NFL Playoff Format Remains Unchanged for Now

Adding another team will continue to be evaluated but it will not happen for the 2015 Playoffs.


Speaking at the Owners' Meetings in Arizona, commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has "postponed" the expanded playoffs idea.

The idea will continue to be evaluated over the next year, but Goodell stressed scheduling issues and the importance of the regular seasons as factors.

i guess if you are not a top 6 you dont deserve to be in the playoffs anyway so IMO this is not really a big deal

One more team won't hurt the playoffs too much. Makes the top rank in the conference that more valuable. Some deserving teams have missed the playoffs because a sub .500 team wins their division. Wouldn't go past that though.

Eagles (if 7-seed) would have played at Green Bay. 7-team playoff means just one bye, which would have been Seattle.

Also 8 playoff teams could mean a Monday Night Doubleheader first round. The expansion to 7 teams would have meant tripleheaders Saturday-Sunday.

They were in like a 4-way tie for the 7-seed last year at 9-7, although I don't know off hand who would have gotten the seventh spot. Whoever it was would have gone to Denver and had a chance given Manning couldn't throw.

Philly was a playoff team until Sanchez took over.

That defense was a much bigger problem than Sanchez. Hard to win in the NFL, giving up 24+ every week.
