I'm liking the Reds with Volquez pitching at -175 today and the Indians at -110 with Carmona.
Both pitchers have been wildly inconsistent. However, their last starts were very encouraging. Volquez went down to the minors to get a minor mechanical error corrected. His arm slot on his changeup (his #1 pitch) was different from his fastball. This resulted in poor control and a lack of swings and misses from the opponent. His last start was his first since returning from the minors and was outstanding. The opposing pitcher for Arizona, Lopez, has been consistent. Consistently bad!!!! He routinely has a 5.50 ERA for the year and about the same in his last 3. So if Volquez can keep the D-Backs under 5 the Reds will be fine. Although I must say that the Reds closer Cordero has been super shaky lately so that is not good.
Regarding Carmona I just think that the Indians are young and playing loose down the stretch. The Angels are in a spot they are not used to and getting a toss up line with the Indians is the cause for the lean on this one.
