He'll make a fine backup for Brian Hoyer. Manziel was doomed for failure from the beginning, but I dont see McCown doing anything better than Hoyer provides.

you know honestly i think the reason they had to part ways with Hoyer is b/c they have so much invested in Manziel and it was pretty clear Manziel and Hoyer hated each other.

Browns signed QB Josh McCown to a three-year contract.

McCown was reportedly in talks with Buffalo before signing in Cleveland. He'll give the Browns a veteran to compete with Johnny Manziel, but isn't a lock to open the season as the starter. McCown went 1-10 for the Bucs last year while posting an 11:14 TD-to-INT ratio. He has experience with OC John DeFilippo during their time in Oakland. The Browns are moving on from Brian Hoyer and replacing him with McCown. Cleveland remains without a long-term answer at quarterback.

Josh McCown is a servicable back-up.

most teams are not going to win many games with their back up QB.

The Browns success or lack of success will come down to how Johnny plays.

Browns management is an absolute joke but this move upgrades their QB position. Obviously this isn't saying much. Hoyer has the worst skill set out of any NFL starter he can't throw outside the numbers or deep. I still can't believe he has won as many games as he has considering an NFL defense has to only cover a 15 yard box when playing Hoyer.

Looks to me that they don't want to go with Hoyer, and his potential ups and downs. McCown is older, and probably has a little more professional wisdom than Hoyer does. Probably will get the same result on the field, but Manziel and Shaw might see a better example of how to prepare, react to certain situations.

Does anybody here think that Ray Farmer was texting messages down to the field and Jimmy Haslam didn't know about it??? Farmer was sitting in the owners box right beside Jimmy!!!!! Yet Farmer is the one who gets penalized!!!! Just one more example of why this organization isn't going anywhere. They are the laughingstock of the league!!!
I agree with Grits--Haslam is a crook and should be behind bars.
