Maybe Mel Kiper will be more correct on his love for Johnny Football as compared to his love for Tim (no longer in the NFL) Tebow.
Kiper is a joke.
And a jerk

There is a lot of misinterpretation going on here. It is not Kiper's OPINION that Manziel is the #1 QB (although it might be, but that's not what we are talking about). As the thread title says, Kiper said that Manziel is the CONSENSUS #1 QB, meaning that of all the NFL executives he has had contact with, the majority of them have Manziel as the top QB.

agree on Manziel but Clowney is a beast. All the great ones are headcases. Remember how crazy Lawrence Taylor and Bill Romanowski were?
It just takes the right group of teammates and coach to keep him focused.

wrong LT Profits...Manziel is also #1 on Kiper's Big Board and Mock drafts meaning that he also is very high on the kid...and these are Kipers opinion and research that don't have anything to do with how other NFL executives feel about him.

OK that's fine, so he has Manziel #1 too. But that is beside the point, since he was talking about the consensus top QB and not necessarily his own.

I don't believe NFL GMs are telling Mel Kiper anything useful, if anything at all. At best, it's misinformation.

On a conference call on Thursday, ESPN's Mel Kiper disclosed Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel is the "consensus" No. 1 QB in NFL circles.
"For Cleveland, to see Manziel there would be a surprise to me," Kiper said. "When you talk to people in the league, he's the consensus No. 1 QB." We are a bit surprised by the news, since there are very few "consensus" top players at each position. We still would not be surprised to see Blake Bortles at No. 1 overall.

Lol fkn kiper had manziel #3 not too long ago now he talks with scouts and gets their word he switches up
His mock drafts are actually accurate most times cause he talks with league associates and gets their word on who certain teams like and puts them in his mocks. Wants to be that "see! Told ya so!" guy after the draft lol

who wouldnt wanna be the "told ya so" guy....i mean.....granted mel kiper has a better chance at being right than most people because of connections....but wouldnt we all like to put a play on the board and say "told you so" after the play wins??
mel isnt perfect....but nobody would be if they were analyzing every team and their needs....and trying to put prospects in line with that and make predictions......guy has alot of connections...is relevant...has been doing this for 30 years.....made a nice living off of doing something he loves....guy carved out a nice niche starting at a time when this thing wasnt as popular as it is now

I'm sure Dallas would do this in a heartbeat if it was at all feasible. But Romo will be 34 this year, no way Houston would entertain the idea of dealing the top pick for a guy nearing the homestretch.

I should have specified the commentary not in quotes is from Rotoworld, they were the ones "a bit surprised by the news". And it has been said previously that Coach O'Brien loves Bortles and he questions Manziel's work ethic.

I don't think it is clear at all which of the 3 is any better than the others and Clowney has to be one of the first 5 picks also.

hmmm this draft is going to be interesting, but the scouts will evaluate and Manziel will be dynamic when he gets to the pros. Its just a matter of system and coaching him to the next lvl.

houston should draft clowney and pick up michael vick in free agency.
also they should pick up jeremy maclin, and draft a running back in the second round.
vick knows maclin and this would make him comfortable, and along with andre johnson he'd have the weapons he needs. houstons defense would be stellar.
its a gamble for a year if vick can stay healthy, but it would make the texans an immediate contender.

He shouldn't make it past number 2 but there is going to be a quarterback frenzy a few teams might be willing to trade up to get one of the big 3 QB's in the top three picks.

As mentioned several times, O'Brien love Bortles. And based on what Otters27 posted in Post #103, management may not disagree. If you find a site offering futures on who the #1 pick will be and Bortles is a nice price, he is worth a pop.
