NFL Player News - Week of June 8th
NYG - QB Eli Manning comfortable with offense

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

New York Giants QB Eli Manning said he understands the concepts and feels more comfortable with offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's system this year after offseason ankle surgery limited his reps last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A more comfortable Manning is nothing but a good thing for the Giants. We know he'll have incredible targets around him in the passing game--especially if Victor Cruz (knee) comes back healthy this season. Look for Manning to be a low-end QB1 for fantasy owners.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco may rework deal soon

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - John Eisenberg
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco may be asked to restructure his contract in the near future because his salary cap figure for 2016 will be $28.5 million.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We could see some movement on this sometime before that number hits. There's no rush now, and we don't envision any scenario where this turns sour. The Ravens love having Flacco as their leader, and any sort of restructuring should be worked out smoothly.

JAX - Jags' tight ends to be used often
    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran
Jacksonville Jaguars TEs Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor will still have roles in the team's 2015 offense with plenty of two- and three-tight end sets to be used. “This system is very exciting,” Harbor said. “It uses the tight ends a lot and it gives our [meeting] room more opportunities to make plays,” said Harbor. TE Julius Thomas will be used as a 'move' tight end, with Lewis acting in a more traditional role and remaining on the line. Harbor will also be used as a 'move' tight end, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Out of all the tight ends in Jacksonville, Julius Thomas is going to see a majority of the targets. Lewis might get a tiny look in the red zone, and Harbor is just a backup. If Blake Bortles is throwing to a tight end, it's likely to be Thomas and that's why he's a TE1 for fantasy owners. Like Eric Decker (Jets) last year, expect the numbers for Thomas to dip as he's not snaring the rock from Peyton Manning anymore.

KC - QB Alex Smith being asked to go deep

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith has been asked to take more shots down the field this season. 'I like where Alex is,' offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said. 'But now in the spring, we want to see any quarterback shoot the ball down the field and at least test it. That gives him the comfort level the next time he's in that situation.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good luck with that. In 2014, Smith had a league-low 5.58 air yards per target and he never looks comfortable throwing deep. The Chiefs went out an added WR Jeremy Maclin in free agency with the idea that he would give them the deep target they were missing last season. We like Maclin--and defenders certainly need to respect his speed--but the problem here is Smith. We'll have to see if he shows more boldness as a passer in 2015.

TEN - Dorial Green-Backham wants to slim down

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham (hamstring) wants to play at around 225 pounds this season but recently weighed in at 237 pounds. Green-Beckham was sidelined by a hamstring injury last week, but head coach Ken Whisenhunt expects Green-Beckham to take part in organized team activities this upcoming week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Once Green-Beckham is ready to practice again, the team can work on cutting his weight. Losing about 10-15 pounds would not hurt Green-Beckham's game. In fact, he could be lighter and faster without losing the size/strength that makes him dominant at the point of the catch. Green-Beckham had top-10 talent but fell in the draft due to off-field concerns. We'll see if he can stay out of trouble, slim down and start playing up to his enormous potential in 2015.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant adds weight
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant has been working out three times per day this offseason and currently weighs 225 pounds, which is 10 pounds more than he weighed during his rookie season. 'Everyone gets bigger and better every year,' Bryant said. 'I wanted to make sure I got better. I didn't want to slack off or become complacent. I had some things I wanted to get done in the offseason, so I went to work.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bryant became a fantasy darling last year because of his ability to make plays in the end zone. His penchant for hauling in long touchdowns make him a great player to consider each week in DFS. Bryant's 21.1 yards per reception ranked first in the NFL last year.

      Tuesday Update

NYG - Odell Beckham continues to nurse injury

      Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. missed organized team activities again Monday, June 8, as he continues to deal with a right hamstring injury.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No hurries, no worries here for Grandpa Coughlin and company. Coughlin did not say whether or not Beckham would be able to participate in minicamp next week.

