#180Back in 2007, the UFC boss and Tito’s rivalry hit an all new height and the two were actually going to fight each other. UFC President Dana White got licensed by the Nevada State Athletic commission. He also filmed an entire reality series (that aired on SPIKE) around the bout, and after a full training camp, Dana, was left on the side-lines and Tito Ortiz just never showed up.
Now we have Dana White bringing back those old memories at today’s media event and here’s a snip: (Transcribed by MMAFighting.com)
“Believe me. I’m not trying to sound like a tough guy and I don’t talk about the thing a lot, but I was ready, in great shape and Tito bailed on that thing because Tito knew he was going to get his ass whooped on national television… If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t do it. If I knew Tito was going to bail out of the thing, I would’ve never done it. I had to have nose surgery after all that stuff, getting ready for that fight. I was sparring with real guys. I brought in real pro heavyweights, young guys that were literally beating the shit out of me every day. It was not fun.
“The reality is with me is Tito knew. Tito knew. Tito had Jenna call negotiating like two weeks before the fight that he wanted to switch it to no head gear. Because this was supposed to be an amateur fight. So, he wanted to switch to no head gear. I said, ‘Fine. We’ll go no head gear.’ They wanted to switch to 8 ounce gloves. I said, ‘Ok, we can do 8 ounce gloves.’”
“The reality is I used to beat the living shit out of Tito Ortiz back when we first bought this company and we used to box.”
“Now, if Tito would’ve made this an MMA fight, I would’ve never said yes because Tito would murder me. He would double leg me, elbow my face off and rip my head right off my shoulders in an MMA fight. That’s not what he asked for. He asked for a boxing match with me and I would’ve beat the living shit out of Tito. And he knows it and that’s why he didn’t do it.”

#181In 2013, flyweight had the second-highest finishing rate, after heavyweight.
Sort of not hard when you're fighting Uyenoyama and Formiga, but it should be a surprise to the casuals.Comment -

I don't think the reason for increased finishes at flyweight is because of a lack of adequate sample size, but because of a lack of competition. Joseph Benavidez could make a career out of knocking out guys like Jussier Formiga.Comment -

#188Munhoz opened at -380? Somebody really likes munhoz. Nunya did bring up a good point tho. He didn't impress against the less talented Curran. A stab at +1000 (my books price) seems in order. Small obvs. For what it's worth i really like Ortega tonight Against a poor man's Erik Koch. He got this.Comment -

Dana White Says Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva “Literally Fought” on the TUF Brazil 3 Set
Although many people thought that Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva may have been playing up their feud heading into filming of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3, it appears that there’s some real fire behind the flames.

UFC president Dana White on Monday told MMAWeekly.com that the two coaches got into an actual physical confrontation while on set earlier in the day in Brazil.
“Wanderlei and Chael fought. Just today. They literally fought,” White said after hesitating about whether or not he should reveal the reality series incident.
He didn’t have a lot of details yet, but said there was a physical confrontation between the two and that at least one other person from Silva’s team was involved.
“While they were fighting, one of Wanderlei's guys sucker punched Chael,” White continued. “It went on for awhile.”
Sonnen and Silva are supposed to fight in a bout inside the Octagon after the reality series concludes, not so much on the set of the show. Of course, such incidents can be good promotional fodder, but past competitors on the show have been booted for fighting on the set outside of competition.
“It’s on a reality show; it’s good and it’s bad,” said White. “A fight didn’t need to break out between these two for people to be excited about this fight (after the show), because these two have been at each other’s throats.”
Sonnen and Silva have been tossing barbs at each other via social media and in person for years, but now it’s finally led to fisticuffs.
Now the question is: will they make it to their actual fight in the Octagon or is their feud too hot for the UFC to handle?Comment -

#198If you are thinking of sending any ill-worded messages towards a fighter via social media for whatever reason, you better cross former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva off of your hit list.
Apparently “The Spider” is a little more than sensitive in regards to being disrespected by fans, especially if it’s on twitter. As the MMA legend has apparently filed a police report against a Brazilian woman who tweeted some less than favorable comments regarding the former champ (via a report from MMAFIGHTING.com)According to the chief of police in Pinhais, Marcelo Magalhaes, the UFC star felt offended when a woman called him “rotten” on Twitter.I’m not going to say anything about Anderson’s actions myself, as I don’t want to be receiving any phone calls from Brazilian police. But, I will say that I personally find this to be rather ridiculous. What do you think Penn Nation, is Anderson possibly overreacting just a little?
“We’re still investigating to get her name, address and phone,” Magalhaes told Globo. “It’s a 40-year-old woman who wrote on the internet, in a social media, several phrases, including ‘Brazil will see the idol and rotten that you are’.”
In an interview with a local radio station, Magalhaes said that the woman also called Silva a “Shitty Idol.”
The process is expected to go to court next. The penalty for this type of crime in Brazil is up to six months in jail, or a fine.

#201Brazilian Penal Code sets the penalty at up to six months, but nobody goes to jail because of that. If condemned, that penalty shall be replaced by a "pena restritiva de direito", which means she'll probably have to do some charity work or whatever (209, mofos).Comment -

#203but what exactly was the crime? publicly stating a negative opinion? it sounds similar to our libel and defamation laws in the u.s., but those laws apply to factual statements that are false -- they dont apply to opinions.Comment -

"He just raped some girl" = calúnia
"He's a homo" = difamação
"He's rotten" = injúria
All three (calúnia/difamação/injúria) are considered "crimes contra a honra" ("crimes against the honour").Comment -
