NO - RB C.J. Spiller will not play in opener
    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport
New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller (knee) will not play in the regular season opener Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Arizona Cardinals as he is recovering from a minor knee surgery, a source said Tuesday, Sept. 8. He is likely to return for Week 2 and beyond.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
As is often the case, the team was overly optimistic on Spiller's return date. Let's see how he does for next week.

GB - WR James Jones ahead of WR Jeff Janis
    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones is listed ahead of WR Jeff Janis on the Packers' depth chart.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Dynasty owners take note here..in addition to re-draft owners who took a late-round flier in deeper leagues. Jones knows the system well, and he's likely to cut into the targets for guys like Ty Montgomery, as well as a little of Davante Adams' balls.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery progressing
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is making strides with his calf injury and hopes to play against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He'd better because if he doesn't it's Martellus Bennett, Matt Forte and a bunch of random players (the best of which is Eddie Royal) as targets for Jay Cutler. Cutler remains a decent QB2, with Forte a nice RB2 play and Bennett is a solid TE1 but Forte and Bennett may score high based solely on the fact that there isn't much else for Cutler to work with. Color us concerned overall.

SEA - RB Fred Jackson could play a lot

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Fred Jackson ran with the starting offense Monday, Sept. 7, in place of RB Marshawn Lynch, who was tending to a personal matter. Head coach Peter Carroll said Jackson picked up the offense effortlessly and that Jackson will 'play a lot' in the Week 1 opener against the St. Louis Rams. Jackson will step into the role of former RB Robert Turbin. Carroll sees Jackson having a key role in third-down situations, both blocking and receiving.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Maybe Lynch had a stomach ache from too many Skittles. We know Jackson has at least a little left in the tank and he's a more than serviceable second running back for the Seahawks. But don't get carried away as we don't expect Lynch (who projects as a solid RB1 this week) to spend time on the bench. Carroll has to know Lynch is the engine that runs this offense (even with Jimmy Graham in the house) and the last time that engine was on the sideline, it arguably cost the Seahawks a Super Bowl.

ATL - RB Tevin Coleman listed as starter
Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter
Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman is listed as the Week 1 starter over RB Devonta Freeman on the team's official depth chart.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Which doesn't mean that a) he'll get the majority of the carries or 2) that it will amount to anything if he does. We're concerned about the offensive line and don't know what to expect from the breakdown of carries. Coleman is no more than an RB3 right now, though it could bounce up a little if Devonta Freeman is hurt come this weekend.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy does solo work
    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia
Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) did individual drills in practice Tuesday, Sept. 8.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
He did this before the holiday weekend, so while it's encouraging, it's not new. Watch Wednesday and see if he does something more, like teamwork. We have him as a tentative RB4 right now, but we could see him move up a bit into the realm of RB3.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon the starter
Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long
Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon is listed as the starter over RB Denard Robinson on the depth chart.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's a little of a surprise, as many people felt Denard Robinson would get the nod given a pretty solid preseason. Yeldon is a decent RB3 in a tough spot against the Carolina Panthers. Robinson ends up being a 'oh my goodness how did I end up with three injured running backs on my team' emergency start and likely no more than an RB5.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins ready to play
    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown
Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (glute) said he believes he's ready to play in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. 'For the most part it's just about getting mentally and physically prepared for this game and enduring some physical battles,' Watkins said. 'So I think I'm in shape. I'm ready to go.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We love the natural ability that Watkins has. We don't love the QB situation in Buffalo, but we are intrigued by what Tyrod Taylor can bring to the table. We'll see if the Bills can be more productive through the air than we think.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson the No. 2 RB in AZ
Source: FOX Sports Radio 910 - Mike Jurecki
Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is listed as the No. 2 running back behind RB Andre Ellington on the Cardinals' depth chart. Rookie RB David Johnson is listed as the third option ahead of RB Stepfan Taylor.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson has a similar skill set to Ellington, and the team won't have to change the playbook much if CJ?K comes onto the field. Johnson is a good--not great--all-around talent, and Taylor is only an average backup at best.