TB - WR Vincent Jackson lining up everywhere

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson is lining up in multiple spots in offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter's offense. 'Dirk is having some fun moving me around and playing me in multiple places, and it's been fun for me, too,'' Jackson said. 'It's fun to play inside (in the slot) and outside, to be able stretch the field and cross the field. 'That's what's good about this system. We're going to put the ball all over the place. The (running) backs, the tight ends, everybody's going to be involved and that should make it fun for all of us.'

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson is still a dangerous receiver in the NFL. Rookie QB Jameis Winston has no fear when challenging the edges of a defense, and he should quickly favor Jackson as one of his go-to guys. Fantasy owners know what Jackson can do, but there is a little hesitation about the offense in Tampa. Right now, Jackson has an ADP of WR30 (6.10) in 12-team PPR leagues. Last year, Jackson was the 37th-best fantasy receiver, but the three previous seasons he ranked 14th, 6th and 10th respectively. So long as Winston isn't a total disaster, Jackson should be able to outperform his current ADP.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin returning soon

      Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) may return to full participation in organized team activities Tuesday, June 9, after taking some repetitions Monday, June 8.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin injured his hamstring last month and has not participated in OTAs. He was Cam Newton's favorite target last year, and the Panthers are expecting him to take another step in his sophomore season with the team.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson talks going slowly

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson's new contract talks aren't gaining steam, but a deal is still expected to get done.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This will get done at the right time, and now doesn't seem like that time. Wilson's agent has already said that the talks have been encouraging, but the Seahawks don't seem to be in a rush to get the deal done.

TEN - RB Bishop Sankey impressing

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey has looked impressive during non-contact drills this offseason, in the opinion of The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. Sankey did not participate in offseason workouts last year because of school commitments.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeah, we'll believe it when we see it. We weren't high on Sankey coming out of Washington last year, and with the Titans taking both fullback Jalston Fowler and running back David Cobb in the 2015 NFL draft we could see a change in the Tennessee backfield. With rookie QB Marcus Mariota under center, the Titans will want to run the ball as much as possible. Let's wait for the preseason to watch Sankey for improvements in his game.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham grows rapport with QB

Source: The Seattle Times - Jayson Jenks
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is building great chemistry with new tight end Jimmy Graham during OTAs. “Throwing to him is easy,” Wilson said. Graham is expected to help greatly in the red zone, and he should become a favorite of Wilson in 2015.
      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Seahawks were 20th in the league last year with only 51 percent of their trips into the red zone resulting in touchdowns. Graham is going to boost that number. Last season, all 10 of Graham's touchdowns came in the red zone. His size, leaping ability, wingspan and "my ball" mentality are among the best in the game. Fantasy owners are taking Graham off the board at TE2 (3.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota impressing

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has looked better than expected with his arm strength and confidence in the offense, according to beat writer Jim Wyatt.
      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Another positive report about Mariota here. We know that OTA reports have to be taken with a grain of salt, but this is a good thing to read. It doesn't seem like the pro game is too big for Mariota at this point. We'll see if that changes when the rookie is under pressure from an opposing NFL defense. We like the weapons around him, but Mariota will go through struggles as a rookie.

CAR - WR Devin Funchess making progress

      Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess has been working at all three wide receiver positions during organized team activities and looks comfortable at each of the positions. Funchess has been working with the first-team offense during the workouts and is receiving extra reps because of injuries. Funchess has developed good chemistry with QB Cam Newton this offseason.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's no mystery, Funchess needs a lot of work as a pro wide receiver. The rookie from Michigan needs to refine his route-running ability and show better use of his frame to "box out" smaller defenders. We're interested to see if Funchess can develop into a decent WR2 opposite Kelvin Benjamin.

DET - RB Ben Tate to work out for Detroit

      Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent RB Ben Tate (Steelers) is scheduled to work out for the Detroit Lions Tuesday, June 9, according to a source.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions are likely just updating their emergency list here. We like the collection of running backs they have for 2015. Veteran Joique Bell will try to keep rookie Ameer Abdullah at bay for the starting job while Theo Riddick carves out a role as a change-of-pace back. We're really interested in seeing if UDFA rookie Zach Zenner can make an impact in training camp and the preseason.

