Big Time Series in the Mile High.
San Francisco Giants +107 @ Colorado Rockies -127; Total: 8.

A huge series begins tonight at Coors Field, as the San Francisco Giants (86-67) arrive with a 3.5 game lead in the West over the host club, Colorado Rockies (82-70). The Rockies have a great opportunity here starting tonight, and a sweep is for what the expectedly hot Rockies in September will be searching.
Tonight they turn to their home crowd, the red hot Troy Tulowitzki (35 rbi this month) and Jhoulys Chacin (Rockies are 11-9 in his starts) to get this must-win game one.
The Giants send out Tim Lincecum (19-12, 3.60), who after a dreadful, winless month of August has come back to normal a bit here as we head down the stretch. He did take the L in his last outing, a 2-1 loss at home against the Brewers, only lasting 5 innings and allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits. However, he had the decision in the three September starts leading up to that shortened outing with lack of support, all wins against NL West rivals, combining to pitch 21.2 innings and allowing only 5 earned, while striking out 29. In his 4 starts in this final month, “Big Time Timmy Jims” is rocking a 2.40 ERA and brings his hot streak to the hitter-friendly Coors Field. Lincecum also won his last start against the Rockies, going 8 and giving up just 5 hits and one earned and has a lifetime 3.55 ERA against his rivals from the Rockies. He absolutely will have to give his best today, as the Rocks are notorious for late season runs, and it doesn’t get any later than this.
This is a must win for the Rockies, who look to Jhoulys Chacin (9-9, 3.30), who turns just 23 this coming January. Here is a huge spot for the rook, who will look to solidify his place in the Rockies rotation for years to come. Here is the place to get it going. He faces one of the league’s premier pitchers in the opener of the biggest series of the season for Rockies. The Rockies have won his last three starts and three of four in September; but the loss was the 12-11 miracle comeback for the Phillies in the makeup game on that Thursday, in which the youngster went 5.1 and allowed one earned run on 5 hits. So he clearly gave his team enough to get the win in a game the Rockies scored 11 runs. In September, Chacin has allowed a total 3 earned in 23.1 innings. He is smokin’ hot to say the least.
I love the Giants in this spot today, as they have the pitching advantage when it comes to experience, and I still think the Giants are the better team. With +107 money, it seems to be the most sensible bet. With that being said, can you really go against the Rockies at home, in September, in a must win, behind the recent numbers of Chacin?! Probably shouldn’t.
The safest of plays in this one today may very well be the under. Both pitchers have been dominant of late, and the Giants are coming off a plane ride and a 13 run explosion at Wrigley. In my experience, I find that a lot of teams follow up and explosion with an egg. Chacin won’t make that any easier.
I really like that under 8.
Best of luck today in whatever you play.
