#2There is not a lot of difference if you just want basic functionality (like most bettors)
Do you want a desktop wallet, a phone app wallet, or an online web wallet?.Comment -

#5I use Mycelium and Edge and both can access from multi devices...I like funcationality of Mycelium better and its seems to sinc better and I have more fee control....I do suggest you have (2) different ones just to be safe as I have had issues where one has a lagging confirmation which slows down your sending ability.....Bitcoin Luke suggestion is safer but for newbie's that use as a transfer vessel any work fine just make sure you own the private keysComment -

#7If you use a web wallet, use blockchain wallet: https://login.blockchain.com/#/signup
Then enable 2FA, and secure your information.
I would personally only recommend using an offline hardware wallet to secure any type of real funds such as a Ledger or Trezor. This way it's air-gapped and you can also integrate it into the web wallet above. Oh look, they use a branded Ledger right here https://www.blockchain.com/lockbox
Whatever you do, if you use a wallet on your phone, only keep small amounts you are comfortable losing through being hacked etc.
Also, remember SIM card swapping is a risk, especially if someone gets your phone and is able to reset your accounts which are tied to your wallet. Think of it as your bank login, except if your bank account gets hacked, you are insured up to $250k via FDIC... with crypto, if it's your own wallet... you are insured for $0, unless you are doing online custody with cold storage etc.Comment -

#8Electrum is another great one to start out with, it's a simple-to-install desktop app but it allows you to adjust for cheaper fees (auto and manual) and add things like hardware protection down the road. And you can be sure the keys are saved to your hard drive, that's an extra step you'd have to do with a web wallet. And for both desktop and web wallets you also want to write down your seed phrase and stash it somewhere, just in case anything happens to go wrong - you'll still have access no matter what.
Don't worry about buying a hardware wallet or anything for now, until if/when you're keeping larger amounts on there - hopefully after a big score!Comment -

#11Thanks for the help. I really just need something I can wire funds into from my U.S. bank account and quick send off shore to open up account on a pph. Does that exist ? Last year i used my cc and got hit with international fee’s and raised interest rate which is totally unwarranted.Originally posted by wackedIf you use a web wallet, use blockchain wallet: https://login.blockchain.com/#/signup

#13Very good point that I forgot.Originally posted by raiders72001and it has RBF if a transaction is hung up.
One issue that I've sometimes noticed is that the default fee can be quite high so definitely recommended to do it manually, 70 sat/byte was the default when I used it a few nights ago yet I was able to get into the next block with only 3 sat/byte. There are a few other options for calculating fees in Preferences tab, but I haven't really tested those any.
Lastly, the thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning tools that help to estimate fees, like - https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/Comment -

#14I have a pph book that has been good to me for about 5 years. I would like to switch to bitcoin instead of meeting the guy. The pph support has recommended Uphold for withdrawals. They have an apple app and look good. Fees seem low but I do not know about anything better. Anyone know about this one ?Comment -
