Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are the two sides in the Premier League top six with the worst form over the last five matches in the competition. Both sides suffered humbling defeats to their local rivals in their respective derbies last weekend. Thursday’s match can have huge significance on the outcome of each team’s season. Here is our best Manchester City-Tottenham pick for Thursday’s Premier League clash. 

Manchester City fell eight points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League title race at the weekend. They’ve dropped five points in their last three matches, but can keep the pressure on the Gunners with a win over Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s Spurs have faltered too, taking three points from a possible nine in their last trio of league matches. They’re struggling to keep pace with the top four and may have to rely on winning the Champions League to qualify for next season’s European tournament. 

Despite poor form from both teams, we will be treated to a showdown between the competition’s two leading goal scorers in Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Tottenham is the huge underdog for this game. Of all our major sportsbooks, FanDuel and Caesars have the Spurs at +700 on the moneyline. You can grab them at +650 at DraftKings and PointsBet, while BetMGM is offering +675. The best value for City to win outright is -270 via BetMGM and DraftKings. FanDuel has Manchester City as low as -290 on the moneyline. 

If you fancy one of the two main strikers to score, Erling Haaland is -175 at FanDuel. That is an excellent value compared to other books. PointsBet has the next best value at -210, while he is as low as -250 at Caesars. Harry Kane has scored three goals in the four league games since the World Cup break. He’s +280 as an anytime scorer at FanDuel, which is the best price for this play. DraftKings has him at +210.

Manchester City-Tottenham both teams to score, Man City win (+175 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐

Spurs have scored nine goals in their last three Premier League road games, although they haven’t had back-to-back away wins since April last year. Pep Guardiola’s side will be reeling after their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last Saturday. His side hasn’t lost consecutive matches in the league since 2018. They have, however, lost their last two matches in all competitions. Haaland has failed to score in his last two league matches. It’s his longest run of Premier League games without a goal. 

Tottenham beat City in both league matches last season. No side has ever beaten a Pep Guardiola team in three consecutive league matches. The reigning champions have scored six goals in their four matches in the competition since the restart. There are goals from both sides in this match, which is why I’m backing both teams to score. City are the better team across the pitch, they know how to win and have the quality to overcome strong opposition to keep the pressure on Arsenal. 

I’m reluctant to give this play four stars because of Spurs’ recent form over City. However, I am confident that Guardiola finds a way to win this one.

City’s moneyline odds are too low to make a play. Both sides can score, which is what makes this play so appealing. Manchester City need to win to keep their title ambitions alive. They’ve proven to be vulnerable at the back, so expect Spurs to find the net. I think City wins, though. 

The odds do vary, so make sure you shop for this play. At +175, Caesars has the best value on offer, especially compared to the low price DraftKings is offering.