NE - WR Julian Edelman not on injury report
    Source: Patriots.com
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (ankle) was not listed on the Patriots' injury report for Monday, Sept. 7, or Tuesday, Sept. 8.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's the Patriots, so who really knows what's up with anybody. However, it is a good sign that Edelman is not on the injury report.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz ready at least for Week 2?
Source: New York Daily News - Ebenezer Samuel
New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) said if he is not able to play in Week 1 that he will be on the field for Week 2 or Week 3 and beyond.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This calf problem has really set Cruz back. All signs indicated he was on track to return from his knee injury, but then he hurt his calf. At this point, fantasy owners are going to have to wait for Cruz to be on the practice field before even considering him for a fantasy lineup.

MIA - MIA signs RB Jonas Gray to PS
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Free-agent RB Jonas Gray (Patriots) signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Jonas Gray started his pro career as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins in 2012. Now, he finds himself back in the spot he started--the Miami practice squad.

STL - RB Tre Mason doesn't practice
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas
St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Sept. 8.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Just avoid this situation. We know Todd Gurley is not going to play in Week 1, and this hamstring injury could severely limit Mason--if he even plays against the Seahawks. Benny Cunningham could be the team's lead back in Week 1....and that's not great for fantasy owners.

Let's not forget he did put up those numbers against a team that cannot stop any team from running all over them.

                  Thursday Update

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy may not be limited

                  Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) may not be limited much in Week 1, as head coach Rex Ryan joked McCoy's pitch count would be '100.'

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan should not be flippant when it comes to managing his best playmaker at running back. McCoy can be the centerpiece of this offense, but hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated properly.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden likely to start
Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is likely to start Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 13, but the team doesn't have a pitch count on him and RB Joseph Randle.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy alert! McFadden has talent, but he's one of those players who struggles to stay healthy with a large role. If he can hang onto the starting job, then McFadden could perform like a RB2 with upside. However, he's always in danger of getting banged up and the team could turn to a guy like Christine Michael when he's up to speed in this offense. Also note that this is just Clarence Hill's opinion on McFadden starting. Other sources like Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News expects Joseph Randle to see the majority of the action. So even if McFadden does get the start, expect to see a hot hand type approach.

GB - WR Randall Cobb practices

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) participated in all individual drills during practice Wednesday, Sept. 9, including punt and kickoff returns.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's good to go people. Make sure Cobb is in your lineup as a WR1 in Week 1--and every week that he's healthy.

IND - RB Frank Gore will be limited

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore will be on a pitch count early in the season to keep him fresh for a playoff run, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore may be on a play count, but he can still produce like a steady RB2 for fantasy owners. We love the talent on the Colts offense, and this team will need Gore to soften up defenses. He's a RB2 with upside every week.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery practices some

                  Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) practiced some Wednesday, Sept. 9, but was not in full pads.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears are being super secretive about injuries under new head coach John Fox. They've taken a page from the Patriots--but they won't win like the Patriots do. Things could be very ugly for the Bears this season. Fantasy owners should not rely on Jeffery in Week 1--even if he does play.

PHI - TE Zach Ertz says he's a game-time call

Source: The Delaware County Times - Martin Frank

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz (groin) said he's a game-time decision for Week 1 because he's at the end of the third week of a four-to-six week injury.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to make other plans here.

DAL - RB Christine Michael a backup plan

                  Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Dallas Cowboys RB Christine Michael was acquired as a backup plan due to RB Darren McFadden's injury history and RB Joseph Randle's inexperience, according to sources.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michael has talent--always has, but lack of focus and maturity have plagued his football career...even dating back to his days at Texas A&M. We'll see if the light comes on for Michael now that he's with the Cowboys.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd limited

                  Source: NFL

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (hand) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an injury situation fantasy owners want to be dialed in on. With Floyd unlikely to be at full strength, we like John Brown as a WR3 with upside (at least) in Week 1.

