Does anyone bet there? Any idea why Bellucci-Brown would be a push/cancel? Brown retired at 6-4, 4-5

#2I was under the impression that, once the first set is completed, all ML bets have action (regardless of the reason/nature of the possible retirement). Am I wrong?Comment

#3It depends on the bookie. I specifically recommended placing mine on unibet and they do what you say, so I have to count it as a loss. bet365 don't do that.Comment

#5May I ask why? Pinnacle (and I think 5dimes and most others) would push/cancel every bet that is spread or total, props etc.Originally posted by jtolerShould be marked as cancelled.

Money Line should get action the moment first set is completed and official. This is the standard. Am I wrong?Comment

#8Bovada cancelled my win on Opelka after Stakhovsky retired midway through the second set Tuesday night in Los Cabos. Unlike most Books, that count a match official after one set, Bovada and a couple of others require two sets. That really sucks.

Books really should be consistent on this. You would think Bovada would want more action and more juice by counting more matches as good if they just goes one set?

I suppose I can see where it would suck if your pick was winning after one set and had to retire and you lost, but it also sucks if your pick is winning after one set and the other guy retires and you don't get the win, like what happened to me tonight with Opelka at Bovada.Comment

#10Nah. It gives bettors an advantage that there is a range of rules for this.Originally posted by barnstormBooks really should be consistent on this. You would think Bovada would want more action and more juice by counting more matches as good if they just goes one set?

If betting on a player with an injury cloud you can pick a book where match must complete.

If betting against that player you want a 1 ball or 1 set book.

Books that choose 2 sets complete just want to avoid being cherry picked to bet against injured players like 1 ball books and maybe 1 set books do, but still think like you do and want to settle as many bets as possible. Books that use entire match just want to avoid the variability and not be subject to inside info problems with player health..Comment

#11I see your point. But what % of retirements are from players with an injury cloud vs injuries that just occur during the match or from players who just bail when they are down?Originally posted by OptionalNah. It gives bettors an advantage that there is a range of rules for this.

Anyway, I see from a study that:
Retirements are on the rise in tennis.
Retirements are more often than not by the higher ranked player.
Retirements happen more often on hard and clay court surfaces.
Retirements happen more often in outdoor venues than indoor.
Retirements happen more often in lesser important tournaments.
Retirements happen more often in best of 5 set tournaments.
Retirements happen more often in the latter part of the season - October - December.
There is some increased suspicion that some retirements are gambling related.

Roger Federer is the only active "top" tennis player never to have retired from a single match in his whole career! But now that he is getting up there in age, don't bet on that!

#12Ok just a tough break. I had no idea one or the other would get injured (and I doubt any sharp in the world could have foreseen that freak injury by Brown). Lots of good info here. Thanks guys!Comment
