    Lee's agent
Cliff Lee's agent is a funny guy. Just playing the media with comments like this, and the media is always more than happy to lap up anything they can speculate and pump more rumors into the story.

Darek Braunecker, Cliff Lee's agent, said Wednesday that one club is no longer involved in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Darek Braunecker, Cliff Lee's agent, said Wednesday that one club is no longer involved in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. He wouldn't say which team had been eliminated.

I hope he stays with Texas actually. I think it's the best fit for both him and the team.

I hope he doesn't try to turn this into a Lebron or Favre type of debacle, however.

Can't really argue with that, but with the general lunacy that seems to reign in baseball front offices, it can't be too difficult to land a few extra million.

I think the salaries are spiraling out of control. Baseball needs a salary cap. You will never see a team like the Pirates or Royals win a championship ever again. This is sad because the people in rural America deserve better.

                WB, I agree...

I wouldn't dream of giving Lee 6-7 year deal for all the reasons we've discussed...but I don't doubt he will get it...

Lee will be washed up in 3 years, he belongs in Texas

He might not take the pressure in NY

I'm not sure why anyone would want to play in NY right now. Their lineup is getting old and washed up. Does A-Rod care now that he got his ring? Texeira looks like his best days are behind him. Jeter doesn't have the range that he once had and he's probably only a .280 hitter from here on out. You can't expect that Cano will have the year that he had last year. And their pitching is a mess. No bullpen. When does Riveira start faltering? The guy is 41? 42?

Lee's best chance at a ring is with a young Rangers team.

If the Yankees' offer isn't for a minimum of 25% more than Texas', Lee loses money playing in New York.

No way. He still has many good years ahead. more than 5 years at least. He would welcome the pressure of pitching in the Bronx. I am sure the Yankees are doing as much as they can possible to grab Cliff Lee. It wouldn't suprise me though if he stays in Texas.

That is why there is minor league baseball.

You have a team right down the street dont you? Pavy has Minor league hockey and baseball 10 minutes away. He has NFL, NHL, MLB 30minutes away(1.5hrs with traffic). Then they need to eliminate the small teams from the MLB. What's the purpose of having a team in the majors with a 30 million payroll? Contract and have two leagues. A MLB for the teams with payrolls in excess of 150 million and a minor league with teams less than that. Why does the Pirates and Royals fans have to see their teams lose 100 games a year? This creates a loser's mentality and kids who watch these teams year after year while growing up become also losers in life.

They go to the games to cheer for visiting teams.

Think about it. Tickets to see the Yanks and Red Sox and Dodgers, Phillies and other large teams are so much cheaper in those rural areas. $10 cheap seat in Pitts would cost $65-75 in Philly. $25 3rd level on 1st base side in KC would cost $250 in NYC. They get rewarded for having bad teams.

The reason why MLB is losing fans every year to football it's because there is really no competition. The same teams go to the playoffs every year and the ones who do are always the ones with the biggest payrolls. In NFL each team is given the same amount of weapons to go to the playoffs and that is why you see all teams have a shot at the playoffs every year. This is why NFL is so popular. Because each year all teams have a chance where in MLB only the elite 6-8 teams have a chance.

Its just simple economics, (Players Demands = Owners Willingness to Pay). And as far as the losing team with a 30mil payroll, econ will take care of them soon enough. These losing teams will either decide to pay more(assuming there is a demand from the fan base), OR, they will fall(close the doors, move, what have you). These people in rural America are in the same game of economics as the teams. I dont want to sound calloused, but if they want a better team, they might need to move themselves.