SD - TE Ladarius Green could have concussion

                  Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) is being evaluated for a concussion Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for the Chargers here. They're already going to be without Antonio Gates for a month due to a suspension. If Green misses time, they'll be especially short-handed at the position. He'll have to go through the league's protocol for concussions if he's going to play in Week 1. His status is certainly in doubt.

NO - RB C.J. Spiller sits out practice

                  Source: NFL

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Spiller is unlikely to play in Week 1. That means we'll see Khiry Robinson in as the team's change-of-pace back. We like Robinson as a cheap play in GPP games in DFS. For season-long fantasy owners in PPR leagues, Robinson is a "what the heck" flex.

NYJ - RB Chris Ivory practices fully

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Jets here. Ivory is the lead back for the team, and we like him as a RB2 with upside. He's worked to develop his game, and Ivory may be a three-down back for the Jets this season.

CLE - Two CLE WRs limited Wednesday

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WRs Dwayne Bowe (hamstring) and Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) were limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners aren't considering (or shouldn't be) either one for their lineups in Week 1.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson limited in practice

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (head) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation. Johnson is a talented rookie who can work well as a change-of-pace back when healthy.

CHI - Two more Chicago WRs limited

                  Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WRs Eddie Royal (hip) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) were limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're unsure of the playing status of Alshon Jeffery at this time. If he plays, and is limited, then that could open the door for guys like Royal and Wilson to be more involved as pass-catchers.

WAS - Robert Griffin waiting on status

                  Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) still doesn't know if he'll be the backup or third-string quarterback in Week 1. Griffin and the Redskins are awaiting the results of the quarterback's neurological exam. Griffin was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things have taken a turn downwards for the young quarterback. If Griffin is cleared to play, head coach Jay Gruden will decide between Griffin and QB Colt McCoy for the No. 2 and No. 3 quarterback spots. We imagine that in Week 1 (at least), McCoy would win that backup spot...making Griffin inactive.

OAK - RB Roy Helu listed as third RB

Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders RB Roy Helu is listed as the No. 3 running back behind RBs Latavius Murray and Taiwan Jones.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting move by the Raiders here. Helu could work well as a pass-catching back, but it could actually be Jones in that role. Jones has switched back and forth between running back and cornerback. He's back at running back, and Jones has obviously impressed the new coaching staff if he's second-string to begin the year.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel dealing with soreness

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) had some soreness in his elbow after practice Monday, Sept. 7, 'but that was expected,' according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel is expected to be good to go for Week 1.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pettine said this elbow isn't a serious issue, but this soreness is something that has bothered Manziel all the way back to high school. That sounds rather serious. We'll see if they can manage his pain. His elbow won't get too sore holding a clipboard on Sundays.

TEN - RB Bishop Sankey will get his chance

Source: The Tennessean - Jason Wolf

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey led the Titans with only 569 rushing yards and two touchdowns last year for a 3.7 yards-per-carry average. His longest run was only 22 yards and his season high was just 61 yards in a game. Sankey said he's happy he struggled in his rookie year and is more confident entering 2016. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn't want to rely too much on Sankey this year, though, and the team added RB Terrance West after rookie RB David Cobb (calf) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list. West could see significant touches as the season moves along, but Whisenhunt said it'll take time for him to learn the offense. Sankey has a prime opportunity to stake his claim to the lead-back role in the meantime.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He gets his chance because David Cobb is going to miss significant time with a calf injury. Sankey was unimpressive last year as a rookie, and we're not expecting that to change this season.

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell has improved as a pass protector, route runner and receiver, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

Crowell may have improved, but Duke Johnson is the guy they'll turn to on third downs. This lowers Crowell's value in PPR leagues.

