LOS ANGELES -- After helping turn around the UCLA football program, coach Karl Dorrell agreed to a new five-year contract, the school announced Friday.

Dorrell's deal includes guaranteed compensation of $850,000 per year plus a new incentives package with a maximum of $505,000 and runs through the 2010 season. He can earn an additional $500,000 if he fulfills the entire five years of the agreement.

The original contract Dorrell signed prior to being hired in 2003 paid him $600,000 per year plus incentives.

In 2005, UCLA won 10 games for only the seventh time in school history, finishing the season with a 50-38 victory over Northwestern in the Sun Bowl.

"We are excited about the direction of the program," athletic director Dan Guerrero said. "Karl is an outstanding leader, and we feel the future of UCLA football is very bright with him in control."

Dorrell has posted a 22-15 record in three seasons.

"There is no place I would rather be coaching than at UCLA," said Dorrell, a wide receiver at the school during his playing days. "My goal, and the goal of our staff, players and administration, is to keep building this program to the level necessary to compete for the Pac-10 title every year and contend for the national championship."
