                        Nate Quarry...

Here's something that may interest you. And I'll give some back story details you may not know as well.
I cornered Randy Couture for quite a few of his fights so he can add some clarification if I'm off on the details. When Randy was defending his belt, he did not get a new one. Generally the UFC would bring in a belt, strap it on him, we'd walk off and they'd take it back. That sounds like what has happened here.
BUT when you lose the belt, you still keep the one you had won and the UFC gives the other belt to the new champ. So Randy has quite a collection from winning the title in a couple weight classes a few times. So when his eye was grazed by the glove, resulting in a redesigning of the glove, Vitor won a new belt and when Randy came back and beat Vitor then Randy was awarded a new belt.
So unless I'm mistaken, GSP should have two belts, his winning the belt from Hughes then winning it back against Serra.
I don't know if it's like it was back then, but there was one generic belt for all weight classes and I think it read "middle weight".
But here's the really interesting thing, the UFC OWNS the belt and can reclaim it at any time. It's in the contract. However, to the UFC's credit, even through all the drama and battles between champs, ex-champs and the UFC I've never heard of the UFC reclaiming a belt.
                        Now you know...

Mika Nagano Retires, New Fights Added To Deep Jewels 3 CardBy Robert Sargent & Go Yamamoto on December 28, 2013 Mika Nagano Retires, New Fights Added To Deep Jewels 3 CardJapanese star Mika “Future Princess” Nagano has confirmed plans for her retirement from mixed martial arts in early 2014. Nagano is the latest in a string of recent retirees and she will compete in a final exhibition match at Deep Jewels 3 on February 16th in Tokyo. The news was announced today.Deep Jewels producer Yasuko “Pink Spider” Mogi also retired from active competition today, and she has stepped down as the matchmaker for the all-female promotion. In two new bouts added to Deep Jewels 3, Shizuka Sugiyama faces Mizuho Sato and Sachiko Fujimori takes on Shiori Hori.Nagano (14-9-0) has been one of the most popular female fighters in Japan since her MMA debut for Smackgirl in late 2007 and she competed on 18 of the 26 cards promoted by Smackgirl’s successor, Jewels. Her hopes of becoming a Jewels champion were dashed as a result of untimely losses, but the talented grappler remained in the championship picture for more than two years. When Jewels merged with Deep to form Deep Jewels earlier this year, Nagano entered into the new promotion’s inaugural 114-pound lightweight title tournament in hopes of finally capturing a prestigious championship. However, at Deep Jewels 2 this past month, Nagano dropped a Unanimous Decision to Emi Tomimatsu in a tournament semi-final rematch. With her hopes of becoming a champion once again put on hold, Nagano, who turns 30 on December 29th, has opted to step away from MMA in order to pursue other interests. She joins Megumi Fujii, Hitomi Akano, Hiroko Yamanaka and Kikuyo Ishikawa, among others, on the sidelines as the latest retiree in 2013.Jewels faced criticism at times for heavily promoting Nagano in spite of her inability to earn a title fight in the promotion, but Nagano won six of seven fights prior to her loss to Tomimatsu in November and many observers felt that she had deserved to win a December 2011 bout against “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi that ended in a contentious Split Decision in Yamaguchi’s favour.Nagano’s departure leaves a big hole on the Deep Jewels roster that the promotion will attempt to fill by developing new stars in the coming year. It will do so with a new matchmaker as a result of today’s announcement that Mogi (3-10-0) will also be retiring. Mogi was once one of the most talented female grapplers in Japan, but the 44-year-old has struggled in recent MMA fights and she leaves the sport after losing seven straight bouts. Two fights were confirmed today for the Deep Jewels 3 card. In one, top star Shizuka Sugiyama (10-3-1) takes on Mizuho Sato (6-5-1) in an open-weight bout. Sugiyama is unbeaten in her past five fights, but she is coming off of a disappointing Majority Draw against Ji Yun Kim this past month. Sato also fought to a Draw in her most recent fight against Kyoko Kimura at Pancrase Progress Tour 1 in early 2012. A second fight at Deep Jewels 3 pits Sachiko Fujimori (2-0-0) against newcomer Shiori Hori (0-0-0).Deep Jewels 3 takes place on February 16, 2014 at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The event features a three-round Deep Jewels Lightweight Championship bout between Mizuki Inoue and Emi Tomimatsu.

Yeah. He can make more money working full time for Home Depot. When Cody McKenzie came out in basketball shorts (with a price tag still on) on the main card on Fox TV it made the UFC look bush league. Most of these UFC fighters get punched in the head for peanuts.

He was there, bouncing at the weigh-ins, staring at me. I told him backstage 'if you ever do that again, I’ll stab you with a pen.’ That’s what happened," Brandao said.

"Every time he saw me at the hotel he kept staring at me, and I responded asked what was the problem, if he looking like that because he was hungry or what. When he got inside the cage I saw he was scared. He got lucky (to win)." - Diego Brandao

UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz, was arrested last night following a one-car pileup on a Los Angeles freeway in the early morning hours. KTLA has the story:
The popular athlete, whose birth name is Jacob Christopher Ortiz, was taken into custody around 4:00 a.m. after a single-car collision near of on the 405 Freeway near Sepulveda and Santa Monica boulevards, the CHP said.
"Ortiz was driving northbound on the I-405 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the concrete center median," the press release said.
Ortiz signed with Bellator last year and was set to fight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in that promotion's first pay-per-view. That event was moved to free TV when Ortiz suffered a broken neck in training.
He is also managing the career of former women's Strikeforce champ Cris Cyborg and has been going through a messy break up with his porn legend spouse Jenna Jameson.
Rest assured Bloody Elbow will keep you updated on this important story.

WSOF challenges Bellator to 'winner take all' pay-per-view event featuring bouts between organizations' fighters

"It's 2014 and the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) is coming out swinging.
As the organization gets prepared to stage their eighth event on January 18th, WSOF Executive Vice President and Matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz joined Ariel Helwani on Monday's The MMA Hour to start the new year off with a bang. His idea? WSOF has formally challenged Bellator to have WSOF's best fighters take on Bellator's best in a 'winner take all' pay-per-view event.
"Listen, a lot of people said Bellator number two and a lot of the media said Bellator is number two, but I believe it's all about winning. If we line up nine of our guys and nine of their guys, I believe we'll win,' Abdel-Aziz said.
"We are number two, strong number two," he continued. "At the end of the day, it's about the fighters and the fan. It's the entertainment business. We're here to entertain. Honestly, sometimes I get people saying we're number four. Some people put Invicta before us, but I can prove everyone wrong by doing something
"Officially on your show, I will challenge Bellator, live on pay-per-view, ten fights - nine-fight challenge, one super fight."

In green are who I think would win each fight. Some of those are just horrible matchups for one side, I have no idea why WSoF would want to see Arlovski vs Minakov, or Fitch vs anyone.