NO - WR Brandin Cooks wants to play faster

      Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks expects to play at a faster pace in his second season in the NFL. Cooks said he's ahead of where he was last offseason from a mental standpoint and feels that he has unfinished business following a shortened rookie season due to a broken thumb.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooks can be a stud for the Saints passing game. The team will be looking to replace the targets lost with Jimmy Graham (Seahawks) traded away. Cooks could be part of that answer. He's super quick and elusive after the catch. Look for him to work shorter routes in order to turn them into long gains. His current ADP is WR15 (3.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NE - ILB Brandon Spikes released
      Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
New England Patriots LB Brandon Spikes was released Monday, June 8.
      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Well that didn't take long. Signed on May 18th, the Patriots moved on quickly from Spikes as he's currently under police investigation for a hit-and-run that hospitalized three people in Massachusetts this weekend. If cleared, Spikes may get some interest as a two-down run-stuffing linebacker.

        Wednesday Update

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry is go-to receiver

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry and QB Ryan Tannehill have developed a nice rapport during organized team activities (OTAs), and he is expected to be the go-to receiver heading into the regular season.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill targeted Landry 112 times last year, and that number should rise this season. Landry can be a reliable receiver on underneath routes, and he can make plays after the catch. Currently, Landry has an ADP of WR24 (5.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles making improvements

        Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is working on lengthening his released and shortening his delivery as he prepares for his second season in the NFL. Bortles wants to be a more accurate passer by lengthening his release and make his release quicker by making his delivery shorter. 'It's hard when you try and change stuff like that,' Bortles said. 'It's something you've got to think about. Right now I'm in the stage of doing as much as possible so I don't have to think about it anymore.'

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars put better weapons around Bortles this offseason with the hope that he could take that next step in his sophomore season. We'll be more excited about his prospects if this offensive line proves they can do a better job of protecting him. Bortles was sacked a league-high 55 times in 2015. His was blitzed on 31 percent of his dropbacks (league average was 30.3 percent) and felt pressure on 26.2 percent of his dropbacks (league average was 25.5 percent).

OAK - RB Latavius Murray primed for big year?

        Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray could be ready for a breakout season in 2015, according to a team source. The anonymous source said Murray has the intelligence and physique to have a huge year in his third season with the club.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We love Murray's upside and natural ability. He's a big, upright back who runs swiftly when at top speed. Murray is not shy when it comes to initiating contact, but he can also make defenders miss with subtle moves in the open field.

STL - RB Todd Gurley doing what he can

        Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) worked out with athletic trainers on the sideline Tuesday, June 9, during organized team activities. He continues to rehabilitate from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Gurley is still unable to do much work laterally. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Gurley is progressing well, however. 'He's doing a great job with his rehab. He's very anxious. 'Fisher said.' He's probably a little frustrated, but he's anxious to get out there right now, so that's going well.'

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gurley is a fierce competitor, but the team is going to bring him along at a reasonable pace. He may want to do more, but caution is needed with this knee injury. Gurley has superstar ability, and the rookie from Georgia reminds us of Marshawn Lynch (Seahawks) because of his size/speed/power combination.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota showing nice accuracy

        Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has received nothing but rave reviews during the team's offseason workouts, and wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson was the latest to praise the young quarterback, saying 'he is deadly accurate.' 'No. 1, it's his accuracy. No. 2, he's come in and grasped the offense. And No. 3 is the way the guys respond to him, the way he's able to go in that huddle and take control,' Jefferson said. Mariota is developing a rapport with all of the team's receivers during workouts, and the wideouts love working with him.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This has been a constant drumbeat this offseason. Part of it is OTA "hot takes" you need to read with a grain of salt, but it's a good sign for the rookie. He'll struggle this year, but perhaps he'll be able to play better than some think.

