BUF - RB LeSean McCoy may not be limited

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) may not be limited much in Week 1, as head coach Rex Ryan joked McCoy's pitch count would be '100.'

Ryan should not be flippant when it comes to managing his best playmaker at running back. McCoy can be the centerpiece of this offense, but hamstring injuries are known to linger if not treated properly.

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is likely to start Week 1 Sunday, Sept. 13, but the team doesn't have a pitch count on him and RB Joseph Randle.

Fantasy alert! McFadden has talent, but he's one of those players who struggles to stay healthy with a large role. If he can hang onto the starting job, then McFadden could perform like a RB2 with upside. However, he's always in danger of getting banged up and the team could turn to a guy like Christine Michael when he's up to speed in this offense. Also note that this is just Clarence Hill's opinion on McFadden starting. Other sources like Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News expects Joseph Randle to see the majority of the action. So even if McFadden does get the start, expect to see a hot hand type approach.

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) still doesn't know if he'll be the backup or third-string quarterback in Week 1. Griffin and the Redskins are awaiting the results of the quarterback's neurological exam. Griffin was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Things have taken a turn downwards for the young quarterback. If Griffin is cleared to play, head coach Jay Gruden will decide between Griffin and QB Colt McCoy for the No. 2 and No. 3 quarterback spots. We imagine that in Week 1 (at least), McCoy would win that backup spot...making Griffin inactive.

Oakland Raiders RB Roy Helu is listed as the No. 3 running back behind RBs Latavius Murray and Taiwan Jones.

An interesting move by the Raiders here. Helu could work well as a pass-catching back, but it could actually be Jones in that role. Jones has switched back and forth between running back and cornerback. He's back at running back, and Jones has obviously impressed the new coaching staff if he's second-string to begin the year.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel dealing with soreness

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) had some soreness in his elbow after practice Monday, Sept. 7, 'but that was expected,' according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel is expected to be good to go for Week 1.

Pettine said this elbow isn't a serious issue, but this soreness is something that has bothered Manziel all the way back to high school. That sounds rather serious. We'll see if they can manage his pain. His elbow won't get too sore holding a clipboard on Sundays.

TEN - RB Bishop Sankey will get his chance

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey led the Titans with only 569 rushing yards and two touchdowns last year for a 3.7 yards-per-carry average. His longest run was only 22 yards and his season high was just 61 yards in a game. Sankey said he's happy he struggled in his rookie year and is more confident entering 2016. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn't want to rely too much on Sankey this year, though, and the team added RB Terrance West after rookie RB David Cobb (calf) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list. West could see significant touches as the season moves along, but Whisenhunt said it'll take time for him to learn the offense. Sankey has a prime opportunity to stake his claim to the lead-back role in the meantime.

He gets his chance because David Cobb is going to miss significant time with a calf injury. Sankey was unimpressive last year as a rookie, and we're not expecting that to change this season.

Shocking report (sarcasm) right here. Since 53-man rosters have been submitted, the Giants no longer have the option of placing Pierre-Paul on the Non-Football Injury list and activating him after six games. They could apply the designation and not be obligated to pay Pierre-Paul his salary, but players put on that list at this point are not eligible to return this season.

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) is improving, according to head coach Lovie Smith. Smith said Evans could play Sunday if he feels good.

DAL - A true committee in Dallas

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is unconcerned with who is starting at running back for the team in Week 1 against the New York Giants. RP Joseph Randle has seen most of the first-team snaps over RB Darren McFadden since the spring, and Randle was taking first-team snaps again in a portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Sept. 9. However, it's clear that Dallas will go with a committee approach in the backfield with Randle, McFadden and RB Lance Dunbar seeing work. The division of labor could change game to game, half to half, quarter to quarter or series to series.

So what this means is, avoid it this weekend. Seriously, there are too many moving parts for the risk. Everyone could break out or everyone could kill each other's production. At best Darren McFadden is a flex play (up until he stubs his toe) with Joseph Randle not far behind.

GB - WR Randall Cobb's range of motion limited

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (shoulder) has limited range of motion in his right shoulder as it heals, but he said he'll play Sunday, Sept. 13, in Week 1. Cobb practiced Wednesday, Sept. 9, with extra padding and protection beneath his jersey. Cobb said the 11-on-11 reps he did were valuable as he learns to understand and tolerate the pain of players hitting, bumping or making contact with his shoulder. Cobb also said his sleeping pattern has been disrupted due to the injury. 'I have to deal with this for a few weeks,' Cobb said. 'That's part of it. I'm going to do everything I can to protect myself, but I have to play fearless. I've always been a fearless player.'

This is a a concern but we still see him as a low-end WR1 this week against a Bears defense which puts the 'ug' in 'ugly.'

