#4The ratings are in from Wednesday night’s UFC-a-thon; a night that showcased a UFC Fight Night event from Belo, Brazil, along with the premiere of the highly anticipated TUF: Tate vs. Rousey series.
According to the UG’s ‘MMALogic,’ the UFC Fight Night prelims pulled 270k viewers, 539k viewers for the main card, and TUF:18 grabbed 762k viewers.
In comparison, Bellator’s most recent card (Bellator 97) pulled 676k, and also aired on a Wednesday night.
UFC president Dana White responded to the reported numbers in a thread on the UG:Disastrous? MMALogic is pretty good but he’s way off on this one. We were #1 on all of cable with M18-34 and M18-49. We also beat out the US Open and the Detroit vs. Red Sox MLB game. This is all part of the building process. We’ve made a commitment to work with FOX to build this network. If you look at all the other networks we’ve ever been on, we consistently pull strong ratings.
The first time we put our prelims on FX, we pulled 880K viewers and it grew, depending on the fight, up to 1.9 million viewers for UFC 156. Also, the TUF season with Carwin and Big Country averged 822K viewers, then Jones vs. Sonnen averaged 1.3 million viewers.
We currently hold the top 4 most watched telecasts on FS1 since the network launched. To be honest, our Prelim and Fight Night numbers weren’t bad considering we started on the west coast at 2pm in the afternoon on a Wednesday. The most important thing is last nights fights were awesome and this season of TUF is great.
Yes, we didn’t pull 1 million+ but we will. But, we also ****ed up last night by not starting the main event later so that we could get a live lead into TUF. The bottom line is FOX couldn’t be happier with the UFC and the ratings we’re pulling and we couldn’t be happier with the way we have been treated by the network.
Yes ****ers my secretary typed this not me.

#5Those numbers are actually very good.
FS1 is brand new and literally every other show on the network is getting ATROCIOUS ratings. Golden Boy boxing got 30k, LOL! That's not a typo, it really did get only 30k. Meanwhile their Sportcenter ripoff gets like 100k.
You can't compare these numbers for TUF and UFN to what their did on FX or especially Spike. And as for UFN 28 drawling less viewing than UFN which was also on FS1, that makes perfect sense as well. UFN 27 was hyped and marketed like hell along with the launch of FS1, as the network's big attraction for that day. However, UFN 28 was a MUCH worse card and it received like 5% as much marketing, plus it was the 3rd event in a 7 day span.
TUF's rating have dropped just about every season because no one gives a shit, so a ratings decline would be expected even if it was still on FX. However, the numbers it managed to pull on FS1 are actually impressive when, again, you consider the circumstances.
So the numbers the UFC still managed to pull despite the circumstances are actually very good.Comment -

#7I think the ufc would be smart to make it once a year. Two times a year was fine when the show was still a fresh idea, i just don't think any sort of tweaking can help at this point. Maybe even a small hiatus for a year or two wouldn't be so bad. I think the numbers they're pulling are acceptable for fsn. Nothing else on the channel so far is even close to comparable.Comment -

#9Luca is right. FS1 is a totally new channel that heaps of people are not aware of and this is a strong start. Zuffa also has a few big-buy PPV cards coming up... Jones at 165 will likely sell okay; trilogy HW title fight at 166 is good money as people like heavyweights; GSP fighting in November which is always great sales; then Weidman Silva II with Tate/Rousey which will do huge PPV buys.Comment -

All this does is just hurt the core fan base by trying to reach new audiences you're ignoring those who got you there in the first place. This women's shit is just fuking weak.Comment -