NYG - DE Jason Pierre-Paul at odds with team

                  Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger) is reportedly at odds with the team over his readiness to play, according to sources. Pierre-Paul didn't sign his franchise tender Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Shocking report (sarcasm) right here. Since 53-man rosters have been submitted, the Giants no longer have the option of placing Pierre-Paul on the Non-Football Injury list and activating him after six games. They could apply the designation and not be obligated to pay Pierre-Paul his salary, but players put on that list at this point are not eligible to return this season.

DAL - A true committee in Dallas

                        Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is unconcerned with who is starting at running back for the team in Week 1 against the New York Giants. RP Joseph Randle has seen most of the first-team snaps over RB Darren McFadden since the spring, and Randle was taking first-team snaps again in a portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Sept. 9. However, it's clear that Dallas will go with a committee approach in the backfield with Randle, McFadden and RB Lance Dunbar seeing work. The division of labor could change game to game, half to half, quarter to quarter or series to series.

So what this means is, avoid it this weekend. Seriously, there are too many moving parts for the risk. Everyone could break out or everyone could kill each other's production. At best Darren McFadden is a flex play (up until he stubs his toe) with Joseph Randle not far behind.

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) has limited range of motion in his right shoulder as it heals, but he said he'll play Sunday, Sept. 13, in Week 1. Cobb practiced Wednesday, Sept. 9, with extra padding and protection beneath his jersey. Cobb said the 11-on-11 reps he did were valuable as he learns to understand and tolerate the pain of players hitting, bumping or making contact with his shoulder. Cobb also said his sleeping pattern has been disrupted due to the injury. 'I have to deal with this for a few weeks,' Cobb said. 'That's part of it. I'm going to do everything I can to protect myself, but I have to play fearless. I've always been a fearless player.'

This is a a concern but we still see him as a low-end WR1 this week against a Bears defense which puts the 'ug' in 'ugly.'

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart primed for big game

                        Source: ESPN.com

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will start against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, and in 2014, Jacksonville ranked 27th against the run and allowed the seventh most rushing touchdowns.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart makes for a nice RB3, with the potential to put up some RB2 numbers against Jacksonville. We wonder if he will be inspired by his former backfield buddy, DeAngelo Williams, who went off for 127 yards in Thursday's game against New England.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski in elite company

                        Source: NFL

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski caught two touchdowns in the first half against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 Thursday, Sept. 10, and his 15 games with at least two touchdowns since 2010 are tied with Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson for the most in the NFL during the stretch.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers made a bold move and chose not to cover Gronkowski, or at least it seemed that way. It didn't work out well for them as he totaled five catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers defense is every bit as bad as advertised and should be a very nice matchup for receivers and quarterbacks this season.

ARI - RB Andre Ellington set to run wild?

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington will face a New Orleans Saints defense in Week 1 that allowed the fourth most rushing yards, third most rushing touchdowns and second most yards per carry in the NFL in 2014.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could make Ellington a borderline RB1, but be safe and plug him into your second slot instead just to be safe. Even there, he will put up some very nice numbers unless the game gets away from the Cardinals early and they have to throw.

We're expecting good things from Landry as a WR2 as well as quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who could produce QB1 numbers against a poor defense.

DET - RB Joique Bell to carry the load in Week 1?

                        Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will likely receive the most carries in Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers while RB Ameer Abdullah will be used as a change-of-pace back, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A lot of people have been buying hard on Abdullah, especially in Daily Fantasy circles and this would sting. We'll have to see how it shakes out, but this pushes Bell to a solid RB3 with RB2 upside and Abdullah to a risky RB3 start at best. High upside but high risk as well.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon impressing QB Blake Bortles

                        Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is convinced RB T.J. Yeldon can be an every-down back and said he is 'excited to see what he can do with multiple carries, catches and protection.'

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars are hoping that can be true, since the Toby Gerhart signing was such a huge bust. Yeldon is a middling back this week—no more than an RB3—because of the tough Carolina defense and a shaky Jaguars offense.

