NFL insider Jason La Canfora confirms that RB Matt Forte (ankle) is not expected back for Week 4. Even though he supposedly avoided a high-ankle sprain, Forte was always likely to miss at least a couple weeks with what looked like a badly twisted ankle. He didn't practice at all this past week.
Broncos HC John Fox didn't reveal much about RB Willis McGahee's rib injury. He told us that it involved cartilage damage and labeled McGahee "day-to-day." These rib injuries usually come down to pain tolerance. We're not expecting McGahee to practice much this week. And he might end up as a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Raiders. If McGahee can't go, RB Lance Ball would likely draw the start, with RBs Ronnie Hillman and Knowshon Moreno also seeing action.
Marty Caswell of XX1090 Sports Radio in California reports that Chargers HC Norv Turner isn't pleased with RB Ryan Mathews' fumbling. The coach reportedly said there will be "specific times when his carries will be limited." It's fair to expect that Turner is referring to red-zone carries after Mathews fumbled at the 4-yard line in the loss to Atlanta. This is obviously not good news from the coach, but we won't overreact to it. The Chargers still gave Mathews 9 looks in Sunday's game after the fumble -- half of his 18 total for the day. The team didn't spend enough time near the goal line to decipher any trend there. Mathews fumbled 9 times over the previous 2 seasons, but he put the ball on the ground just once in the last 5 games of 2011.
From the Washington Redskins official Twitter account comes a quote from head coach Mike Shanahan that states wide receiver Leonard Hankerson has played "well enough to earn a starting job." In the two games Washington has played without the services of WR Pierre Garcon, Hankerson has six receptions for 124 yards and a score.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn, a former first round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, has been placed on injured reserve with a torn knee ligament
Kansas City Chiefs running back Peyton Hillis was seen in a walking boot due to an ankle injury Monday. He only saw three carries before exiting the game. The extra workload for Jamaal Charles led to him having 288 total yards and seven carries went to No. 3 back Shaun Draughn.
As Matt De Lima wrote about earlier today, a source has told the Palm Beach Post that Dolphins running back Reggie Bush may miss a few games due to his left knee injury. Well, apparently there's a chance that he misses no games. That's what ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted out Monday.
So, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford underwent that scheduled MRI on his right leg Monday. As has been head coach Jim Schwartz's modus operandi with injuries, he offered a no comment when asked what the MRI showed. However, Schwartz did say that a decision will be made on Stafford's availablility for Detroit's next game by Friday.
