They should be pretty tough and if they were in one of the conferences, they would be the favorite most likely. But they have a pretty tough schedule so it will be a hard road.

Thoughts? Know what you are talking about. Yes BYU has a lot of experience returning. No they are not good enough to go to any other Bowl Game except the Pointsettia Bowl, the Bowl Game they are assigned to if they win 6 games or more.

Lot of talent but not much back at WR and they have a brand new coaching staff. I've heard Detmer wants to move to a pro style offense and go away from the no huddle. Lot of moving parts but yes, they do have great talent at QB and RB back, as well as 4 OL

BYU opens with three straight games against Pac 12 South Conference teams. They play a "neutral site" game against Arizona in Glendale AZ, then go to Utah before hosting UCLA. They also go to Landover MD to face West Virginia and have games at Michigan State and Boise State. The will do very well to end up 3-3 in those 6 games. They could go 0-6.

Take byu against utah + the points. Byu will be a moneymaker this year. Great new coaching staff and ty detmer will keep quarterback on point. Also defense always good as well.

Tough team to get a handle on, but now, with the Big 12 back in the expansion game, their game vs Big 12 team West Virginia becomes critical to them. If they cannot defeat a middle-of-the-road Big 12 team, their chances of getting into the Big 12 are very poor, at best.