HOU - RB Arian Foster may return sooner

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) could return after two or three games because of the progress in his rehab, according to sources. Foster was expected to miss four or five weeks but his timetable is fluid at this point.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see how that goes. We've heard over and over that they will not rush him, so why rush him? He would have to be in great shape at that point. If you have him on your bench, keep him there as at some point he will be back and producing excellent fantasy points.

No worries about Lynch who should be a tremendous RB1 against the St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks will likely come out hard with Lynch in response to the much criticized Super Bowl blunder.

Looks like it's Benny Cunningham time, as well as time for fans to take some antacid because Cunningham versus the Seattle front seven is going to give them upset stomachs. If you must, he's no more than an RB4. But don't do that to yourself.

They need Beason, so we'll watch this Friday. This defense is in real trouble anyway for Sunday and Dallas should have its way with them. We'd avoid starting the defense while starting Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams for the Cowboys.

Hopefully this group will be healthier by Sunday. The Colts shouldn't be terribly challenged by the Bills passing game (such as it is) but will have to be on point to slow down LeSean McCoy. The Colts defense should be an OK start this week, as chances are the Bills won't pile the points on.

Seattle Seahawks FS Earl Thomas (shoulder) will have to wear a tight harness on his surgically repaired left shoulder in Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams and likely beyond that. 'I feel like I can't high-point anything,' Thomas said, referring to his ability to reach above his head and intercept a pass.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas might not have a ton of interceptions as long as he wears the harness but he'll play and that is far more important. Thomas is one of the most vital pieces in the defense, which should spend Sunday slapping the Rams around. We'd start them without a doubt.

Even if Eli isn't 'Elite' he's a very good franchise quarterback and you pay those guys. Otherwise you end up like so many teams, desperate for a competent quarterback. Even with a big contract, the celebration will be short lived as the Dallas Cowboys should be surging past his offensive line all day. That makes him a little better play against Philadelphia but not a ton. We see White as a solid WR4 at best this week, even healthy.

Good news, as Isaiah Crowell has been less than impressive. It's hard to think he'll get a ton of carries and it's more likely he hurts Crowell's numbers than helps his own. Crowell has been trending as a solid RB3 but Johnson could take enough carries against a potentially tough Jets defense to push him down a tier.

Normally a top receiver option, there is a lot working against Jeffery this week. His injury (which shouldn't keep him from playing though you never know), the shaky offense, the lack of receiving options across from him and a revamped Packers defense. We see him as a No. 2 receiver in fantasy this week, assuming he plays.

The Giants take another hit, but it just reinforces our belief that Odell Beckham Jr will have a big day. Even though the Cowboys should be a good team, the secondary is not good at all. We like ODB as a very solid WR1.

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is running with the scout team in practice this week. He won't be tackled, but he is being bumped by defenders. It's the most physical contact he has had thus far as the team measures his readiness for the next step. That step is expected in the next month, barring setbacks.

                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The sooner the better, since Tre Mason is hurt as well. The Rams run game looks awful this week (and would anyway with Seattle the opponent) and we wouldn't go near it any time soon.

                                      Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) was limited in practice again Friday, Sept. 11, but he is listed as probable for Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb should be in your lineups as normal this week. There will some pain tolerance issues and the chance that Cobb lands on the shoulder just wrong and has a re-injury, but the matchup against the Bears is too good to pass up.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) 'looked good' during a walkthrough practice Friday, Sept. 11, according to head coach Lovie Smith. Evans missed the team's final two preseason games but could play in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. Evans is listed as questionable for Week 1.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans is a boom/bust play on Sunday. The depleted Titans secondary could be very generous to a big play receiver like Evans, but he could also test the hamstring and decide he can't go after one series.

