🏒 Sabres vs. Penguins Prediction & Odds: NHL Picks Today (March 5)

I'm backing Buffalo and the Under while honing in on a Rasmus Dahlin player prop for tonight's game in Pittsburgh.

The Buffalo Sabres are the league's best hockey team since the start of December. Imagine the looks of bemusement you'd receive if you said that aloud at a party before the season started.

I'm backing Lindy Ruff's team, the marginal -113 moneyline betting favorite, to extend their winning streak to five games in my Sabres vs. Penguins prediction for tonight's game at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh (7 p.m. ET, ESPN). For the player prop, I'm featuring one of the team's primary offensive catalysts.

💰 Sabres vs. Penguins prediction & best bet

Sabres ML (-113)

The Sabres are the talk of the NHL town and for good reason. They're on a four-game winning streak and have won 10 of the previous 14.

Somebody notify Believe It or Not. With a 25-5-2 record, the Sabres are the league's best team since Dec. 9. The Penguins are playing well, but I feel a slide is forthcoming, with the team finally feeling the impact of losing Captain Canada.

They have lost two of the last three and four of the previous seven. FanDuel offers the best price of the best sports betting sites, and I'd play the bet to -120.

Score prediction: Sabres 3, Penguins 2

🔥 Best Sabres vs. Penguins player prop bet

Rasmus Dahlin Over 0.5 assists (-130)

Dahlin has three assists in the previous three head-to-heads and is scorching hot otherwise, notching a helper in eight of the last 10 games.

He had two helpers in each of the previous two games, scoring an assist on four of the Sabres' last nine goals. He's either scored or assisted on 56% of the team's goals against Tampa Bay and Vegas.

I've also featured him in my NHL player props today

💡 Buffalo Sabres anytime goal-scorer prop

If you'd rather back somebody to score a goal, I'd go with Tage Thompson, who has five goals in the previous seven games and scored the last time he faced Pittsburgh. FanDuel offers +140 for the big center to light the lamp.

📊 Live Sabres vs. Penguins odds

The betting lines haven't moved since opening. Both teams are playing well, but Buffalo is on a 4-game winning streak, and Pittsburgh lost two of the previous three. They could now be feeling the impact of not having the injured Sidney Crosby.

💡 How I'm betting Sabres vs. Penguins

Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.

I presume Arturs Silovs, who has been playing like a man possessed, will get the nod in goal for the Pens. He has allowed more than two goals in one of the previous six games. Hence the Under.

Buffalo is playing too well to bet against it, which is why Lindy Ruff's team gets a full unit. Dahlin, meanwhile, has been one of the primary offensive sparks in the Sabres' recent success. Each unit is $10.
