I actively traded about a half dozen coins in 2020, making several hundred trades. Overall I returned about 3% collectively. But I ran into the problem I described. Once I kept buying coins on a slide and ended up with no cash in the account and a lot of coins that I had to take losses on. Similar on a move upward, sold all the coins leaving lots of cash and no coins. Had to start over at a higher price point.

The process was time consuming each morning to download the previous day's prices, run the program, enter about a dozen buys/sells at limit prices, update transaction records, etc. I finally decided to forgo this work and simply buy and hold. (I do share the view that large upward moves will continue.) In its place, I moved my attention to developing a soccer system. I am just a single old man, working alone, and have limited time available. Hence my priorities change.

I may revisit trading cryptos but only if I can automate the process more, including API's to make the trades. A significant effort and not yet at the top of my priority list.

Nice work. I do something similar but at much smaller percentages and get caught now and then. Sold a small percentage of ETH on the Yellen news. That move may turn out bad.

The price of something years after you sell it has no bearing on whether the decision to sell was "correct" or not! You can't sell something for a HUGE gain and then sit there and watch the price to see whether your sell decision was "right" or not! Otherwise you'd just never sell your whole life and then right before you die you could figure out at what point in your life you SHOULD have sold at the highest price in order for it to be considered the "right" decision! LOL

But I have to sell in order to reap a single dime of gains! Then what if all my stocks go up even more after I sell? Why would I care? When do I stop staring at the stock market every day and stop looking at how much my portfolio has gone up (or down) that day and instead sell the stuff and reap the benefits? I know I will NEVER sell if I am going to "worry" about how much money I would have had nine years from now if I hadn't sold for huge gains!

In that case, he should be setting aside large chunks for his favorite charitable causes.

Personally, if I had a billion, I'd make a plan and outsource the day-to-day stuff and not sweat the market. Focus on doing good.

Why would it be all or nothing?

Obviously don't take excess risk that could imperil your own plan. Just reallocate and diversify from time to time based on your needs and goals to ensure that you will have more than you could ever need and then put the rest to use in a way that will make you happy.

U.S. President Joe Biden has frozen the Federal regulatory process, including the controversial self-hosted crypto wallet regulations proposed by former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

The move was announced in a White House memorandum for the heads of various federal agencies, including the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). It does not specify the crypto wallet proposal, but places a general freeze on all rules pending review, effective for 60 days.

The self-hosted wallet proposal, if passed, would require banks and money service businesses to submit reports, keep records, and verify the identity of users who make transactions to and from private cryptocurrency wallets.

The proposal has been widely criticized in the crypto industry. Square CEO Jack Dorsey, for example, said that counterparty name and address collection should not be required for cryptocurrency, as it isn’t required for cash today.

Some also pointed out that it would not be technically possible for some projects to comply because smart contracts do not contain name or address information.