ARI - RB Andre Ellington looking good

Source: FOX Sports 910 Radio - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (foot) appears to be 100 percent during organized team activities (OTAs) after an injury-plagued 2014 season. He has been showing elusive quickness in practice.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for Ellington here. He worked hard last year to overcome that foot injury, and he never looked like himself in 2014. This season, Ellington will be aided by rookie RB David Johnson. Ellington won't have to do all the heavy lifting this season as the lead back in Arizona's RBBC.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas' contract will get done

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas was not present at minicamp Tuesday, June 9, as he awaits a long-term deal. Head coach Gary Kubiak said he is very confident that the long-term deal will get done.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Of course Kubiak is going to express confidence, but at the end of the day we're not expecting a deal until we get closer to the July 15th deadline. Thomas would play on a one-year salary of $12.8 million if he doesn't get a long-term deal and instead signs his franchise tender.

NYJ - QB Geno Smith struggles

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Geno Smith threw three interceptions during minicamp Tuesday, June 9, including two in the red zone.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is not great news, but it's minicamp and Smith is learning a different system under new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Let's give him some time to see if he can improve.

ARI - RB David Johnson mirrors RB Andre Ellington

        Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson is viewed as a similar back to RB Andre Ellington, and Johnson can do a lot of the same things on the field.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson can get more yards between the tackles than Ellington, but we get where this comparison comes from. The rookie is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield and can make plays in space--just like Ellington. The Cardinals will use a RBBC with Ellington as the lead back.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen impresses

Source: The Star-Ledger - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen has impressed in organized team activities and caught an abundance of passes out of the backfield. Vereen figures to be a big part of the offense.

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vereen is going to carve out a role in the Giants backfield this year. He can serve as a change-of-pace back behind Rashad Jennings. Second-year pro Andre Williams is a two-down thumper who could get some short-yardage and goal-line work. Vereen could get Jennings some rest as a part-time runner and receiver out of the backfield.

MIA - WR Rishard Matthews showing well

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews has strung together several strong practices at organized team activities (OTAs).

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports earlier this year indicated that Matthews was unhappy and wanted to be released or traded. Obviously the Dolphins didn't move him, and now he'll have to compete with guys like Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings and rookie DeVante Parker.

ARI - RB David Johnson impressing

Source: FOX Sports 910 Radio - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has impressed the coaching staff and his teammates with his pass-catching ability during organized team activities (OTAs).

        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should not be a surprise. Johnson was a fantastic receiver in college at Northern Iowa. He caught over 30 passes each season of his four-year career, maxing out at 38 catches (2013, 2014).

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson not expected in preseason

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson isn't expected to see any playing time during the preseason, according to head coach Mike Zimmer Wednesday, June 10. 'We’re talking in June, so you can’t hold me to it, but he’s carried the ball a lot (in his eight-year career) and he’s going to continue to carry the ball a lot. He’ll get plenty of looks and reps in practice,' said Zimmer.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson should get plenty of work in training camp, but the team will be cautious with him in the preseason. He missed all but one game last year, but Peterson has been impressing everyone during OTAs in Minnesota. We're expecting the same old Peterson in 2015.

BUF - Still a QB competition in Buffalo

                Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are still competing for the starting quarterback job, according to head coach Rex Ryan. 'Wisdom tells me to let I play out, we'll see what happens through the end,' Ryan said.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't an exciting race to watch for fantasy owners. Cassel has the most experience (by far) in this battle, but he's painfully average at best. Manuel has great size and arm strength , but he's hurt a lot and makes poor decisions throwing the ball. Taylor is super quick, super athletic and has a rocket arm, but he lacks sharpness as a passer. The Bills are going to have a run-heavy offense with superstar back LeSean McCoy leading the way. The quarterback won't be asked to do that much for the offense.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) appeared to still be hobbled during organized team activities Tuesday, June 9, and he worked with a large brace on his leg while doing limited activity on the field.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no guarantee that Bradford will be at 100 percent by the time training camp--or the regular season--gets here. We could see Mark Sanchez win the starting job by default if Bradford can't compete at a high level due to this injury.