Basketball has 1 game in 1 arena on 1 day. So there would be no point in putting female and male players together in the same league. They would have to treat it like 2 separate leagues, which is what they do. And for clarification, they call them the NBA and WNBA.
That's different that the UFC which puts on events with multiple fights on the card. Therefor, it makes sense to have women and men in the same league, on the same shows. Why would they make all women's cards and all mens'a cards? That'd be dumb. That's like saying that each weight class should be a separate league and they should only do all welterweight events, all lightweight events, etc.
Tennis does the same thing as the UFC since it's a similar format. They have the men and women play at the same events on the same day, separated by the men's and women's sides -- just like the men's bantamweight division and the women's bantamweight division.Last edited by Luca Fury; 09-08-13, 02:16 AM.Comment -

I watch fights for the skills displayed and she is lacking in that department as well. She's a completely one dimensional grappler beating up a very unskilled pool of women. Female versions of male sports are always far less skilled and far less enjoyable to watch, which is why their ratings are so much worse. It will always be like this, since men are genetically superior athletes. It's the way we're designed.
So I'm not much of a fan of WMMA. FARRRR less skilled fighters than the men's side. Give a male fighter the exact skills and traits that Ronda has, and they wouldn't even cut it in Bellator -- seriously. She's lucky the women she's fought have no clue no how to stuff a takedown or keep distance to save their lives. If she ever fights Cyborg, she will get crushed and I will be all over Cris as a dog.Comment -

Then he opens it 2 days later at -175, which is already 45 cents lower that what he claimed was already too low (-220). Funny how he claimed my opinion didn't mean shit, yet he opened it 45 cents than where he intended. -175 was still too high, as it was immediately bet down to around -130, where I said it should be. Now, months later, the line is hovering between -115 and -150 for Anderson, which is right where I said it should have been from the start.
I had a lot of fun laughing at Joey after that, considering he claimed he would rub it in my face when his alleged opener of -220 would be bet up even higher.
There's a reason Joey almost never opens the lines. I still laugh at him opening Chris Weidman -365 vs Maia in a fight that he took on 1 week notice while not even in training camp so he had to cut 40 pounds of weight in a week. Even with a full camp -365 would have been batshit crazy. Not surpisingly, the line was bet down to a pick em like 10 minutes after he opened it.Comment -

#19Also, Joey will tweet out a bet like once for UFC card. No joke, I cannot remember the last time one of these won. They lose very single time.
Last card, it was Arantes -275 who he said was "the most undervalued fighter on the card." Well, I was on the other side, the big underdog Souza, and even picked him outright and gave him out as a premium play. Souza broke his hand in the first round yet still won a decision. LMAO at -275 Arantes being "the most undervalued fighter on the card." Souza should have been at least -150.Comment -

It was only 4k, so you'd think they wouldn't care and would pay me quickly over 2 checks. Nope! Did 2 checks that never came that cost extra because they were supposed to be there in 1 week as opposed to the standard 30 day checks. They never came. I kept asking customer service and they kept saying they're coming. NOPE! After months of this, I told them to fukk off and cancel the checks so I could withdraw with a book-to-book transfer instead. NOPE! They had a shit ton of restriction, like having to have withdrawn from them using another method at least 5x first.
So my only choice was Western Union with a bullshit $800 limit and a $100 fee. Yep, that's right, 12.5% fee to withdraw. Unreal. I had to do 6 of those to get the little over 4k I had in there. I'm so glad I didn't like them and chose to withdraw from there at 4k instead of adding more. It saved more so much trouble then if I didn't find this out until I had 5 figures in there.
This happened to someone else I know after me, so it doesn't seem to be an anomaly. Moral of the story, fukk BetOnline. They're slow-paying scammersComment -

#25Did you happen to see him and I argue on Twitter over the Silva/Weidman 2 line? He said he would open it -220 for Anderson and I told him he was insane. That'd be HIGHER than what Anderson closed at for the first meeting. I told him it should be Anderson -130. He told me he can't wait to rub it in my face when he opens it that high and the public bets it even higher.

I think she's very straight-laced and a good ambassador for the sport. Rousey is a bit on the dumb side and is a terribly moody and childish person. Judging by her reaction to how she was treated during the filming of TUF, I'd be surprised if she stayed in MMA for too much longer anyway.Comment -
