#633One more for the mid-afternoon and then I'll be around for the early evening/late evening picks later ..
Corvallis Regional: Texas A&M -160
Both A&M and UTSA come off disappointing openers. UTSA had top seed Oregon State on the ropes before faltering late. A&M lost to a good UCSB squad and will be disappointed to be in this position after their ace Mengden only went 3.1 IP yesterday and was not sharp. They turn to Parker Ray who is transitioning out of the bullpen with stellar results. He shut out Vanderbilt in his last start in the SEC tournament, 8 IP and just three hits. A&M will be depending on something similar to give the offense some shots at UTSA's Hartson. Hartson is a solid starter , but not overpowering.Comment -

#638Eugene Regional: South Dakota State +3.5 [-170]
Juicy, but this Regional shapes up to be close it would appear in just about every game. Last night was no exception with SD State blowing a late lead, losing to Oregon by one run. Today's opponent, San Francisco, lost in extra innings to Rice by a single run. Both clubs put out good pitching talent today. SD State likely going with Stephen Bougher who had 5 CG this season with a 2.89 ERA. San Fran will put pro prospect Alex Balog on the hill. His ERA was a tad high at 3.69, but he's got great power pitches in his fastball and slider. He does give up hits though, more than one per inning pitched. The Jackrabbits will get base runners, so they must execute good small ball tactics and scratch out runs. Both pens are solid, so this looks tailor made to a close game if both starters bring their good stuff.

Cal Poly-UCLA hard to call. Poly has good pitching, but their pitchers do give up quite a few hits. UCLA had a productive game yesterday offensively, but is still a mediocre offensive team. Still, allowing base runners to get on usually is a sure fire way to allow a middling offense to get runs.Comment -

#640Parlay: Vanderbilt [-425] + N.C. State [-425] + LSU [440] = [-115]
Generally, prefer to stick to two teams/selections in parlays as my rule ... but all three of these shape up well for the favorite. Vandy sends out Option 1B in Tyler Beede against Illinois. Illini have struggled against quality pitching mostly and Vandy's lineup should put consistent pressure on Illinois' Kravetz whose ERA was just under 4.00. N.C. State sends out their ace, Carlos Rodon who has made up for a mostly subpar campaign with some dominant starts in the last six weeks. William & Mary is a team that can score, but I think Rodon limits them and then as with Vandy, you have a stacked lineup that should be able to put some runs on the board. LSU sends out Aaron Nola. They'll look for him to dominate and go deep after Eades scuffled again in the opener of the Regional. LSU skirted a possible injury concern with two of their fielders banged up in a collision yesterday, but both are cleared and in the LSU lineup that churned out 11 runs yesterday. Sam Houston State will need a stellar outing from lefty Caleb Smith. Smith has been tough to hit, but walks way too many batters which should spell trouble ultimately against the Bayou Bengals.

#642Starkville Regional: S.Alabama +200
Jaguars plan of starting lesser used Senior Rizzio worked to perfection in the win over Mercer. That saved ace Matt Bell to go against Louis Pollorena and Mississippi State today. Jags offense is lethal with six regs batting over .290. Pollorena is an experienced pitcher, but hittable with a 4.30 ERA and a .257 BAA. The Bulldogs are likely to use their pen more today, but that is a strength - maybe the strength of this team. This one seems a lot closer to 50-50 than the odds suggest. Offenses match each other in potentcy, but State played sloppy yesterday with some errors that they were fortunate did not hurt them more. If S.Alabama plays anything close to the level they brought against Mercer, they have a realistic shot to move into the Championship game and get some rest. Bulldogs won the regular season meeting, 6-4 with two runs in the 9th. Sloppy game there two with lots of errors.

#648Fullerton Regional: Fullerton St.-Arizona St. Under 11.5 [-140]
This # seems based more on potential than the match-up. ASU is a potent offense, but in looking at their season, a lot of the damage they inflicted was done in the friendlier confines of their home field. On the road, they packed less of a wallop. Fullerton is certainly a quality offense also, but as witnessed last night - good pitching can keep them in-check. The pitching match-up is excellent here. Two Freshman who have yet to lose a game. Ryan Kellogg for ASU who no-hit Oregon State on the road this season. Justin Garza who sports a 2.08 ERA. Both teams scored four in their openers in his Regional. ASU only got four hits off New Mexico starter Josh Walker and got three of their runs due to Lobos' miscues. Fullerton only had six hits and used a couple miscues from Columbia to generate an extra run. In general though, pitching dominated both games and I think it is more likely to do that tonight - at least for one side if not both to keep this one under the number.Comment -

Very fluid day on Sunday as elimination games take place, lines may come up late if other games are necessary. Getting some research done right now for some ..

#652Chapel Hill Regional: Florida Atlantic-Towson Over 12.5 [+110]
Towson has impressed here even in losing. The Tigers scored a 7-2 win over this same FAU squad to open the Regional and then lost 8-5 to North Carolina, scoring all five against a quality lefty in Kent Emmanuel. FAU for their part got their hitting cleats on and pounded out 14 runs against Canisius. Said it yesterday, this is a streaky team and they were white hot yesterday. Paul Beers goes for Towson. 4.88 ERA & .328 BAA. He's going to get hit some and the bullpen will be involved here, I think. The Towson pen is not very solid, so more runs should be found there. FAU goes with Jake Meiers. He has good stuff despite his 4.69 ERA and .302 BAA. He shut down a good NC State team in his best start of the year, but obviously he can be hit as well. The FAU pen is much more solid than Towson's, but depending on how the game goes - they could be looking to set up for an elimination game against Carolina, so they may use some of their lesser pitchers if this game gets out to a big lead. Either way, I would be surprised if there are not quite a few runs today.