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is listed as probable for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is about the best outcome one could have hoped for when McCoy went down in training camp. McCoy has risk, but the probable tag means that the Bills should treat him like a healthy player in terms of workload. As long as McCoy makes it through the game without a setback, this is a good development for his owners.

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (concussion) is probable for Week 1.

Johnson will have a chance to assert himself in this backfield. Isaiah Crowell is the favorite for early down work, but he has far from secured his job this summer. Consider the rookie Johnson a worthy flex and win if he goes off on your bench against the stout Jets front.

TB - QB Jameis Winston has tough task with LeBeau

                                      Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston faces a brutal history when he faces Tennessee Titans assistant head coach/defense Dick LeBeau in Week 1. Since 1995, LeBeau's defenses are 3-26 with 24 touchdowns and 37 interceptions against rookie quarterbacks. LeBeau emphasized that he wouldn't categorize Winston as a rookie based on how he throws the ball, calling him 'a proven winner' who can throw the ball any place and get it there.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LeBeau is good at coming up with blitzes that quarterbacks haven't seen on tape yet. Winston will probably make a few big plays for each team on Sunday.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) will serve as the No. 2 quarterback in Week 1 against the New York Jets because he was able to participate in practice this week.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a matter of when, not if Manziel takes over this year. Josh McCown looked very shaky in the preseason, and Manziel played with a different sense of calm and preparation. 2QB league players shouldn't wait long to stash Manziel.

Miami Dolphins OT Jason Fox (concussion) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 11, and is listed as doubtful for Week 1 against the Washington Redskins. RB LaMichael James (shoulder), OT Branden Albert (knee) and CB Jamar Taylor (thigh) fully participated in practice and are listed as probable.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Albert being probable is music to the Dolphins' offense ears. He's the keystone of the offensive line, and if they are clicking, then it's going to be a good year for Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Miller, and the cavalcade of talented passcatchers in Miami.

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 11, and is listed as probable for Week 1 against the Washington Redskins.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is too risky to count on as more than a what the heck flex, but he is an overwhelming talent at the catch point when he's on, and he could catch fire in a lopsided matchup against Washington. He shouldn't be on any waiver wires.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Floyd is what the heck flex if active, but the late start makes that tough to bet on. If Floyd is out Larry Fitzgerald and especially John Brown have an even higher ceiling against the Saints.

MIA - RB Jonas Gray on active roster

                                      Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Miami Dolphins RB Jonas Gray has been promoted from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster, according to a team source. Gray will be behind RBs Lamar Miller, Damien Williams and LaMichael James on the depth chart. QB Logan Thomas was released in a corresponding move.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gray could vulture touchdowns and create a split backfield if Lamar Miller goes down. There's a chance he got called up because another team tried to sign Gray away.

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (elbow) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 11.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White practiced this week, so he's safe to play. A high scoring game with the Eagles and Byron Maxwell on Julio Jones means White is a good WR3/Flex play this week.

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green (concussion) practiced in full Friday, Sept. 11, but he is listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green is apparently not cleared for contact yet. He could be active on Sunday, but it's best to bench him with a late start and the chance of a setback during the game.

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 11, and is listed as probable for Week 1.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins may see a lot of Vontae Davis and the Bills don't figure to be much of an aerial attack with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. He's only a boom/bust WR3/Flex.

Ertz is a game-time decision for a Monday night game. Even if Ertz goes, Brent Celek is probably the better play this week.

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 11, and is listed as probable for Week 1.

It's not great to see Ivory on the injury report already, but this shouldn't stop you from playing him against a Browns run defense that struggled mightily last year.

CHI - WR Eddie Royal, WR Marquess Wilson questionable

Chicago Bears WRs Eddie Royal (hip) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) are listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. Head coach John Fox is optimistic that both receivers will be able to play this weekend.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Royal has a somewhat high floor in PPR leagues with his short/intermediate route-running role, previous relationship with Jay Cutler, and the potential for a pass-heavy game. He's worth the WR3/Flex start even with the questionable tag.