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will start against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, and in 2014, Jacksonville ranked 27th against the run and allowed the seventh most rushing touchdowns.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski in elite company

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski caught two touchdowns in the first half against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 Thursday, Sept. 10, and his 15 games with at least two touchdowns since 2010 are tied with Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson for the most in the NFL during the stretch.

The Steelers made a bold move and chose not to cover Gronkowski, or at least it seemed that way. It didn't work out well for them as he totaled five catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns. The Steelers defense is every bit as bad as advertised and should be a very nice matchup for receivers and quarterbacks this season.

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington will face a New Orleans Saints defense in Week 1 that allowed the fourth most rushing yards, third most rushing touchdowns and second most yards per carry in the NFL in 2014.

This could make Ellington a borderline RB1, but be safe and plug him into your second slot instead just to be safe. Even there, he will put up some very nice numbers unless the game gets away from the Cardinals early and they have to throw.

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry faces a Washington Redskins defense in Week 1 that allowed the most passing touchdowns and most yards per pass attempt in the NFL in 2014.

We're expecting good things from Landry as a WR2 as well as quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who could produce QB1 numbers against a poor defense.

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell will likely receive the most carries in Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers while RB Ameer Abdullah will be used as a change-of-pace back, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

A lot of people have been buying hard on Abdullah, especially in Daily Fantasy circles and this would sting. We'll have to see how it shakes out, but this pushes Bell to a solid RB3 with RB2 upside and Abdullah to a risky RB3 start at best. High upside but high risk as well.

Hopefully this group will be healthier by Sunday. The Colts shouldn't be terribly challenged by the Bills passing game (such as it is) but will have to be on point to slow down LeSean McCoy. The Colts defense should be an OK start this week, as chances are the Bills won't pile the points on.

Seattle Seahawks FS Earl Thomas (shoulder) will have to wear a tight harness on his surgically repaired left shoulder in Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams and likely beyond that. 'I feel like I can't high-point anything,' Thomas said, referring to his ability to reach above his head and intercept a pass.

Thomas might not have a ton of interceptions as long as he wears the harness but he'll play and that is far more important. Thomas is one of the most vital pieces in the defense, which should spend Sunday slapping the Rams around. We'd start them without a doubt.

Manning is barely a QB2 play and we'd look for a better matchup.

ARI - RB Andre Ellington injury update

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (knee) suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

This is the same injury that has been dogging Breshad Perriman over well over a month. We can't rule out anything until an MRI is done, but if this is injury news on Ellington, it's not as bad as it could have been and it lowers the waiver priority on the Johnson and Johnson backfield for now.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton might miss time

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (knee) has a bruised left knee suffered in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. Team owner Jim Irsay said Hilton has a bruised left knee, but it still might cost him a few weeks.

Donte Moncrief should play a big role with Andre Johnson looking old and Hilton hurting, with Phillip Dorsett also getting a boost as the natural replacement for Hilton. The Colts pass offense should bounce back against the Jets next week, minus whoever Darrelle Revis is on.

Forte was the heart and soul of the Bears again versus a Packers run defense that has to face Marshawn Lynch next week. Forte was falling to the second round in some drafts, but that wouldn't happen if we were drafting next week. Forte gets an Arizona defense next week that gave up a ton of running backs as receivers.

GB - WR James Jones makes quick impact

Jones was Aaron Rodgers main target in the red zone, and there's no reason to think that he'll go away in that part of the field after the success he and Rodgers enjoyed there over the years. Jones is a priority waiver wire pickup who should be a boom/bust WR3/Flex. His emergence also hurts the case for Davante Adams to deliver on his inflated ADP.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson sprains toe

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (toe) suffered a sprained toe in the Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Anderson was unimpressive as the Kubiak running game didn't click with some new personnel on the offensive line and a quarterback that wasn't really consistent enough to threaten downfield. Ronnie Hillman looked like a more crisp back and could force his way into a committee as a good zone runner. Hillman could potentially even get a start on Thursday against the Chiefs.

HOU - QB Brian Hoyer out as starter?

That's almost as good as a demotion with the backing Hoyer seemed to have from O'Brien coming into the season. Hoyer took the wind out of the Texans' sails almost immediately, and it will be hard for the team to be confident with him at the helm.

McCoy got into space as a receiver more than he did last year with Philadelphia, but he was mostly smothered at the line on running plays. While he did have one score called back and another run to the 1, the two other backs scoring instead of McCoy after he was vultured by Chris Polk late last year is not comforting for McCoy's fantasy owners.

There was some chatter this offseason that Johnson had lost a gear, and that seems to be well-founded after one game.

Sankey and the entire Titans offense looks 1000% more valuable for fantasy than they did 24 hours ago because of Marcus Mariota.
