1. They could have used a K-9 to subdue him.
2. They could have used a taser.
3. They could have used a tranquilizer shot.
4. They could have used rubber bullets or beanie bags.
5. They could have shot his arm to drop the box cutter.
6. They coud have shot his leg.
7. They could all 9 of them lunch at him and gang tackle him.
But no shooting him 40 times was the only way to resolve the situation!
