Touts suck, can't predict the outcome of a game better than you or I, so why would you pay them to lose your money to the book?

I'm not a fan of touts either, but I'm not convinced that betting in any way, shape or form is a particularly virtuous pursuit.

If I could, I'd walk away. I yearn for the good ole days when the only spread that interested me involved two long, shapely legs...

I actually like this discussion here.

I think of tout’s much in the same light I think of drug dealers and used car salesman. They prey on the weak and desperate but if that market wasn’t available to them then they wouldn’t exist.

Actually I don’t think so harshly of the tout’s. I mean yeah there are some, maybe even most that are playing both sides of the game to different players or through partnership with multiple other services but I imagine there are a few that make an effort to have at least some integrity and only offer what they feel is correct. Even if that’s not the case again it comes back to the simple fact that if there was no market there would be no service.

Not gonna lie, if I was good enough and if the opportunity presented itself I would gladly accept money for plays.

Life is hard enough for a sports bettor: Stigmatized by society, illegal in every state except nevada, and yet we plow ahead analyzing info, watching boring game after boring game. I've spent three hours before breaking down siena vs manhattan on a wed night basketball game with 200 fans in attendance.

Betting is a noble pursuit in my book, but touts tarnish it with their perverse schemes, crooked bastards that they are. If i saw a tout on fire, i'd piss on his ashes and then shit on the grave.

Machine, you may not sell your picks for money, but you do post your picks for a reason. Why would you post your plays? My guess is that you want the recognition. You want to be seen as a great handicapper; somebody that is really good at what they do. You want to feel good about yourself, while others are content with just accepting the money instead of praise.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Machine---agree completely.

And as Wal pointed out, a tout is akin to a drug dealer. A tout is not skilled enough to win on his own wagers, so he "sells" his picks---knowing full well that in order for his "client" to actually win money---the tout has to hit at a clip way north of 70%.

One of the reasons I like SBR so much is they usually do a pretty solid job at sorting out the touts pretty quickly and getting their threads moved out of the subforums. They drove Jay Schapp out of here, but I am certain he is posting under a new name.

There's some warped views going on here. I get it, though. You got the assholes like Joe Wiz and Brandon Lang who win close to 80% every single freakin week, and that's just fukked up. But I'm not going to hate on every single tout out there. I see nothing wrong with a guy selling his picks. If Machine wanted to sell his picks, awesome. He's good at what he does, so go for it. I really don't get the mass hatred over all touts.

Here's why touts are scum. What they do is predatory. People paying them are guys who can't afford to pay them. They are barrelled in, and they are paying goofy sums of money for a pick that the client can get for free.

You can't find a tout that can hit at a percentage required that would justify the cost. And all it takes is one bad pick from the tout, and the guy paying for those picks is buried even deeper. And he isn't coming out anytime soon.

Most touts suck the big wazoo, but there are a few decent (at best) ones out there.

But with all the great free info here on SBR, why would one want to pay someone to loose their money for them? I don't and never will!