#653Nashville Regional: Georgia Tech -140
Yellow Jackets & Illini face off again. Illinois won 6-4 on Friday. Tech rebounded behind Buck Farmer to eliminate East Tennessee State, while Illinois gave up a flurry of late runs to lose 10-4 to Vanderbilt. Both are sending out Freshman today. Jonathan King for Tech and Ryan Castellanos for Illinois. Both were late insertions into the weekend rotations for both teams. Castellanos has not really faced a lineup like he will see today, while King has faced the likes of North Carolina and Virginia Tech down the stretch. He skirted trouble well against Va.Tech in the ACC Tournament, giving up nine hits and three runs in a 3-2 loss. Georgia Tech packs more punch at the plate, while the bullpen edge for the middle innings if either starter falters - will got to Illinois. Tech though has good finishers in the pen if they are playing with the lead.Comment -

#654Corvallis Regional: Texas A&M +100
Pineda for the Aggies & Nesovic for UCSB. Both offenses do the small ball thing with UCSB ranking slightly better, but in a slightly weaker conference in the Big West. Pitching wise, I think Pineda ranks better here as he has faced the tougher competition down the stretch and generally kept his team in the game before turning it over to the bullpen. The Aggies pen rates better here and has pitched well the last month. Both teams have excellent closers with Jester for A&M and Hecht for UCSB. Middle relief could be the big key here in this one to bridge the gap to the closers. I think whichever team chases the other's starter first is going to be the likely winner here. A&M started quick yesterday and will look to do the same.

#655Will be looking for lines later when they set the next batch of games after these first elimination games. Expecting some decent options.
Futures plays - Rice in the Cat Bird's seat. Their pitching has been outstanding. Would love for SF to surprise Oregon this afternoon, but expected all along it would be Rice v. Oregon for the Regional. Still, two shots to cash +500 is dandy. No hedging until the 2nd game if it comes about.
Arkansas has Bryant this afternoon with Kansas State waiting for the winner. With Fant starting, Arkansas should hold Bryant down. Their offense needs to come through with 3-4 runs and that might do it. They have plenty of options for pitching if they advance, so still a shot to win the Regional even though not the ideal situation.
Starkville Regional ... Have to see who wins out of S.Alabama/C.Arkansas to take on Mississippi State tonight. Still think both can compete with MSU, but obviously again not an ideal set-up with the Bulldogs at 2-0.Comment -

#656Parlay: Florida State [-420] + S.Carolina [-350] = [-169]
Both teams will be looking to finish off their Regionals with wins to avoid a Monday return. FSU will go with Brandon Leibrandt against a Troy team that is going to be stretched thin pitching-wise after their miracle comeback against Alabama today. FSU has dominated with offense + pitching through two games and with a steady Leibrandt on the mound, the offense should be able to pick apart Troy's all hands on deck approach. S.Carolina gets another crack at the Liberty squad they pummeled 19-3 last night. Wynkoop likely starts for SC. He was solid and pitched seven shutout innings against LSU late in the year to show how good he can be.

#657Couldn't get the over. 6-5 final. Shame because there was plenty of opportunity for more runs than even that, but those are the breaks. A&M up 4-0 in the 4th. Ga.Tech down 2-0. Arkansas looks like they should be in line to get a shot at K-State, well ahead of Bryant. Oregon up on SF 2-1, but that one looks like it could be close the whole way. John Simms should be going for Rice and that again should give them a marvelous shot at winning that Regional.
Will see what else comes up as more games get completed and more late games are set.

FAU is going to have to search for pitching potentially, but they will start one of two Freshman - Kyle Miller or Brandon Rhodes. Rhodes might make sense as a lefty against some of the Heels lefties. UNC tosses out Hobbs Johnson, another stud. FAU has the offense to keep in this one. Their bats are hot and will need to be as UNC will put up more runs against whomever the Owls roll out. I still think with UNC not quite firing on all cylinders the last week or so that FAU can compete here, especially if they can strike early for some runs.

Pitching edge to the Hogs. Tyler Wright is on the mound with a 0.00 ERA. Yes, 0.00 ERA in 18.1 IP this season. Certainly K-State presents a challenge with a solid offense, but they will need their offense to produce as Blake McFadden starts for them. McFadden has not been trusted to start in quite some time with a 4.04 ERA, .260 BAA. Bullpen edge to Arkansas if needed and their bats awoke against Bryant. If they can stay hot and get off to a good start, good chance they get a rematch on Monday.Comment -

#664Los Angeles Regional: San Diego-UCLA Over 10.5 [+120]
Sunday starter Grant Watson goes for UCLA. 3.50 ERA & .288 BAA. He goes against a potent San Diego offense that just tallied eight on Cal Poly to avoid elimination. Kris Bryant is the name to know. Led D1 in home runs and paces this solid lineup. UCLA has found some timely hitting through two games in this Regional with multi-run innings highlighting their advancement. San Diego may go to Michael Wagner to start. Outside of their closer, San Diego's pen can be had - so if the Bruins can get the starter out early, the Bruins have the potential to add to the tally. Toreros can put up runs in this one, I think.
