#37I'm with Machine on this one ....
Here's some quotes in todays Philly papers which should shed some light on the mindset of temple ....
No one talks about last year's Owls, who, despite finishing 8-4 and bowl-eligible, weren't invited to an end-of-season game.
Addazio brought a new attitude and a Southeastern Conference background, having been offensive coordinator for Florida. It seemed like being denied a bowl appearance for the second straight season wouldn't happen.
But a loss Wednesday night at Ohio (8 p.m. kickoff, ESPN) could put Temple right back in that position.
"We've got to win," Temple star tailback Bernard Pierce said of the MAC game at Peden Stadium.
And he's right.
Having already lost to Bowling Green, the Owls (5-3, 3-2 MAC) can't afford to lose another division game. Temple heads into the much-anticipated matchup a half-game ahead of both Ohio (5-3, 2-2) and Miami of Ohio (3-5, 2-2), and a loss would drop the Owls behind those teams and Bowling Green (4-5, 2-3).
And unless Temple gets some help, it could finish second or third in the division.
As the Owls learned last season, finishing third in the MAC East means no bowl invitation
ATHENS, Ohio – Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney is scheduled to attend Temple’s Wednesday night game against Ohio.
Hurney and representatives from the New York Giants, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be on hand to scout players.
So who are they mainly coming to scout from Temple?
"Bernard Pierce," an Ohio source said of the junior tailback.
The source said the scouts also want to look at “a couple Owls linebackers and No. 6 [junior cornerback Maurice Jones.]”

#38i don't buy reasoning that Temple wants it more...game means just as much to the Bobcats, as they are in position to play for championship also. Temple ONLY weapon on offense plays into Bobcats defensive strength. Temple WILL pull their starting QB in this game, and perhaps might even shuffle in one of the other two on third downs. that doesn't work. that's desperation when it's week 9. Ohio is well coached, is well-rounded and will cover 3.5 pts.Comment -

#41First, you guys who insist on wagering on meaningless MAC games because they are on Television are just begging to give your money to the books. Look at last night's fiasco between NIU and Toledo. The problem with Temple is NOT their defense, but their offense. In two of their three losses, the defense gave up 14 and 13 points, but the offense could only score 10 points. This game also sets up very well for Ohio on a Technical basis, having covered the last three games against Temple, being 5-0 ATS after the Akron game, 7-1 ATS at home off a double diget ATS Win, and 6-1 ATS on weekday games. Temple is 1-5 ATS when they play weekday games, and 0-7 as a favorite with rest. That is why you pass on this game.
obvious you didn't get out of your mom's basement much in high school or college if you think this game, or any other is meaningless to the kids playing. last night many just undervalued a 4 year starter at qb and an o-line that has been together almost 2 full years now. also special teams played into what was a great game. people miss on the big games as well...but every time it happens on a mac game people say wacky or cry fix. temple looks just about as good as any other road fav in the big games on the weekend...their lines are always tempting. sometimes road fav's cover...and sometimes the home team gets up and we all say after the game no more road fav's of less than 4 points or some shit like that. temple is the clear play according to the way i cap my games, and tho i will go small because it is a weeknight game with my team on the road, i will not sweat it either way. just pick your games the way that has made you money, and quit worrying about all this other nonsense. maybe me or machine or others in this thread lose tonight...pickmaster and other "sharps" wanna-bes will talk about the public getting killed...but at the end of the year we will have made money with our style, and these guys will still have no posted record.Comment -

#42Ohio has problems with passing teams or balanced teams, Temple isnt balanced and if Stewart is starting tonight Ohio should be able to slow Temple's running game enough by loading the box. Ohio has a dynamic QB who can run and passes really well. Ohio has the edge in this one.Going back and forth on this one, not sure yet. Been watching some past games on XBOX, that is your friend people.Comment -

this dumbass must have blindly dumped his entire account on the lock that didn't cash last week...lol. why do people always have to turn these games into a "me against you" type of thing? i am starting to remember why i stopped posting picks a few years back. i mean you got bigdaddy talking down on anyone who bets weeknight games as a loser...this dude shouting fade to one of the better cappers here...and all this chest beating before and after the game. if you are a winning gambler over the long run then this is just another bet...and prolly a fairly small one at that. not anything to get all wrapped up in or bicker about.Comment -

IMO, Ohio has been very unimpressive this season. I only count one quality win against a team around their level (44-7 over Marshall), and discounting the one game against a superior opponent (26-38 loss to Rutgers), they've been playing weaker, less talented teams all year and still not managed to do anything of note.
If I play this game it would be a small play on Temple -3.5 or perhaps a Temple ML/Under parlay. Ohio is not a good bet.Comment -

#53FYI - i was at the RU/Ohio game at RU earlier this year. of course RU is no powerhouse, but they play good defense and have a 2nd round draft pick at WR, who toasted the backup Ohio corner all day (their #1 corner left to injury). total yards Ohio 404 to RU 410. 20 first downs to 25 for RU. Ohio starting RB was out for RU game, he is now healthy. RU RB had 29 attempts just to get 97 yards. RU also scored on special teams turnover. just sayin, was totally even played game, if not to Ohio advantage.
if you have never seen Ohio play, you will be suprised tonight. i have seen them twice, (and Temple once) and Ohio is the correct play here.Comment -

#69I'm going to keep backing the better teams in each matchup, come what may. I'm not backing the Ohio Bobcats (and their 145th-ranked SOS...there are FCS teams with tougher schedules so far) against a team that has stared down Penn State's defense and destroyed Maryland on the road. Sorry, just not happening. If I lose, I deal with it. But the Bobcats don't deserve shit until they prove something.Comment -

#70Sure does make the Solich-coached home dog of more than a field goal look tasty when the conventional wisdom is written on the walls... Not to me.

I enjoy Machine's threads and I like to read everyone's insight, but to say Ohio is not a good bet is about as FAR off as anyone can get on any game. This game can go either way, and I can make logical arguements for both teams. However, betting on a team that is almost identical in talent with a very very good head coach is never a bad bet at home getting more than a FG. Trust me, I know Temple can win and cover this game, but Ohio is certainly not by any means a bad bet. It is actually a bet with a lot of good value. Again, this game can go either way for sure.Comment
