In particular, can I do this type of sale in Coinbase.

I believe this known as a stop order but I am not a finance guy.

Also, could this type of sale, if possible, be used to buy other types of currency?

    Any assistance would be appreciated?

You can use limit orders to buy or sell at GDAX. There are 0 fees for these trades.

If you have a Coinbase account, then you also have an account on their trading exchange GDAX. That allows you to place stop loss orders.

And yes you can set it to sell BTC for ETH or some other alt coin instead of US$.

But honestly, IMHO, this is not a safe tactic with bitcoin. Say you set your sell point at 14k but the market has a sudden drop and you cant get filled until it hits bottom at 12k. Just keep an eye on the market and sell manually is much safer. Plus the market shifts around too much to even place an effective stop loss at a figure very close to the current trading point.
