great play here in my opinion...one is on his way out, one is on his way in.
Black athleticism vs white guy with no ability.

I don't like Shields here, but I don't like Woodley, either. The Hieron fight is the least-Woodley Woodley fight of all time, he'd have trouble knocking out Bob Sapp. Goes Distance is probably a solid play here.

I agree that his early "fights" in strikeforce(if you can even call them that) were him literally just laying on his opponent. But, he was primarily a wrestler to begin with and I think he has improved his striking and deserves a little bit of credit. He did look ridiculously powerful in his UFC debut. I definitely can't place a bet on shields at this stage of his career that's for sure.

Shields could turn this into the most boring fight he ever had and that is saying a lot. Thank goodness the UFC finally figured out you don't put Shields on a card with Okami or Lentz. 3 card killers.

Agree here. Yea, I'm not high on Shields, but I haven't been high on Woodley either. Woodley got 1 KO and now he is a beast in peoples eyes. Woodley is the biggest lay and prayer there is. Shield's striking sucks, but it is surprisingly effective vs. some fighters. He at least stays busy and throws kicks. Woodley should be favored because of athleticism and explosiveness (potentially). But this could go either way. We never know what we get from Shields. If Shields somehow looks good, he could drag Woodley down and get his back pretty easy.

Shields has a solid chin, and he's sticky as glue, if he can push him on the cage and drag him to the ground, he could get the sub, even though he hasn't done so in a long time. But I believe Tyrone Biggums BJJ game is pretty untested, he hasnt had a fight against a half decent ground fighter. If it hits +190 or more I gotta take a stab. His last line against Herman was a gift.
Anyone know what Shields failed his post fight drug test for?

After Shield's performance in the Henderson fight, there is no way that I could bet against him against a C+/B level fighter, especially when that fighter is favored as much as he is. The biggest named fighter that Woodley has ever faced beat him.

I don't know. Sheilds has fought and beat better strikers than Woodley. I can see him grinding a decision here.

U mean the Henderson who had all kinds of back issues among other things in that fight? There is a reason he tried to take Shields head off in the first 20 seconds and almost did it.

I don't want to hear excuses about his back. Dan didn't even make excuses after he lost. I watched the fight. Shields somehow survived that first round onslaught and worked his gameplan. Woodley is no Henderson.

I honestly thought that Woodley should have lost to Jordan Mein.
Coming off a 36-second knockout of Jay Hieron in his UFC debut, Tyron Woodley will be looking to deliver another impressive performance when he meets former welterweight title challenger Jake Shields on June 15 at UFC 161.
on his way out boys
surprised shields has lasted this long. He walks forward like a gimp and has the worse athleticism i have seen from any MMA fighter. His muscles are not capable of moving quickly.

Will Jake be the man to break the Cesar Gracie curse and actually win a fight in 2013? This shit is going down the drain, time to go to the unemployment office Cesar
Hard to put a play on a guy who has been off a year. Funny how the world changes fast though, I don't think that many people would have found value in playing Woodley against Shields a year ago or so.

well if u want to be ignorant have at it. 30 seconds before the match started both announcers were talking about it. How has Shields done since that? The guy is one deminsional. He got all excited in his match with St Pierre after poking him in the eye and acting like he actually punched him. Ellenberger destroyed him and for goodness sakes he almost got subbed by Shitty Miller. His big wins are all controversial. The guy is just average and that is why the bookmakers have him a dog against a guy who really is still a rookie in this sport. Seems like a nice guy tho.

His father had just died before the Ellenberger fight though. And he has beaten a murderers row, one dimensional or not. I really do want to know if he tested positive for roids though, or just something recreational.
Hope he remembered to call No homo on those pics though..

Who did he beat that was murderous row? Okami ten years ago? Go watch that fight and you tell me if he really won it if you can stay awake the whole fight. Condit 15 years ago? Brain dead Chapman who most thought won? The guy is a decent fighter and nothing else. Those fighters are a dime a dozen now. The game has past him. He can win this fight tho but im sure he will look silly most of it. He has no power and the guy he is fighting can wrestle just like he can. I would probably bet him in this fight just because of the odds and nothing else. Not like Woodley is a killer himself.
