Anyone applying full homefield advantage in this game is overestimating. There will be a substantial number of LSU fans in the crowd and the game has been so long in coming that LSU isn't going to be shaken by the hostile environment.

Not really what I meant. HFA is so variable among teams, and I normally give top teams like Alabama/Oklahoma/Boise 5-6 points in HFA and the smaller market teams as low as 2.5 points. This makes sense for a regular game, but in a lot of games teams just don't deserve full credit for HFA. I feel like in the big games like this one, the teams are so well prepared for the matchup, so far in advance, that the crowd is actually less effective in affecting the road team. I've seen a noisy stadium in a big game have unexpected negative effects on the home team too many times to believe otherwise.

That's using the handy equivalent of home field advantage = 3 points. That 3-point advantage is an average, based on all teams. Is Alabama's advantage equal to the average? Greater? Less?

The only way to measure this is to look at Alabama's average away score and average home score over many seasons, filtering out all non-FBS opponents and any other opponents where they don't have a home-and-home series.
