I love Fenway myself, need to get back up there. Still, my favorite of the old parks remains old Tiger Stadium. I think Ernie Harwell tricked me into falling in love with that stadium

Haven't been to the new park in DC. Really enjoyed Camden the one long weekend I was there. Wouldn't you know it, but my only visit was at the end of July 2000 when Ripken was on the DL Great weekend series with the Tribe, Friday's game was washed out in the bottom of 4th, made up the next day and overnight both teams had made some major trades at the deadline so we saw a lot of new faces in the Saturday doubleheader. The whole area around Camden Yards is nice, good bars and a short walk to the wharf area for great food.
I still urge everyone to make the effort to go to PNC Park in Pittsburgh. In my opinion, the best of the 'new parks' (circa: opened early 1990s and after). It is an incredible, intimate park with a great view. Pittsburgh overall is a great city to visit for sporting events, cheap place to drink, can stay downtown in reasonably priced hotels and walk/cheap cab to PNC and Heinz. The people in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas are very genuine blue-collar types, find a Punxsutawney crowd tailgating before a Pitt game if you can.

Have you been to AT&T Park yet Willie? I never been to PNC but I would probably agree with you on the cheaper places to drink and the genuine blue collar types that Pittsburgh has.The problem with AT&T is you will see none of that. It is very expensive and the people do have their nose in the air, especially if you are in club seating.
However, ballpark wise there is no more of a beautfiul park than AT&T, especially in the month of September which is one of San Francisco's warmest months (Indian summer). Seating here is incredible, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. If you're not a Barry Bonds or a Giants hater, then you will also enjoy the monuments around the park. They really do tip their cap to all the legends in Giants history.
In regards to the wind in San Francisco, the wind is nothing compared to Candlestick. You will not see pitchers getting blown off the mound during their windup. They placed the park in a position where the wind doesn't effect the game as much as it did at Candlestick. The best thing about AT&T park is that it is neither a hitters or pitchers ballpark. I believe that it is neutral. Good ball is always being played here in my opinion.
If you do come to AT&T Willie I'd suggest you try and get some tickets with Club Access. There's alot of things I'd think you'd appreciate if you were there. Like I said it's not good for people who dislike Barry Bonds because they have his actual bat that he broke the record with and you can actually grip it. Alot of great stuff for the nostalgic baseball fan.

I would have to say that the party scene/bars outside of Wrigley are the most fun of any park I have been to. As far as the inside of Wrigley goes I would say the bleachers are a great atmosphere for those who want to go to party and have a baseball game break out. The rest of the stadium is very outdated and the concourse is incredibly small and cramped.
Miller Park is a great place to tailgate before/after a game! The park itself is a cozy/modern place to watch a game. The price is very reasonable and since the stadium only seat 40Kish you stand a great chance to have a good view.
Tropicana is in my opinion the worst place to watch a game. The park has an empty uninviting feel to it that I am sure anyone who has been there can agree with. Combining that feeling with 10K - 15K in fans creates a very strange place to watch a baseball game. Words cannot describe the strange ambiance that the park brings.

Haven't been there, Hen, and sorry for delay responding. Went to Candlestick a few times, including its final season (1999). Was there when Giants played Braves and Bonds got his 2,000th hit (think it was off Glavine, coulda' been whoever relieved Glavine that game). I'm not a Bonds hater, not a big fan either, but just don't take any joy chastising the players in the 80s, 90s who were beefing up pharmaceutically.

I know, everyone who has been has said it was a great experience. We were so close to going in late-September 1995 (which turned out to be a great Astros-Cubs series). A four-letter word got in the way: wife.
Here's the 19 parks past and present I've been to:
Astrodome
Colt Stadium
Enron/Minute Maid/Arthur Andersen Memorial
Arlington Stadium
Ballpark in Arlington/The House That Dubya Built
Old Yankee Stadium (pre-1974 and later)
Shea Stadium
Tiger Stadium (still my favorite)
Fenway Park
Kauffman Stadium
Angel Stadium (only trip in 1964)
Oriole Park/Camden Yards
Busch Stadium II
Candlestick Park
Jack Murphy Stadium
PNC Park
Coors Field
Sun Life Stadium/Joe Robbie
Dodger Stadium

Fight the power
I believe we need to fight the power when it comes to baseball. Ball parks are to small. If they were bigger than we could have more people come watch them. Then with more fans at the game the MLB could make more money. So I say fight the power for BASEBALL!!!

First, you need to remember when there were parks like the Polo Grounds that were a right-handed pull-hitter's delight in the past, 270-280 feet down LF line in the lower deck. The upper deck was actually closer. Shibe Park also had a very short LF fence for a while in the 1920s, 1930s. Old Sportsman's Park had a very short RF wall.
And just moving fences back won't necessarily retard offense. If you go into every stadium right now and move the fences back 10' all the way around, you'd better have some guys who can cover all of that extra ground in your outfield. You basically will have an extra 7,000-8,000 square feet of outfield.
Home runs were up in the early days of Coors Field (pre-humidor), but the fact that the outfielders had so much extra ground to cover led to a ton of runs in that park.

Thanks guys, there seems to be a lot of great info in this thread. But, as a new capper, I wonder if it's really affective (and pardon me if I'm wrong and inexperience is getting in the way). But if wind had a large or even small impact on the run total, wouldn't the books wait till right before the game to set the line. They do this in Wrigley because the wind is a huge factor, but why wouldn't they do it for all ballparks?

They hang the money line like they do for the rest of the parks, it's only the total that comes out late for games at Wrigley. One reason is the unpredictable nature of the wind right there, can shift at a moment's notice without any warning unlike other locales where if the weatherman says the wind is out of the west at 8-10 mph, then that's what it's going to be for an extended period of time.

Willie, on your "bucket list" has to Wrigley Field. Hands down the best park and the best action outside the park. What else could you ask for. Oh, did I say you can take public transportation to it and not worry about driving after the game. Now, only if the Cubs didn't always choke.....

wind can be a difference in the came if pitchers keep the ball up in the zone and get a lot of foul balls

Senator7, you asked:
How about a list that classifies whether a park is a pitcher's park or a hitter's park. Anyone got any data or a list on that?
Being WA info, this is already factored into the line.
What I like better is stuff like day games; knowing the shadow effects. IE: a 4pm start out west, home plate is in the shade while the mound is sunny. My personal opinion, but I think that would yield more winners.
Good thread.
