. 30. Manziel was not arrested, but police made an information report regarding the incident.

A spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Police Department said police were still gathering information and that they will release more information later. Manziel and his girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute in October of last year, but no arrests were made then, either.

Denver Broncos FS T.J. Ward (ankle) and FS Darian Stewart (knee) expect to play in Super Bowl 50 even though they are dealing with injuries. Both players are currently listed as questionable for the game.

No question both of these players will play in Super Bowl 50. The only question is; how effective will they be dealing with these injuries?

MIA - CB Adam Jones, S Reggie Nelson may be targets

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent CB Adam Jones and FS Reggie Nelson could receive interest from the Miami Dolphins this offseason since defensive coordinator Vance Joseph worked with them when he was part of the Bengals.

We're expecting the Dolphins to be much improved on both sides of the ball. However, they're going to have to get creative with salaries if they want to even be a little bit active in free agency. As of right now (according to OverTheCap.com), the Dolphins only have $2.6 million in cap space. That number will change with player cuts and potential contract restructures.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson sets lofty goals

                                              Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson said expectations for the offense are high for 2016, and he added that he wants to improve on his numbers from 2015.

                                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Those goals have to be through the roof. Robinson had 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015 as the Jaguars primary receiver. That made him the 4th-best fantasy WR in standard-scoring leagues.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers had knee surgery

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (knee) had knee surgery following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round of the playoffs, but he said he is 'doing well' and 'recovering on schedule.'

This procedure was described as a minor clean up of an old injury. Rodgers should be fine for training camp, but don't be surprised if the team limits him in OTAs and minicamp as he continues to recover.
