Hopefully its not Tommy John surgery. It is crazy how many pitchers get elbow ligament damage now these days. I dont know that the numbers are , but I bet it is a lot more then 10 years ago

I was actually wondering how much they have changed. I know that I didn't pay as much attention 10 years ago but it seems like I hear about much more

Rays placed LHP Matt Moore on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.

Moore was pulled from his start Monday against the Royals with elbow discomfort. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday morning and is still waiting for the results. It could be an extended absence for the 24-year-old left-hander.

          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matt Moore (elbow) will receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Tuesday that the first MRI on Moore's left elbow was inconclusive. It's never a good sign when a pitcher goes to see Dr. Andrews, but Friedman did add that Moore feels good. A clearer picture on the left-hander's status will be available after the meeting with Andrews, which will occur before the end of the week.

Is this his 3rd trip in as many years?

Not good when a young pitcher has all these issues. Some guys just arent durable.

              Strasburg, beachy etc.

This would hurt the Rays but they have an ability to bring pitching prospects in and develop them properly. Great drafting and a solid far system

I've seen a lot of people picking them to win the AL.

This kid is pretty solid and the Rays are good but they really can't afford to lose a big piece in their rotation like Moore.

I saw many people down on Matt Moore this season, but it looks like it will end very shortly. He has the UCL injury and that is almost a lock for Tommy John.

Yep, it is the UCL, something that basic rehab usually does not heal.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Matt Moore's left elbow injury involves his ulnar collateral ligament.

Passan says the left-hander could rehab the injury if the tear is small enough. However, even a minor amount of damage to the UCL usually ends up resulting in Tommy John surgery. Moore will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews later this week before a decision is made. The Rays and Moore's fantasy owners will be holding their breath until then.

It is official, Moore to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Moore tested out his elbow Monday with some throwing but evidently was still experiencing soreness. The left-hander was diagnosed last week with a torn ulnar collateral ligament, so it makes sense to go ahead and have the operation now rather than try rest and rehab, which almost never works. Moore figures to miss the beginning of the 2015 campaign.
