People are forgetting the ineligible guy cannot go down field and run fake routes. Just because someone is unprepared for something, doesn't make it cheap. It's smart. Taking your agreement further, should all trick plays be banned? After all a trick play is deceiving the defense, which seems to be the problem for some.

#72that's usually in the redzone, actually usually inside the 10 yard line. and teams usually don't snap it as fast as possible in those situations. trust me, I was in Indy vs Pats this year when LT Anthony Castonzo caught a TD pass!Originally posted by Double BogeyWhy is it not cheap to announce a tackle eligible. It's the same thing, but I don't hear anyone saying that's cheating.Comment -

#74Originally posted by BriGuyLike I said 3 times now: you're making sh*t up.
Well since you asked, OK.
NFL rules, Section 3, Article 1 - Reporting Change of Position:
"An offensive player wearing the number of an ineligible pass receiver (50–79 and 90–99) is permitted to line up in
the position of an eligible pass receiver (1–49 and 80–89), and an offensive player wearing the number of an eligible pass
receiver is permitted to line up in the position of an ineligible pass receiver, provided that he immediately reports the
change in his eligibility status to the Referee, who will inform the defensive team.
He must participate in such eligible or ineligible position as long as he is continuously in the game, but prior to each play he
must again report his status to the Referee, who will inform the defensive team. The game clock shall not be stopped, and
the ball shall not be put in play until the Referee takes his normal position."
Please show me the part where it says this is considered a substitution and the defense has to be given time to adjust. All is says it the ref has to be given time to get in position. It doesn't say a single word about giving the defense time to substitute. The key word is "immediately", i.e. when player enters the game, as what happens on tackle eligible plays. Not when player is leaving the huddle, just prior to the snap. The onus was on the referee to wait before taking his normal position. Like it or not, that's what upset Harbaugh.Originally posted by Double BogeyI don't see how it's different than announcing a player is eligible. As long as they announced the player number as ineligible, it's all on the defense to figure it out. To suggest that a defense should be given extra time to line up their defense is dumb. That's like saying the play should be held up if the defense gets out of their huddle too slow to line up.Comment -

#75According to the wording, he did just that. Informed the referee immediately before lining up. Seen it done the exact same way hundreds of times on tackle eligible. Nobody bitches about that because it's done all the time. It's really the same thing as evidenced by them being linked in the rule book.Comment -

Can't imagine a team owner giving a coach $10 million and saying go out there and win..but don't try and do all that you can do to win, take a loss if you don't feel comfortable with the rules that the NFL has put in place for all the teams to abide byComment -
