Since, I have been on a major hot streak of late, I figure that I'll post my plays here and track them as we wrap up the MLB season.
Today (8/16) I really like two plays in particular.
Cleveland (+105) over Chicago.
Ubaldo Jimenez vs. Gavin Floyd
There is a ton of value in this pick, I am surprised that the Indians aren't slightly favored in this one. This matchup really comes down to the two starting pitchers. After a rough start in Texas, Ubaldo seems to be settling into the American League just fine, which isn't surprising, his stuff plays well anywhere. Over his last two turns he has struck out a batter an inning (13K/13 IP) and posted a more than respectable ratios of 3.46/1.00. Gavin Floyd is opposing Jimenez and is a notoriously streaky pitcher who is not pitching particularly well right now. Cleveland's offense has been boosted with the return of Shin-Soo Choo.
ChC (-135) over Houston.
Ryan Dempster v. Brett Myers
Again, starting pitching. Dempster has been outstanding for the last two months and over his last two turns he has picked up two wins striking out 11 in 13 IP with tidy ratios of 2.08/1.15. In contrast, Brett Myers is winless in his last two turns with ratios of 5.27/1.54. He has been significantly worse pitching at home this year. It goes without saying that the Houston lineup is dismal and is likely the worst offensive team in the league as presently constructed.
