Oilers vs. Sharks Prediction & Odds: NHL Picks Today (April 8)

My Oilers vs. Sharks prediction analyzes the chances of a somewhat low-scoring game, while providing a Macklin Celebrini player prop.

The San Jose Sharks face a must-win situation at home tonight when they face the Edmonton Oilers.

Despite winning four of the previous five, the Sharks are the betting underdog against an Edmonton team that will not have Leon Draisaitl and, more than likely, Zach Hyman. Considering those key absences, I'm backing the Under in my Oilers vs. Sharks prediction.

The Oilers have a motivated Connor McDavid, though, who almost dragged them to a victory in Utah last night. Speaking of motivated, I expect Macklin Celebrini to resemble a shark in blood-infested waters, ravenous and ready to hunt. The game from SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., starts at 10 p.m. ET (TNT).

💰 Oilers vs. Sharks prediction & best bet

Under 6.5 (-105)

I committed a cardinal sin in last night's Oilers vs. Mammoth prediction, giving Tristan Jarry the benefit of the doubt. The Oilers will start Connor Ingram tonight, who is 3-1 in the second game of a back-to-back.

Their last three games with him in goal had six goals or fewer. The only way Edmonton has a chance, particularly without Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, is to play a responsible defensive game.

While that's not exactly their forte, the collective will prove it can protect their netminder in a pinch. And the Under cashed in two of the previous three Sharks' games.

Score prediction: Oilers 3, Sharks 2

🔥 Best Oilers vs. Sharks player prop bet

Macklin Celebrini Over 3.5 shots (-115)

Still with a shot at winning MVP, according to the Hart Trophy odds, Celebrini will be amped for this pivotal contest. I expect him to pile the pressure on an Oilers team playing their second game in 24 hours.

The 19-year-old is almost impossible to handle with full energy reserves, and there's no way every Edmonton player is feeling fresh after a physically charged game in Utah last night.

He hit the Over on this total in four of the previous six games, attempting 7.2 shots per contest during that stretch. Of the best sports betting sites, BetMGM offers the best price. I also backed Celebrini in my NHL player props

📊 Live Oilers vs. Sharks odds

The Oilers opened as the -130 betting favorite, but those odds have since lengthened after they lost in Utah on Tuesday. They are still the betting favourite, but only 38% of the betting public have backed them to win in San Jose.

💡 How I'm betting Oilers vs. Sharks

Follow all of our NHL analysis and expert predictions this season.

After watching the Oilers' debacle in Utah, I don't have much confidence in my moneyline or Over/Under picks. But I'm banking on the game having a different feel with Ingram in goal, who has been pretty good recently.

He also has a good track record, albeit over a small sample size, of playing well on the second night of a back-to-back since joining Edmonton. What I am confident in, though, is my Celebrini player prop. The megastar-in-the-making will be full of beans, and he should take full advantage of a tired, depleted Oilers forward group.

That's why I'm investing 2 units in that wager and only half units on the other two.
