MLB Betting Odds: Jimenez and Rockies Battle Marlins
Ubaldo Jimenez gets back to the business of trying to make hitters look foolish tonight in Miami when the Rockies and Florida Marlins begin a four-game series.
A couple of baseball clubs coming off 1-0 wins on Sunday open a four-game set in Miami on Monday when the Colorado Rockies pay the Marlins a visit.
NL All-Star starter Ubaldo Jimenez (16-2, 2.20) will look to pick up where he left off in his last outing before the break when he takes on Anibal Sanchez (8-9, 3.66) in the 7:10 p.m. ET contest. As you'd expect, Jimenez is favored with the first MLB odds listing a 145-150 line on the Rocks. The total came out at seven with the 'over' costing an extra 10 cents or so.

Colorado broke a three-game losing streak with its 1-0 win in Cincinnati. Chris Iannetta's solo blast in the sixth was the only run in the game between the two top-scoring lineups in the NL. Aaron Cook and the Rockies were 130 underdogs to Travis Wood and the Reds.
The final score left Colorado 2-1 'under' to begin the second half after closing the first half on an 11-3 'over' stretch.
Florida's 1-0 win versus the Nats marked the second consecutive shutout for the Marlins staff. Rookie Alex Sanabia earned his first MLB win with 5 1/3 scoreless innings to get it going for the Fish who carried 135 chalk into the game. Florida has now played six straight 'unders.'
It's the second meeting between the two 1993 expansion clubs this season, with the Rockies taking two of three at home in Denver back in late April. Two of those three stayed below the closing total. Neither Jimenez nor Sanchez worked in that series.
The last time the two squads met in Miami was Aug. 2009 with Florida taking two of three and all three games going 'over.' Again, neither Jimenez nor Sanchez saw any action.
In fact, Jimenez has only faced the Marlins two times in his career. His only appearance in Miami was a good one, seven scoreless, two-hit frames with 10 strikeouts in Aug. 2008.
After his brilliant beginning to the campaign, Jimenez hit a rough three-start patch from late June to early July when he was charged with 17 earned runs in 17 2/3 innings. But in his last outing before the break, the right-hander seemed to get back on track with an eight-inning, one-run performance in a 4-2 win over the Cardinals.
He added two scoreless innings against the AL in Tuesday night's Midsummer Classic.
Sanchez will be making the first start of his career against Colorado and pitching for the first time since July 8. The Marlins are 4-4 in his eight home starts this season, with Sanchez allowing just one homer in 50 1.3 innings at Sun Life Stadium where he has a 2.50 ERA.
Though he's been hit pretty hard in recent starts – 16 hits, 9 ER in last 10 innings – keeping the ball in the park is one thing Sanchez has done well all season. The Venezuelan righty has served up just four in over 103 innings, and none since Matt Wieters took him deep at Camden Yards in an interleague contest on June 22.
A 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the day increases to 50 percent in the evening for the Miami area. Muggy temps in the mid-to-upper 80s are forecast for game time with east winds around 15 mph (straight in from center).
The series continues Tuesday with a pair of left-hander scheduled to hurl. Jeff Francis (6-5, 5.14) should get the ball for Colorado with Florida sending Nate Robertson (8-9, 5.10) to the hill.
NOTE: The W-L records shown for starting pitchers are their team's W-L mark when they started games in the 2010 season.
