    -1 RL Calculator Spreadsheet
How do i bet -1 RL?! My sportsbook only has -1.5!

This subject keeps coming up again and again. You can actually do this at ANY sportsbook using the attached Excel spreadsheet. The idea is to place complementary bets on the ML and the -1.5 RL to create the same result as a -1 RL bet would. Using this method reduces your risked amount while allowing for the possibility of a push if the favorite only wins by 1 run.

Here's how the spreadsheet works. The gray boxes in the top section are where you input the appropriate ML and RL odds for the team you're betting on. Below that is where the -1 RL odds are displayed (for informational purposes only, you don't use that number for anything). In the bottom section you enter your bet amount in the appropriate box. How your wager is split between ML and -1.5 RL is then displayed.

The amount you will enter into your sportsbook will be the "To Win" amount for the ML wager.

For the -1.5 RL, if the odds for it are +101 or better, you use the "Risk" amount for that wager. This should be an identical amount to the ML wager. If the odds are -101 or worse, you use the "To Win" value instead. This will be a different number than the ML wager. +100 yields identical Risk and To Win amounts, naturally.

The end result should be an equal To Win amount for the ML wager and Risk amount for the -1.5 RL, double-check this before you finalize your wager. Therefore if the ML bet wins and RL bet loses, the net result is 0. A push just like a real -1 RL. Sometimes it's off by $0.01 which is the result of rounding, this is perfectly acceptable.

I did not create this spreadsheet and I'm not taking credit for it. I don't know who did but big kudos to that person! I just want more people to be aware of and be using this to help save themselves money betting heavy favorites. If you've ever lost a -1.5 RL bet by half a point then this spreadsheet is for you.

I've tried to be a thorough as possible here, but if there are questions please post and I'll try to answer them.

Thank you very much, Cosmo. This is a useful spreadsheet. It works for the NHL too.

Thanks for posting this. I just played around with it and unless I'm mistaking this could be a valuable tool to use to pick dogs as well. Whereas if the dog wins of course you're all good but if they loose then they would have to loose by two or more otherwise its a push. That angle is probably a lot more helpful in hockey than baseball because of the abundance of games decided by one point and all of the dogs that win.