Cleveland Browns WR Dwayne Bowe is being pushed by the coaching staff, but him listed as third string on the depth chart isn't a sign they're down on him. 'I told Dwayne we expect more out of him,' offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said. 'It was disappointing that he got hurt so early, and it's not all his fault that he hasn't been on the field. He's been great since he stepped foot in this building. He really has. For a guy that's had as much success as he's had, he's bought into what we're doing, bought into our plan, bought into playing like a Brown. He's just had a little bit of a case of bad luck.'

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowe is only on the roster because of his guaranteed money. He's unlikely to be any better than he was in Kansas City last year, when he caught zero touchdowns.

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green agreed to a four-year, $60 million extension Friday, Sept. 11.

Teams are smart to lock these players up now so it's not a potential distraction in season. Not to mention the resetting of salaries in the next league year that would certainly cost the teams money for exercising the right to wait to sign their superstars. The Bengals continue to be one of the best-managed organizations in recent years.

Free-agent LB Aldon Smith (49ers) signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders Friday, Sept. 11.
                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith could actually play Sunday vs. Cincinnati, but his status is unknown. Khalil Mack looks like a superstar in the making, so if and when Smith is ready, the Raiders pass rush could present problems for suspect offensive lines. The Raiders right now though should be getting Smith's head right.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Louis Murphy could start against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 if WR Mike Evans (hamstring) is not able to play.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to find a better option if they can. Evans has struggled with this hamstring injury in recent weeks, and if he doesn't play it could lead to a big game for Vincent Jackson.

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) has been running well and has looked good at what he's done on the field, according to head coach John Fox. Jeffery is officially listed as questionable for Week 1.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, that's a bit of good news for Jeffery. We love his skill set and upside in the Adam Gase offense, but this calf injury has certainly cooled us on his prospects in Week 1. To be safe, try to find other options. If he's what you've got, then try to get him in as a WR2.

Baltimore Ravens TE Crockett Gillmore blocks well but is good in the passing game as well, according to head coach John Harbaugh. 'People want to label him as a blocker;' Harbaugh said. 'He's a very good blocker, but he has a chance as a pass receiver, too.'

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram may be more involved in the passing game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Ingram was used more as a receiver during the preseason.

Ingram is the team's two-down thumper, but he'd like to be more than that. With C.J. Spiller (knee) out in Week 1, it might open the door for Ingram to do more as a receiver.

We like Robinson's upside and natural skill set. He runs low to the ground and has no problem changing direction without losing much speed. Gore is one of the most durable players in the league, so Robinson is only a guy to keep on your waiver-wire speed dial in traditional leagues.

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason is a 'game-time decision' against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy owners need to stay away from Mason this week. We're not overly thrilled by likely starter Benny Cunningham either.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz not running yet

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) hasn't started running yet, head coach Tom Coughlin said Friday, Sept. 11.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His knee doesn't seem to be a problem now, but this calf sure is. We need to see Cruz get back to running and practicing before we consider him for fantasy lineups.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (knee) suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

This is the same injury that has been dogging Breshad Perriman over well over a month. We can't rule out anything until an MRI is done, but if this is injury news on Ellington, it's not as bad as it could have been and it lowers the waiver priority on the Johnson and Johnson backfield for now.

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (knee) has a bruised left knee suffered in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. Team owner Jim Irsay said Hilton has a bruised left knee, but it still might cost him a few weeks.

Donte Moncrief should play a big role with Andre Johnson looking old and Hilton hurting, with Phillip Dorsett also getting a boost as the natural replacement for Hilton. The Colts pass offense should bounce back against the Jets next week, minus whoever Darrelle Revis is on.

Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs (Achilles') is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn Achilles' tendon against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Sept. 13.

The Ravens have overcome some big injuries and losses on defense in the last few years, but Suggs is a leader on and off of the field. The AFC North gives teams no margin of error, so this could be a very very costly season-opening loss for Baltimore.