PHI - QB Mark Sanchez ready for QB battle

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Philadelphia Eagles QB Mark Sanchez said Tuesday, June 9, he is looking at the quarterback battle as an open competition. He has already worked with many of the young receivers and tight ends before, in games. “We’re all going to individually compete,” Sanchez said, “and the best guy is going to play.”

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not really going to be a battle if Sam Bradford (knee) isn't healthy. Sanchez looks much more comfortable in this offense according to reports. We'll see if he can carry that over to training camp and possibly the starting job.

NYJ - QB Geno Smith rebounds at minicamp

                Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Geno Smith had a better practice at minicamp Wednesday, June 10, than he did Tuesday, June 9, when he threw three interceptions. Smith saw the majority of first-team repetitions and did not throw any interceptions this time around.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are going to be good days and bad days for Smith as he learns a new offense under OC Chan Gailey. We believe in Gailey's ability to get the most out of the quarterbacks under him, so don't be surprised if Smith puts together a couple of games like he did in Week 17 last year against the Dolphins. In that game, Smith had 358 yards passing and three touchdowns. He wants to carry that momentum over to this season under the guidance of Gailey.

NYG - QB Eli Manning throwing better

                Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants QB Eli Manning has shown improvements this offseason in second-year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's offense. Manning has extremely limited the amount of interceptions he's thrown compared to last offseason.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The second year in an offense will usually be more productive than the first. Manning sounds more comfortable in the McAdoo system, and he certainly has big-time weapons around him in the passing game. The Giants will be even better off if Victor Cruz (knee) can return to form in 2015.

Carr showed good velocity during practice and did not appear to be bothered by his injury according to reports. The Raiders are trying to build a quality passing game and adding a potential superstar like rookie Amari Cooper should greatly help.

ARI - RB David Johnson represents safety net

                Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson was praised by head coach Bruce Arians for his work in the receiving game. RB Andre Ellington excelled as a receiver in 2014, but his difficulties staying healthy would force Arians and the Cardinals to alter their game plan. Johnson is expected to allow for a much more seamless transition in the event of an Ellington injury.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is a strong inside runner with the ability to consistently run through arm tackles. He's also a really good receiver out of the backfield. Johnson has the ability to be a full-time starter if needed. He'll work as a reserve runner/receiver behind Andre Ellington this year. Keep him on your waiver-wire speed dial in standard leagues where bench space is precious.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah impressing QB

                Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions rookie RB Ameer Abdullah has already caught the attention of QB Matthew Stafford. 'I think he has great balance. He's obviously a low-to-the-ground guy. He seems to hide pretty well behind [the offensive line] and he's got good vision,' Stafford said. Stafford also praised Abdullah for his pass-catching ability, including his hands and route-running.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Take note fantasy owners. Abdullah is an exciting rookie RB to watch out for. He'll split time this year with Joique Bell (provided that Bell is healthy), and Abdullah has the speed to take it the house any time he touches the ball. He's not a pile-pusher, but Abdullah is dangerous in space and can eat up chunks of yards in a hurry.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen featured in passing game

                Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants RB Shane Vereen caught pass after pass in organized team activities, particularly in the red zone.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There have been quite a few positive stories about Vereen coming out of Giants minicamp. We always take OTA "hot takes" with a grain of salt, but we also look for a constant rhythm to the reporting coming out of camp. Vereen is a player of note. He'll work as a part-time back for the Giants behind starter Rashad Jennings. Fantasy owners in PPR leagues should note what he's been doing this offseason and look at him as a low-end RB3 with upside.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor impressing

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor has shown off his speed, athleticism and route-running so far in organized team activities, and seems to be acclimating quickly to the professional level, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Agholor can be the answer at WR1 for the Eagles since Jeremy Maclin is now suiting up for the Chiefs. The rookie from USC has a fearless nature when running routes over the middle. He can make defenders miss after the catch and does a good job of gaining separation at the stem of the route. His current ADP is WR33 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DAL - WR Terrance Williams making progress

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams has shown good progress with his play during offseason workouts, according to QB Tony Romo.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams will be splitting secondary targets behind Dez Bryant with Cole Beasley and tight end Jason Witten. He's a threat to score a deep touchdown on any given Sunday because of his long speed. That makes him an intriguing bye-week option for fantasy owners in deep leagues. That also makes him an interesting--and cheap--option for DFS players in certain matchups.

