Jahvid Best - Maybe available Week 7

If you have room to stash him, pick him up. I grabbed him this morning before games started, so I didn't have to lose him to a higher waiver team.

I think he is worth a grab and stash, because the Lions backfield needs a spark, and J.Best is that spark.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday Countdown that the Lions are "hopeful" Jahvid Best (concussions, PUP) will be ready to play in Week 7 against the Bears, a Monday Night Football game.

Schefter cautioned that the Lions don't know anything for sure, but this is the hope for now. Best will go through a battery of concussion tests this week, at which point the organization will have a better idea of his true return timetable. It sounds like he could return to the lineup immediately if he passes the testing with flying colors. Best would likely assume a fairly significant role behind struggling Mikel Leshoure, being used ala Darren Sproles. He's worth grabbing in all fantasy leagues as a "stash" to see what happens.

I never intend to be mean, but Jahvid Best will be concussed within a game or two. I'm surprised he still playing football.

I didn't take it that way. Just doing a comparison.

I think he is worth a stash, and if he can produce like he did in the beginning of last season, it will be worth it.

He hasn't even taken the tests yet.

It's a risk, but if anyone has room, it is a risk that could turn good reward.

Plus it's tough to stash players now that we are in peak of bye season. I have a few injured guys on some teams, and when you add in byes, it is tough enough figuring out who to DROP when trying to pick up guys to fill lineups.

im not too sold on best...he wasnt really too great as a starter when he was healthy, and he's hardly ever healthy...could pay off but i just grabbed david wilson and alex green for now, at least green looks like he could be the back to take over in GB for my injured benson

Schwartz says RB Jahvid Best is in better shape now then when he was a rookie

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz confirmed to reporters Tuesday that running back Jahvid Best is going through “some return-to-play protocol” this week.

Best, who hasn’t played since suffering a concussion in a Week 6 loss to the 49ers last year, is eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list as early as next Monday. He could be eligible to play Oct. 22 against the Bears if independent neurologists clear him for contact.

“Those aren’t done by the people here; those are done by independent neurologists and everybody else,” Schwartz said. “The only thing we can do is wait for their opinion on it.”

If those opinions fall in the Lions’ favor though, it doesn't appear Schwartz would have any reservations playing Best. Schwartz said his third-year running back is in the best shape he’s been in since joining the Lions via a first round draft selection in 2010.

“He’s done very, very well,” Schwartz said. “He’s in the best shape he’s been since he was a rookie. He’s in better shape now than when he was as a rookie. He’s physically stronger. He’s smarter in our schemes, done a really good job being at meetings and those kind of things. He’s more flexible than he’s been. He’s worked extremely hard.

“This isn’t a guy that’s been on vacation for the last couple months. This guy’s worked extremely hard. But we try not to get ahead of ourselves. He’s doing what he can. When he gets clearance he’ll be back.”

If Best does get his clearance, expect his presence to be immediately felt on the field.

“He’s a game-breaker, no doubt,” center Dominic Raiola said of Best. “He’s a homerun hitter and hopefully things go well with him and we look forward to crossing that bridge when it comes.”

Your right, he doesn't do kick/punt returning.

He is explosive, and worth the risk, I feel anyway. Especially in PPR Leagues. If you can spare room on your bench.

He can easily break one to the house, like he did in the MNF game last year against the Bears (88 yard TD). M.LeShoure was suppose to relieve J.Best's workload last year, but got hurt in preseason. We will get to see how that works, if he passes all the tests this week to get back in action. I hope he does. I would love to get his production for nothing.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz refused to provide an update on Jahvid Best's concussion tests on Friday.

Best took the concussion tests on Monday. He anticipated receiving the results on Friday, but the Lions have apparently decided to keep them a secret. It's no surprise considering their approach to injury situations throughout GM Martin Mayhew and Schwartz's tenure. We still expect an update on Best by the weekend or perhaps early next week. Currently on the reserve/PUP list, Best is not eligible to resume practicing before Week 7, anyway.

Lions rule out Jahvid Best for rest of season

The Lions announced Monday that Jahvid Best (concussions) will not play football this season.

Detroit's offensive backfield will be Mikel Leshoure the rest of the way, with some Joique Bell mixed in. Doctors seemed conflicted on whether to medically clear Best, and the Lions ultimately made the likely-wise decision to shut him down for 2012. Best has suffered four concussions dating back to his final season at Cal. He's stated he won't give up trying to play football, but for now the outlook isn't pretty. Best can be dropped in all re-draft leagues. Only deep-league Dynasty owners can keep holding out hope.
