Has any ringer other than Ambrose even won a Sprint road race in recent years? Seems they are a dying breed.

ringers the last couple of years haven't even been competitive and their odds have reflected it

LT, Ambrose was not a ringer

Road courses were his specialty but he had a full-time ride from 2009-2014

the ringers I recall from recent years:

Said
Villenueve
Fellows

I don't know the last time a ringer won but it's been at least a few years.

Said has never won, I think his best finish in a race was 8th in 2010 (Sonoma).

Fellows has never won. Best finish 2nd, Watkins Glen, 2004.

Villenueve has never won. His accomplishment was being an idiot, thus earning the ire of many regular drivers. His best finish was 21st in 2007 (he's only raced in four total and probably never will again).

McDowell is a great road racer but don't think he'll have the car to do any better than mid field.

Owen Kelly was an Aussie ringer who ran a couple of times at Road America and I was hoping would turn up in a Cup car for a road event one day.

Andrew Ranger from Canada was a great white hope for ringers at one point too.

Would love to see one the displaced F1 drivers (there has been a lot of good ones in recent years that never got a real chance) turn up as a ringer.

With the Haas F1 team starting next year there might be more crossover interest between Euro and US racing in the next few years.

Had to go look it up. Forgot he had such a good ride. he ran in the #51 Cup car at the Glen 2 years ago too. For some reason I cant even recall that now.

Think the story went that KyleB spotted him as a ringer who took pole in the Rolex series race that supported the Xfinity Montreal race a few years back and gave him a run.

gotta believe it'll be ambrose, kyle b, and the penske boys, who have run road courses well as of late....... even ol man gordon cant' be counted out at the glen

and, darkhorse: many tony makes a run for the first time all season

donker, ambrose left the US after the 2014 season!

last year's WG came down to a finish between dinger and ambrose

like I said, left the US

he's doing his own stuff in Australia. He's not flying back in for US races at all

he drives V8 Supercars in Australia for Team Penske