There always seems to be SOMETHING with Ingram. We like his determination, but injury concerns (even minor ones) have plagued him during his entire pro career. Ingram will be the hammer of the Saints RBBC with free-agent addition C.J. Spiller working as the change-of-pace back.

The Lions have been looking at some free agent running backs this week, leading some to speculate about Bell's injury status. Right now, the plan is for him to be ready at some point during training camp. The language of the NFL is money--or transactions--so watch for any running back signings in Detroit. If Bell needs more time to heal, the Lions should grab a veteran free agent. Bell underwent surgery back on January 20th.

Last year picking Thomas in the 3rd and 4th rounds was money for a couple of my teams, but that was catching Manning passes not Bortles. Anybody rolling the dice on Julius the season?

                      Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QBs Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty didn’t thrill head coach Todd Bowles with their play during minicamp. 'It's been up and down,' Bowles said of Smith's performances. 'He makes good throws, he makes some bad throws. There has to be more consistency for the quarterbacks overall.'

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's one thing to say that about Bryce Petty (raw) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (himself) but Geno Smith cannot have 'inconsistent' used to label him. He needs to be on point if Smith wants to prove himself. He may have the starting job (per OC Chan Gailey) now but he's walking a very thin tightrope. From a fantasy standpoint, we'd avoid the Jets quarterbacks.

                      Source: Colts.com - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton could be receiving an extension in the near future, according to owner Jim Irsay. Irsay said he'd like to get something done sooner rather than later.

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's wise to lock him down, though the Colts have to make sure they don't overspend on the offense and hurt the defense long term, as they did during the Peyton Manning years. That said, if they lock Hilton down now, they will probably save money as his value will keep rising. Right now Hilton is tracking as a borderline WR1 with an ADP of 3.02, which is right about where his value is.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (foot) returned to practice as a full participant Thursday, June 11. He missed practice Wednesday, June 10, with inflammation in his foot.

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs are excited to get Maclin back, but we're not quite as ecstatic as we believe that he'll be hampered by a very conservative offense in Kansas City--and oh yeah, QB Alex Smith. The Chiefs threw zero touchdowns to receivers last year, but we expect that to change in 2015--largely due to Maclin. However, the overall scheme limits this entire passing game. We see him as a WR3 with upside which we're seeing reflected in his current ADP of 6.02 or 27th receiver off the board.

DET - Big year expected from WR Calvin Johnson

                      Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson should be very productive in his second year under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, according to WR Lance Moore. 'It's going to be pretty crazy, a second year in this offense,' Moore said. 'I'm trying to help him with a few little things route-wise that I think can help him a whole lot and make his job a lot easier out there.'

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Early ADP seems to have Calvin Johnson around the top of the second round, which could be extremely good value for owners at the turn. If Golden Tate replicates what he did last season, Johnson should see even more opportunity in single coverage than he did in 2014.

The Panthers are counting on Benjamin, who was one of three rookie receivers to go over 1,000 yards last season. He, along with rookie David Funchess, could form the core of a very nice receiving group down the road. Hamstring or not, Benjamin is hovering as a WR2 in early drafts, going in the mid to late third round.

HOU - HOU may name QB before camp

                      Source: NFL.com - Michael Silver

Houston Texans QBs Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer are candidates for the starting quarterback job, and head coach Bill O'Brien indicated the team may name a starting quarterback before the start of training camp.

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hoyer is an aggressively average quarterback (some would say scrappy) while Mallett is inconsistent with a much bigger arm. Right now, early redraft owners are split but neither quarterback is getting traction. The Texans want to run the ball as much as possible and play great defense. The QB situation just isn't going to be that attractive for fantasy owners, despite the weapons around them in the passing game.

