Melendez steps in to face Al Iaquinta

Following a close split decision loss in his fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 188, Gilbert Melendez will make a quick turn around to face Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night in San Diego airing live on FOX Sports 1 from San Diego on July 15.


Melendez steps in to replace Bobby Green, who was removed from the fight due to injury earlier in the day on Wednesday.

Good fight..

I bet on Gilbert in high altitude up in bean town last week and lost my arse, some say Gil got robbed in that fight decision though!!!.. Flip side Al got really lucky in his last decision win against Masvidal.. Al really got rocked early, beat down and worked standing in that fight.. Gilbert doesn't move or strike as well as Masvidal so this is a tricky fight to pick..

The irony runs deep in this match up if anything else as both fighters are coming off very questionable W/L decisions.....

Were did he get robbed? JUst cause he had a good 1st round don't mean anything if u lose the next two slightly. He looked like shit in round two and three. Alvarez did just enuf to win both of those round. they both sucked.

Gil won the 1st 2 rounds and Eddie won the 3rd round because Gil gassed out.. 29-28 Gil is what I saw... Eddie Alvarez's face was busted up as Gil caused way more damage... Robbery....