Fluker is a mauling run blocker who was just kicked inside to guard. His injury will make the Chargers attempts to be a more balanced offense tougher to pull off.

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (hand) left the Week 1 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a hand injury.

Walker's x-ray's were negative. He's a solid TE1 going forward as long as Marcus Mariota continues to play like a veteran instead of a rookie. Walker will face the Browns if he's healthy enough to go in Week 2.

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte had 24 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown and caught five pass on eight targets for 25 yards in a a 31-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Sept. 13.

Forte was the heart and soul of the Bears again versus a Packers run defense that has to face Marshawn Lynch next week. Forte was falling to the second round in some drafts, but that wouldn't happen if we were drafting next week. Forte gets an Arizona defense next week that gave up a ton of running backs as receivers.

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones had four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-23 win over the Chicago Bears Sunday, Sept. 13.

Jones was Aaron Rodgers main target in the red zone, and there's no reason to think that he'll go away in that part of the field after the success he and Rodgers enjoyed there over the years. Jones is a priority waiver wire pickup who should be a boom/bust WR3/Flex. His emergence also hurts the case for Davante Adams to deliver on his inflated ADP.

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (toe) suffered a sprained toe in the Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Anderson was unimpressive as the Kubiak running game didn't click with some new personnel on the offensive line and a quarterback that wasn't really consistent enough to threaten downfield. Ronnie Hillman looked like a more crisp back and could force his way into a committee as a good zone runner. Hillman could potentially even get a start on Thursday against the Chiefs.

That's almost as good as a demotion with the backing Hoyer seemed to have from O'Brien coming into the season. Hoyer took the wind out of the Texans' sails almost immediately, and it will be hard for the team to be confident with him at the helm.

Hopkins was quiet except for an early score until Ryan Mallett came on in the comeback attempt. Mallett's better arm, improvisation and boldness will only benefit Hopkins if he can get the start Week 2 against the tough Panthers defense.

McCoy got into space as a receiver more than he did last year with Philadelphia, but he was mostly smothered at the line on running plays. While he did have one score called back and another run to the 1, the two other backs scoring instead of McCoy after he was vultured by Chris Polk late last year is not comforting for McCoy's fantasy owners.

Johnson looked slow, perhaps even slower than Reggie Wayne did at the end with the Colts last year. His role might wane as the season goes on unless his form changes quickly or one of Phillip Dorsett/Donte Moncrief falter. There was some chatter this offseason that Johnson had lost a gear, and that seems to be well-founded after one game.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed busy Sunday

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed was targeted a team-high 11 times and finished with seven catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in a 17-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Sept. 13.

Reed is one of the more injury prone players in the league, but his big frame and short range game should give Kirk Cousins a prominent target, especially for as long as DeSean Jackson is banged up.

TEN - RB Bishop Sankey praised for effort

                                              Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey ran for a career-high 72 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and caught two passes for 12 yards and a score in a 42-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday, Sept. 13, and head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Sankey had 'a good day' and 'ran tough.'

Sankey and the entire Titans offense looks 1000% more valuable for fantasy than they did 24 hours ago because of Marcus Mariota. Terrance West and eventually David Cobb will keep Sankey from being an everyweek RB2, but he will remain at least a flex play next week against the beleaguered Browns run defense.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham scores in team debut

                                              Source: The Associated Press

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham caught six passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 loss to the St. Louis Rams Sunday, Sept. 13.

                                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham had a decent fantasy game against a defense that has shut him down in the past mainly because the Seahawks were in a high-scoring dogfight. He should be a solid TE1 against the Packers next week, but Travis Kelce is arguably worth more, and Tyler Eifert is closing fast.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) is out four to six weeks after suffering a broken right foot Sunday, Sept. 13. The injury will require surgery to insert a screw into the fractured bone. The earliest he could return would be Oct. 25, against the New York Giants.