The Browns really need help at wide receiver and while Bowe has fallen short of his potential, he's an upgrade over what they had last year when Josh Gordon was suspended. Right now, Bowe is tracking as a late pick (14th round) which puts him at depth and no more for fantasy players. Part of that is Bowe (and his lack of focus), but a lot of it is also the messy quarterback situation.

Talent has never been a question for McFadden. However, staying healthy has been a near-constant problem for him during his pro career. Any back worth a damn could be productive (and certainly fantasy relevant) behind that incredibly talented offensive line in Dallas. Cleveland Browns RBs Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson were lined up in the backfield together Thursday, June 11, during organized team activities.

                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should be expecting Johnson to cut in on Crowell's playing time. Johnson is more of the change-of-pace back, and he's a better receiver out of the backfield. Crowell is a naturally instinctive runner who can dominate on the ground. The Browns want to be a run-heavy offense because of the shaky quarterbacks on the roster.

Offensive line is key too, he was under constant pressure last year.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant to skip Week 1?
                              Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is considering skipping the regular season opener if he does not receive a long-term deal by July 15, according to sources. Bryant has not signed his franchise tender at this point and has until July 15 to sign a multi-year deal with the Cowboys. It is believed the team has not offered Bryant a new deal since before the 2014 season.

We'll have to pump the brakes on this. First, we need to get past the July 15th deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign long-term contracts. After that, then we could examine whether or not Bryant would holdout during training camp. Then, we'd have to see if that holdout could last into the regular season. Bottom line, there's got to be some patience when looking at this issue.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden frustrated

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Brandon George

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (hamstring) said he is frustrated that he is not able to participate in organized team activities but would rather sit out now than have his hamstring injury linger.

McFadden has to be frustrated because of his aggravating injury history. This guy has talent, but he always seems to be banged up. If healthy, McFadden will compete with Joseph Randle to be the team's starting running back.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel living with former coach
                              Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is living in the Cleveland area with former high school coach Julius Scott since Scott had a big influence in Manziel earlier in his career. Scott was considered the disciplinarian on Manziel's high school team, and Manziel said Scott made the biggest impact on his development as a player.

Manziel is staying out of trouble for the most part this offseason as he tries to get his life and his career back on track. We applaud the young quarterback for taking these steps, and we'll be curious to see if he can show improvement on the field this preseason.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas to skip camp?

                              Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is not expected to report to training camp unless a long-term deal is reached before the July 15 deadline to sign franchise players to extensions, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos could get something done with Thomas in the 11th hour. The target price for Thomas could be somewhere between $12 million and $16 million annually. However, it is unknown if Thomas would want more than $16 million per year (a number that would be greater than Calvin Johnson). Stay tuned.

TB - Tim Wright claimed by TB

                              Source: ESPN

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, June 12.

                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright goes back to where he came from. The Bucs traded him to the Patriots last year so they could add guard Logan Mankins. Now, Wright is back to compete as a reserve tight end behind Austin Seferian-Jenkins. His main competition for the team's TE2 spot is Brandon Myers.

STL - RB Todd Gurley signs deal
                              Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner
St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley signed a contract with the team Friday, June 12. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We believe Gurley could be one of the best running backs in the game when healthy. He's currently recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last year at Georgia. There's a chance that Gurley is held out of most (if not all) of the preseason as he continues to recover. We could see the Rams ease him into action as the regular season starts.

STL - Unlikely to pursue Evan Mathis
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas
Free-agent OG Evan Mathis (Eagles) is not expected to be an option for the St. Louis Rams unless his asking price drops.
                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Rams were one of the teams linked to Mathis after the Eagles released him on Thursday. There is a need at the guard position for the Rams, but they'll want to get Mathis at a reasonable price.

True to a point but he had happy feet in pocket as well. Thomas should make him better in red zone.

He isn't much of an NFL back anyways.
